MID-PLACEMENT REVIEW- GUIDANCE FOR STUDENTS Professionalism in teaching is characterised by the potential to evaluate practice, discuss your perceptions

with colleagues and identify an action plan for development. This activity will be repeated during your course with supervising teachers and course tutors and will continue into the Induction Year during which frequent discussions of this type will occur. It is essential that you and those involved in supporting you on School Experience should discuss your progress at regular intervals throughout your placement. The Mid-Placement Review is therefore an important step in enabling you to identify areas of strength and to negotiate development needs before School Reports are prepared. This task requires you to take the initiative and to do the following: Arrange a meeting with your supervising teacher (PT or other member of staff who is likely to be involved in assessing your performance). The discussion should last 20 minutes and certainly no more than half an hour. In advance of the meeting, provide a provisional agenda which includes:your analysis of strengths & areas for development, based on self-evaluation and target-setting tasks in your Portfolio all other subject placement issues which youd like to discuss copies of Mid-Placement Review, parts 1 and 3 completed by you as basis for discussion. After the meeting, complete the report proforma. This should provide a clear indication of the priorities for the remainder of the placement which the supervising teacher and you have agreed are fair and realistic i.e. what can you do and how can the Department help you?

There is no question of grading at this stage. It is a formative exercise. Any additional comments should be written in the space provided and signed by the person making them. Ensure the form is signed by you and by the teacher involved. Make 2 copies one for PT and one for inclusion in your Portfolio
