Dangerous sports, such as rock climbing, mountaineering and diving, are very popular these days, especially among

young people. These activities will give people excitement and challenge and make them different from others. I think these are the main reasons why people are so enthusiastic about them.

First of all, dangerous activities are very exciting and fun. Everyday, for most people life is almost the same, commuting between companies and dwellings, working eight hours, doing house work or watching boring TV programs. Taking part in dangerous but not life-threatening games, such as bungee, would surely add fun to their dull routine life. Not only the players but also the spectators would feel excited in these activities. Another reason is that, by participating in dangerous sports, people can develop their skills and stamina. Dangerous activities, such as mountain climbing, are very challenging. During explorations in mountain climbing, people will face difficulties and dangerous of the perilous nature. In order to cope with these difficulties, they need careful planning and training in advance. Therefore, these activities are very beneficial in building their skills and strength.

Finally, taking part in such activities is also a good opportunity for some people to differentiate themselves from ordinary people. It is nature that people want to be different from others and dream to become famous. There have been many cases of risk-takers who came to fame overnight by their success in very dangerous activities.

In conclusion, by taking part in various dangerous activities, people will have fun, develop their skills and make them different. I believe this explains why such kinds of activities are becoming more and more prevalent nowadays

earthquakes, floods, avalanche, volcanoes, hurricane, landslide all of them will effect people, people lose their homes their loose their animals pets precious things to them and people get hurt so it really does affect people.
flood can kill people, made people homeless like ruining their house, furnitures and valuable belonging. Flood can also make young children from going to school because all schools would be closed if there is flood at their place.

1. Economy

Economic loss o The flooding in Jiangxi of China in 1998 caused great damage. The economic loss was HK$156 billion, 400 buildings surrounding the lake were inundated, leaving more than 1 million people homeless. Resources used in reconstruction o After flooding, government has to input many resources for aiding or reconstruction, e.g., police force, fire control, aid worker, resources used for resisting flood, etc. This also brings loss to society.

2. Environment

Traffic o Flooding will lead to the damages of roads, collapse of bridges or traffic congestion, which may affect the daily operation. Damaging the farmland o Flooding brings too much water which will cause damage to farmland.

3. Human Beings

People died and lose their homes o Flooding will cause death and injuries. In year 1998, 0.23 billion of people were affected in the flooding of Xian, including 3 thousands people dead, 1 million of people lost their homes. In 1996, the monsoon flood in India affected more than five million people in the northern and eastern part of the country. Severe floods have also killed some 200 people in India and Bangladesh and left millions homeless and starvation.

4. Disease

Flooding usually brings infectious diseases, e.g. military fever, pneumonic plague, dermatopathia, dysentery, common cold (type A), breakbone fever, etc. And for those areas which have no electric supply due to flooding, food poisoning may occur as food may not be properly frozen.

Volcanoes affect people in many ways, some are good, some are not. Some of the bad ways are that houses, buildings, roads, and fields can get covered with ash. As long as you can get the ash off (especially if it is wet), your house may not collapse, but often the people leave because of the ash and are not around to continually clean off their roofs. If the ashfall is really heavy it can make it impossible to breathe. Lava flows are almost always too slow to run over people, but they can certainly run over houses, roads, and any other structures. Pyroclastic flows are mixtures of hot gas and ash, and they travel very quickly down the slopes of volcanoes. They are so hot and choking that if you are caught in one it will kill you. They are also so fast (100-200 km/hour) that you cannot out-run them. If a volcano that is known for producing pyroclastic flows is looking like it may erupt soon, the best thing is for you to leave before it does. Some of the good ways that volcanoes affect people include producing spectacular scenery, and producing very rich soils for farming. .

Topic 43: do you study alone or friends? Use specific examples and reasons to support your choice. Studying alone and studying with friends have some advantages and disadvantages. For instance, if we study alone, we can concentrate doing our homework and spend more time improving weak skills better but we will some difficult problems during remembering a lot of information from our lessons. However, I want to study with my friends. Several reasons will illustrate my point of view. To begin with, when we study with our friends, we can discuss some topics in our lessons together in order to find the best ways to resolve many difficult problems. Furthermore, from this situation, we can remember information in long time. For example, when I learn English alone, I always forget vocabulary and meet difficulties when I talk with my teachers and other students in my class, but when I learn it with my friends, I remember a lot of new words better and become more confident and comfortable during communicating with them. Another important reason is that we can learn and improve some knowledge and experience from our friends because each my friend has different strengths. Moreover, studying with friends will impulse us to research and read more books in order to exchange new knowledge and experience each other. Finally, studying with our friends, we can reduce stress and tired when we spend a lot of time learning by some different ways, such as playing some sports and travelling to someplace on the weekend. For example, I usually feel tired and stressed after days hard work, thus I want to meet my friends in order to share my emotion with them and they will help me reduce stress. I will forget all worries in my study and work. In conclusion, I think that friends will play an important role in our lives and studies. They will help us remember knowledge for a long time, and exchange it with us. Consequently, I prefer to study with my friends. TOEFL listening lectures: A lecture from a history class

Advantages: Teacher vacation schedules are quite nice. Very few people in the private sector have the holidays that we do. Although teachers are always welcome to bring work home, it's nice to (generally) have evenings off as well as weekends.

