Nigerias Generation Companies 1,) Afam Power Plc Afam Power Station has an installed capacity of 776MW, The

plant was commissioned in phases. During the Initial phase, 1962-1963, gas turbine units 14 were commissioned. During the second phase, 1976 to 1978, gas turbine units 5 to 12 were commissioned. Gas turbine units 13 to 18 were commissioned in 1982 Two gas turbine units were added in 2001 during the final phase of the Afam Power Station extension. 2) Shiroro Hydro Power Plc (concession) Shiroro Power Plant was commissioned in 1990; it has an installed capacity of 600 MW, It currently runs at full capacity, generating 2, 100 GWh of electricity annually. As Nigerias newest hydroelectric plant, Shiroro hosts Nigerias SCADA-operated national control centre. Shiroro is also equipped with switch yard facilities that include a technical step down function for enhanced distribution into the national grid, an advanced control room and modern training facilities. The plant is situated in the Shiroro Gorge on the Kaduna River, approximately 60 km from Minna, capital of Niger State, in close proximity to .Abuja, Nigerias federal capital 3) Ughelli Power Plc Ughelli Power Plc operates a gas-fired thermal plant located in the Niger Delta region. Ughelli Power is one of the largest thermal generating power stations in Nigeria. The plant has a peak capacity of 972 MW; it can generate 2500 GWh of electricity annually. The plant meets current world specifications for plants of its type, and includes an updated control room, a switchgear room, a staff training school and recreational facilities. Ughelli began operations in 1966. 4) Kainji/Jebba Hydro Electric Pic (Concession) Kainji/Jebba Power operates as two hydro generation plants, each drawing water from the River Niger. The combined installed capacity of the two plants is 1330 MW, with Kainji generating 760 MW and Jebba 570 MW Effectively, the plants operate at full capacity. Kainji began operation as Nigerias first hydro power plant in 1968 while the Jebba plant was commissioned in 1985. Jebba is the smallest ofthe three operating hydro Power plants in Nigeria. In addition to generation facilities, the hydro plants have on-site Medical facilities a staff school, a recreation centre, and a training school. The two plants are in very good condition. 5) Sapele Power Plant Sapele Power Plant is a Thermal generating station located in Nigerias gas- rich Delta State. Sapele has an installed capacity of 1020 MW Sapele Powers six 120 MW steam turbines generate a daily average of 86.72 MWI.j/H or approximately 2,500GW/H annually Sapele. Power currently operates at a peak capacity of 972 MW Sapele Power is strategically located in the Niger Delta region, close to sources of both natural gas feedstock and a river for cooling its steam turbine generators

Sapele Power Includes an updated control room, a switchgear room, a Staff training school, and medical recreational facilities. Sapele Power began operations in 1978. Non -Operating Assets

6 ) Calabar Thermal Power Station Calabar Power Station has an installed capacity of 6.6 MW derived from three units of 2.2 MW each. Currently, it supplje 4.4 MW to the national grid and Primarily serves as a booster station to the Afam and Oji River power stations The Calabar Power Station was built in 1934.

7,) Oji River Power Station Oji River Thermal Power Station was originally built to take advantage of plentiful nearby deposits of high-gra5 coal. Oji generates io MW of power from five coal-fired boilers and four steam turbines originally installed in 1955. The plant is the only coal-fired steam Power Station in Nigeria. Water from the nearly Oji River is used to feed the steam turbines and also for cooling purposes L) Ijora Thermal Power Station Ijora Power Plant was commissioned in 1956 with coal-fired boilers which are no longer operational The plant has a 1 32/33i transmission station that is in good condition, but its 33/11KV transformers need replacement Although the plant is currently nonoperational, current demand for power the availability of natural gas, and the governmen.5 programme for gas utilisation give Ijora Power a competitive advantage. The location of the plant makes it ideal for an Independent Power Plant project.

Nigerias Distribution Companies

1.) Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company Plc. Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, or Kaduna Disco, is located in the North Central region of Nigeria. It has a franchise for distribution and marketing of electricity in the Kaduna Zone, which includes the Makera, Doka, Birnin Kebbi, Gusau, Sokoto and Zaria Districts. Kaduna Disco owns and maintains 37 number 33 KV and 107 number 11 KV circuits. It also operates 79 number 33/11 KV substations and 2, 007 number 11/0.415 KV distribution substations. In 2005, Kaduna recorded improved collections largely as a result of optimized metering! billing efficiencies. With improved tariff, additional distribution capacity and improved collections, Kaduna Disco projects doubling revenue in the next fourfive years.

