Michigan United is seeking a professional with experience building organizations to join our team as we grow our programs for social and economic justice. Michigan United is a statewide coalition of faith, labor, civil rights, business, and social service organizations working together for a more just society. Our current work focuses on defending the civil rights of immigrants and promoting just immigration reform, advocating for the rights of low-wage workers, and securing dignified, affordable housing for all. We believe in community organizing that deeply invests in the capacity of marginalized communities to fulfill their full human potential and lead movements for long-term change. We support campaigns that will enact progressive local, statewide, and national policy and will build greater long-term power for our communities. Finally, we are working to build the capacity of our organization to deliver important social, legal and educational services to our members. The Director of Operations and New Adventures will be responsible for the 'nuts and bolts' that keep our organization operating efficiently and growing sustainably. Responsibilities include: -Working with the Executive Director and Board to envision, design, propose, fund and lead new programs. We anticipate that these programs will include the implementation of comprehensive immigration reform as well as service programs and partnerships for members, such as immigration legal aid, ESL, and financial literacy. We anticipate future campaigns to raise the minimum wage in Michigan, regulate pay-day lending, and win innovative new policies to reduce abusive foreclosures. We are also exploring new areas of work in environmental justice. -Working with the organizing team to ensure unity of purpose across the organization and build a sense of team between members and leaders working on different campaigns in different parts of the state. -Ensure compliance with grant requirements and reports. -Working with the organizing team to implement strong logistics for group events, such as staff meetings and retreats, board meetings, advocacy days, and membership conventions. -Working with the Executive Director to write proposals and grants.

-Lead community fundraising programs. -Work with the accountant to administer financial and human resource systems. Applicants should have some prior experience in development or administration in the non-profit, philanthropic, or political fields. Applicants should have strong organizational skills, a tireless commitment to social justice, and be comfortable asking people for money. Familiarity with immigration, workers rights, or housing issues is a plus. Applicants should be prepared for a fastpaced work environment with a high-level of autonomy. The Director will occasionally be expected to pitch-in on major organizing priorities. Applicants should be comfortable with modern office software and learning new technologies. Michigan United uses Salsa Labs, the Voter Activation Network, Microsoft and Google productivity software, Facebook, Twitter, and Mobile Commons. Directors must: -Have their own reliable car. American-made cars are encouraged. -Have their own cell phone and computer. -Be comfortable working with a culturally, religiously, and economically diverse group of partners, members, and staff The Director of Operations and New Adventures will be based in Dearborn, Michigan.
