Proposal Invitation: The Michigan Council of Teachers of English extends the invitation for you to submit a proposal to lead a session at their Friday, October 4, 2013 Fall Conference at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center in East Lansing, Michigan. As Michigan educators we have the challenge to maintain our pedagogical integrity and to be proponents of a strong liberal arts education in a climate that seems to be devaluing both. It is important that we continue to transform ourselves, our practice, and our classrooms to reflect the best of what we have to our Michigan English Language Arts students, while staying true to the heart of our content. Proposals should be of wide appeal, yet specific to the intended audience. Submissions could focus on the following: Exploring Media or Cultural Literacy in the 21st Century Classroom Demonstrating student centered Best Practices Engaging students in ELA Incorporating the Common Core Standards to ELA lessons Using Mentor Texts in the classroom Pairing classic texts with modern text Focusing on exemplars

Engaging students with seminal informational texts Connecting students and technology in the ELA classroom Eating, breathing, talking good literature