2.) Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, or Abuja Disco, serves central Nigeria from its base in Abuja, Nigerias capital city in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Abuja Disco was established in 1997 following the transfer of the capital from Lagos to Abuja in 1991. Abuja Disco has a franchise for distribution and marketing of comprising Minna, Suleja, Lokoja and Lafia Districts. Despite past investments in expanding the electricity infrastructure, demand in the Discos service zone far exceeds supply. Increasing population continues to add to that demand. Abuja Disco distributes an average of 204, 150 MW of electricity annually, and has been ranked fourth among the 11 discos for both sales and electricity purchased/distributed. Abuja Disco infrastructure is among the most modern and best maintained in Nigeria. Among other infrastructure, Abuja Disco owns and maintains 60 number 15 MVA injection sub stations, in addition to 11 number 7.5 MVA and 35 number 2.5 MVA injection sub stations. In 2005, Abuja Disco intensified collection efforts with the installation of prepayment meters, route sequencing, bulk, and feeder-by-feeder energy audits.

3.) Jos Electricity Distribution Plc Jos Electricity Distribution Plc, or Jos Disco, is located in the northeastern part of Nigeria and serves a significant industrial customer base in Bauchi, Benue, Gombe and Plateau States, as well as Saminaka in Kaduna State. The Jos Zone is subdivided into four districts, namely, Jos, Makurdi, Bauchi and Gombe. Jos is the centre of Nigerias mining industry. Jos Disco covers more than 610, 000 sq. Km., with a population of more than 13 million. Jos Disco owns and maintains 31 number 33 KV and 104 number 11 KV circuits, covering 4, 540.56 and 898.609 kilometers, respectively. It also operates 4339 number 11/0.415 KV network circuits and maintains 7,066 kilometers of 0.415 KV circuit. Jos Discos revenue is projected to increase by much as 80% in the next four-to-five years as a result of new distribution capacity combined with improved tariffs, new metering! billing efficiencies, improved collections, and a grow}ng customer base.

Customer Base: 277,626 (2008) 4.) Kano Electricity Distribution Company Plc Kano Electricity Distribution Plc, or Kano Disco, is located in northwestern Nigeria and has a franchise for distribution of electricity in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States, through seven districts, namely Nassarawa, Dala, Katsina, Dutse, Kumbotso, Funtua and Dakata. Kano Disco owns and maintains 37 number 33 KVand 107 number 11 KV circuits, covering 4, 145.69 and 2, 1829.95 kilometers, respectively. It also operates 79 number 33/11 KV injection substations and 2, 007 Number 11/0.415 KV distribution substations.

Kano Disco distributes approximately 14% of the power generated by its parent company, the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN). In 2005, Kano Disco distributed a total of 1, 228, 710, 220 GWh of electricity to 286, 622 residential, commercial and industrial end-users. By 2008, its customer base had grown to 489,965. 5.) Yola Electricity Distribution Plc Yola Electricity Distribution Company, or Yola Disco, is located in the northeastern part of Nigeria, an area dominated by agricultural customers in Adamawa, Bomb, Taraba and Yobe States. Yola Disco is subdivided into four districts, namely, Yola, Maiduguri, Taraba and Damaturu. Yola Disco owns and maintains 22 number 33KV and 59 number 11KV circuits, extending over 3, 190.23 and 866.93 kilometres, respectively. It also operates 43 number 33/11 KV injection substations and 999 number 11/0.415 CV distribution substations. Yola Discos location, near Yoaunde, Cameorun, and the Chad and Niger Republic borders, suggests a market for crossborder export of electricity.

