Great Leap Forward


1958 - 1961 An economic and social campaign of the Communist Party of China (CPC), led by Mao Zedong, reflected in planning decisions, which aimed to use Chinas vast population to rapidly transform the country from an agrarian economy into a modern communist society through the process of rapid industrialization and collectivization.

Cuban Missile Crisis


1962 The Soviet Union sent missiles to Cuba in order to protect them in case of attack by the US. The US discovered these missiles, but rather than fight, they made an agreement to not invade Cuba if the Soviet Union removed the missiles.

1968 Uprisings
1968 A worldwide escalation of social conflicts, predominantly characterized by popular rebellions against military, capitalist, and bureaucratic elites, who retorted with an escalation of political repression.

Dissolution of the Soviet Union


1991 The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) was formally dissolved on 26 December 1991 by declaration 142-H of the Soviet of the Republics of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union. This declaration acknowledged the independence of the twelve republics of the Soviet Union that subsequently created the Commonwealth of Independent States.
