NURSING RESPONSIBILITIES
Take with food or milk to minimize GI upset. Raise siderails Advise patient too much intake may cause liver.

CLASSIFICATION MECHANISM OF ACTION


Hormone and synthetic substitute; antidiabetic Decreases Hepatic Glucose production, decreases Intestinal absorption of glucose, and Increases Peripheral uptake and utilization of glucose.

INDICATION
Treatment for type 2 diabetic clients.

CONTRAINDICATION SIDE EFFECTS


Hypersensitivity to the drug. Renal disease or dysfunction. Alcoholism Acute or chronic acidosis. Abnormal hepatic function Hypoglycemia

NURSING RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor blood glucose level periodically. Tell patient it will cause a metallic taste: should subside. Consume Plenty of fluids; report when vomiting is severe. Take in with food to decrease GI upset.

CLASSIFICATION MECHANISM OF ACTION


Penicillin B-lactam antibiotic w/ Blactamase inhibitor Spectrum. Augmentin works by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls.

INDICATION
Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis (adequately diagnosed) Community acquired pneumonia Cystitis Pyelonephritis Bone and joint infections, in particular osteomyelitis Intra-abdominal infections Female genital infections.

CONTRAINDICATION SIDE EFFECTS


Hypersensitivity History of Jaundice or hepatic dysfunction associated with amoxicillin/clauvan ate. Severe renal impairment. Diarrhea Nausea and vomiting Rash Itching/Swelling

NURSING RESPONSIBILITIES
Take medicine with food. Notify physician.

Patients with Type 1 diabetes. High blood ketone levels. Hypersensitivity. Hypoglycemia Acute pancreatitis

NURSING RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor blood sugar level. Observe carefully for s/s of pancreatitis; if suspected discontinue drug administration.

CLASSIFICATION MECHANISM OF ACTION


Antidiabetic Pioglitazone acts as an agonist at peroxisome proliferator activated receptors (PPAR) in target tissues for insulin action such as adipose tissue, skeletal muscle, and liver.

INDICATION
Indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

CONTRAINDICATION SIDE EFFECTS


Hypersensitivity to the drug. Congestive heart failure Liver problems Low blood sugar Dizziness

NURSING RESPONSIBILITIES
Avoid activities that requires alertness. Take once daily regarding to meals.

Increase risk for bone fracture in women Nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, lack of energy.

DOSAGE: 15 mg tab daily After lunch

Discontinue administration of the drug.

NURSING RESPONSIBILITIES
Ask client to report any changes in urinary elimination, pain or discomfort. Avoid alcohol and OTC agents as well as foods known to cause GI upset. Avoid activities that require mental alertness. Ask client if allergic to the drug.

CLASSIFICATION MECHANISM OF ACTION


Calcium channel blocker and an angiotensin II receptor antagonist. Amlodipine as a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that inhibits the transmembrane influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle and Telmisartan blocks the vasoconstrictor and aldosteronesecreting effects of angiotensin II by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor in many tissues

INDICATION

Hypersensitivity on both components of the drug. Pregnancy and lactation. Presence of biliary obstruction. Dizziness and lightheadedne ss. Diarrhea Vomiting Low blood pressure Edema Advise patient to rise up slowly from the bed. Report prolonged diarrhea and vomiting to the physician. Monitor Blood pressure.

Hypertension