6.) Enugu Electricity Distribution Plc Enugu Electricity Distribution Plc, or Enugu Disco, located in the southeastern part of Nigeria, distributes and markets elctricity in franchise areas that includeAbia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States. The franchise area is further subdivided into 10 districts, namely, Aba, Abakaliki, Abakpa, Aw1a, Ogui, Onitsha, Owerri, Nnewi, and Umuahia The Aba and Onitsha districts are home to two of Nigerias major domestic commercial/industrial centres. Enugu Disco is Nigerias second largest distribution company in terms of its customer base and the fifth largest in terms of electricity sales. In recent years, Enugu Disco has enhanced its revenue generation Capacity, leading to the increase tf its monthly collection by an average of 32% over 3 years. It has also put in place operational improvements that led to a 52% increase in its bulk distribution capacity, from 467.25 MVA to 710.75 MVA. 7 ) Benin Electricity Distribution Company Benin Electricity Distribution Plc, or Benin Disco, serves a primarily industrial customer base in Delta Edo, Omido and Ekiti States, in Nigerias tern region, an area dominated by companies that produce oil and nergy. The districts under Benin Disco include Ado-Ekiti, Afenonesan Akure, Asab, Akpakpava, Ugbowo and Warri, Benin Disco owns and maintains 39 number 33 KV and 200 number 11 KV circuits, covering 4, 979. 391 and 5,7085 kjlometres respectively, It also operates 153 number 33/11KV injection substations and 124 number 6.6/0.415 KV dittribution substations, It also owns and maintains 7 number 6.6 KV circuit, 92.14 kilometers of 6.6 KV/3.3 KV. 8.) Eko Electricity Distribution Company Plc Eko Electricity Distribution Plc, or Eko Disco, located in Lagos. Nigerias commercial and financial hub and the Agbara industrial region. Eko Discos

franchise includes Festac, Ijora, Lagos Island, Ajah and Agbara/Badagry districts of the Lagos South zone, with the Republic of Benin as a potential target of electricity export.

Eko Disco owns and maintains 51 number 33 KV and 217 number 11 KV circuits, covering 508 and 2, 137.95 kilometers respectively, It also operates 48 number 33/11 KV injection substations and 4, 019 number 116/0.415 KV distribution substations,

9.) Ikeja Electricity Distribution company Plc Ikeja Electricity Distribution Plc, or Ikeja Disco, is located in Lagos and has a franchise for distributing and marketing electricity in the Ikeja Zone which includes parts of Lagos, Shomolu, Alimosho, Ojodu, Ikorodu, Oshodi and Abule-Egba. In 2005, Ikeja Disco delivered a total of 3, 520, 324, 310 GWh of electricity to 464, 756 registered Customers, 10) Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc Ibadan Electricity Distribution Plc, or Ibadan Disco, is located in the south-western region of Nigeria and has a franchise for distributing and marketing electricity in parts of Ogun, Osun and Kwara States. Ibadan Discos service area is subdivided into eight districts, namely, Abeokuta, Dugbe, Molete, Ijebu-Ode, Osogbo and Ilorin, Sango-ota and Oyo. Ibadan Disco owns and maintains 65 number 33 KV and 155 number 11 <V circuits, covering 4,154 and 14, 760.58 kilometers respectively, it also operates 122 number 33/11 KV injection substations and 3,431 number 116/0.415KV distribution substations and 9,095 number 0.415 KV network circuits covering 12,315 kilometers. 11 ) Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution company Plc Port-Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc, or Port Harcourt Disco, Serves Bayelsa, Cross River Akwa-lbom and parts of Delta States in Nigerias south-south zone. The Disco is in turn subdivided into six districts, namely, Calabar, Diobu, Ikom/ogoja, Borikiri, Uyo and Yenegoa. Port-Harcourt Disco owns and maintains 22 number 33 Ky and 64 number 11 Ky circuits. It also operates 22 number 33/11KV injection Substations and 3,431 number 116/0.415 Ky distribution substations. In addition, it possesses 1, 793 number 11/0,415 KV substations and 5,662 number 0.415 KV circuits. In 2005, Port-Harcourt Disco delivered a total of 1,163,064, 600 GWh of electricity to 206,545 Customers. Its customer base had risen to 347,789 in 2008. Transmission Company of Nigeria Plc Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) Plc, or Transysco, manages Nigerias power

grid. The responsibilities of TCN include system planning, engineering, operation, maintenance, procurement and management to support the national transmission network. The transmission network is subdivided into five zones for operational and management purposes. The zones are coordinated from a National Control Centre at Oshogbo, and a supplementary centre at Shiroro. The Transmission management network also comprises six regional offices and several satellite work centres. Transysco manages connection and scheduling of independent power generating stations and is the holder of both the transmission and system operating licenses.
