head and body : This section of the pattern starts at the bottom of the body and ends at the tip of the head. CO 3 sts and distribute between 3 dpns, leaving a tail long enough to weave in. Join in round, being careful not to twist stitches. Use stitch marker to mark beginning of row if you'd like. Kfb all sts. (6 sts) Kfb all sts. (12 sts) *K1, kfb*. (18 sts) K 1 row. *K2, kfb*. If you wish, cut a 12" (31cm) length of yarn and weave in and out of the stitches all around the neck area, then pull tight. This will make the neck smaller.

snout : CO 27 sts, leaving a 12" (31 cm) tail, and divide between 3 dpns. Join in the round, being careful not to twist stitches. You may put stitch marker at beginning of row if you'd like. K 1 row. *Ssk, k7* 3 times. (24 sts) K 1 row. *ssk, k4, k2tog* 3 times. (18 sts) K 1 row. *Ssk, k2, k2tog* 3 times. (12 sts) K2tog all sts. (6 sts) Cut yarn and pull through remaining sts. Use the CO edge tail to graft snout to head. Determine desired placement on face (the smaller half of the head and body piece), then using mattress stitch, sew the CO edge of the snout to the face, leaving a small hole to be used to insert stuffing. Use a little bit of polyfill to stuff the nose, then mattress stitch the remaining part to the face. ears (make 2) : CO 18 sts leaving a 12" (31cm) tail and divide between 2 dpns. Join in round and place stitch marker at the beginning of the row if desired. K 3 rows. *SSk, k5, k2tog* twice. (14 sts) *Ssk, k3, k2tog* twice. (10 sts) K2tog all sts. (5 sts) Cut yarn and pull through remaining sts. Fold the ear in half, with the decreases on either side of the ear. Using CO edge tail, sew both halves of the CO edge to each other. Do not stuff. Then, use mattress stitch to sew the ears to the bear's head at desired placement. Use the picture on the front page as a guide to help with placement. arms (make 2) : CO 15 sts, leaving a 12" (31 cm) tail. Divide stitches onto 3 dpns. Join in the round, not twisting stitches. You may mark beginning of row with a stitch marker if you would like. K 1 row. *Kfb, k4* 3 times. (18 sts) K 15 rows. *Ssk, k5, k2tog* twice. ( 14 sts) K 1 row. *Ssk, k3, k2tog* twice. (10 sts) K 1 row. K2tog all sts. (5 sts) Cut yarn and pull through remaining stitches. Weave in that yarn end. Using CO tail, sew the two sides of the CO edge of the arm together, and then graft those stitches using mattress stitch to the neck area of the bear in desired placement. legs (make 2) : CO 18 sts leaving a 12" (31 cm) tail and divide between 3 dpns. Join in the round, not twisting stitches. You may mark beginning of row with a stitch marker if you would like. K 15 rows. *K2tog, k4* 3 times. (15 sts) *K2tog, k3* 3 times. (12 sts) *K2tog, k2* 3 times. (9 sts) Cut yarn and pull through all sts. Stuff legs with polyfill. Using CO edge tail, use mattress stitch to seam legs to teddy bear in desired placement. If you want him to be able to balance sitting down, seam the legs to the body where the red dotted lines are in the picture below:

But if you want him to be standing up (not necessarily balanced), then sew the legs to the body where the red dotted lines are in the following picture:

finishing : Seam any last limbs/body parts to the bear in desired placement if you haven't already. Weave in any last yarn ends. Now you're ready to embroider face! Using French knots or two black beads, embroider eyes to face, directly above the snout. To embroider nose and mouth, use a scrap of black yarn and use the following picture as a guide:

The brown circle is the snout and the black lines are the lines of embroidery to make mouth. Last but not least, add any last finishing touches, like a ribbon around its neck or a bow on top of its head. Tada! You now have a cute and cuddly teddy bear!