Disdvantages: Working with Students

The opportunity to work with young people is one of the main reasons many people decide to become teachers. Helping students learn and achieve goals can make teaching a fulfilling vocation. On the other hand, if children misbehave, enforcing discipline can be stressful. Teachers may also have to interact with parents, which can contribute to the stress of dealing with problem students. Hours School days are typically about six hours long. On some days, teachers may work less than a full eight-hour day, but teachers must grade papers, tests and prepare curriculum which often requires hours of extra work before and after class sessions. The BLS states that teachers often work more than 40 hours a week. Professors at colleges and universities have more flexibility in terms of when they teach.

Career Options
Another major advantage of being a computer information manager is the opportunity to work in a wide array of employment environments. You can work for the government, in education or private business. Each of these offer different types of challenges, different working relationships and unique challenges. Good CIS managers can also pick the location and job opportunities of most interest. Advancement into higher level leadership positions in companies is also possible.

Pressure
The computer information systems department in an organization may appear laid back under normal conditions. However, with major projects or technology issues, the stress on a CIS manager and his team increases greatly. Organizations that rely heavily on computers, the Internet and software tools face severe challenges when the computer network goes down. CIS managers and teams may have to work late hours and on weekends to get the system working properly again.

Lifestyle
Many professional touring musicians enjoy a free and adventurous lifestyle on the road. Top-tier touring musicians support original band members on-stage. Even though they may not be part of the original lineup that became famous, they are still seen as "rock stars" by adoring fans. Musicians on the road do not have set schedules as long as they make their soundchecks and show up for shows. This means lots of personal time at hotels and entertainment venues when not in transit. Two disadvantages of travel are missing family and friends back home, and difficulty adjusting to normal life after a tour. Pro musicians who don't tour but spend their time in recording studios also enjoy freedom in their schedules, but they often stay up all night to lay down tracks.

Popularity
Professional musicians who have recorded nationally successful music or who play with famous bands on the road enjoy a high degree of fame and popularity. Everywhere they go, people recognize their faces or names -- a huge ego boost. Fans and even strangers are willing to treat musicians to food, drink and other perks, just to spend time with them. The obvious downside to this visibility and popularity is a complete lack of any real privacy. People want a piece of the professional musician at any cost, and may crowd the musician when he would rather have quiet time. At its worst, the lack of privacy can cause safety issues. Local and regional musicians who play in original or cover bands around town also enjoy some degree of visibility or popularity, but without as many privacy issues.

Income
The music business can be an industry of extremes regarding income. Those who reach star status can earn millions, while local musicians earn very little. Even so, when musicians are able to make a living professionally at any level, they are still happy doing what they love -- so they are not poor following their hearts. Professional musicians at any level can also enjoy a lifetime of paid royalties for recorded songs they either wrote or performed. The disadvantage of earning a fortune as a professional musician is not knowing if people really want to be involved with you for you -- since gold-diggers abound. Unscrupulous managers can also cause funds to disappear if the professional musician doesn't take an active role in managing finances.

Music's Contributions
Professional musicians who are able to make a living enjoy the fruits of many years of training and practice, such as hearing their own songs on the radio, providing music for people to enjoy at parties, or getting music awards. However, the downside is long hours of very hard work, including pottential conflict with bandmates, practicing songs over and over again. Whether their music puts audiences in a "time machine" to enjoy music of the past or creates fresh memories with new music, professional musicians help people to forget the mundane.

The sea air is refreshing, unlike the polluted air of the cities. The sound of the waves is more relaxing, than the sound of car horns and squealing brakes. Time seems to move slower at the shore; it's not governed by every tick of the clock. It's easier to see the stars at night. The lights and buildings of the cities block them out.
Children enjoy swimming in the sea and building sandcastles.

When you are on holiday and intend to go to the seaside or travel abroad as a tourist, you should first of all decide on the means of

traveling. You can travel by train, by ship, by car and of course, by plane. Traveling by plane is more comfortable, more convenient and much quicker than any other method. But not everybody likes it. Some people say they do not see very much of the country they go to. Trains are good enough for them. They enjoy the movement and the excitement of railway stations, the shouts of porters pulling and pushing luggage along the platforms and the sight of trains ready to start. Some holiday-makers are all for traveling by sea. Of course, one can watch the sun rise and set, which is an unforgettable sight. For people who get seasick, a sea voyage is out the question. If you go by car, you may spend part of your holiday moving from place to place. You can stop wherever you like. Whatever means of traveling you choose, it is advisable to book accommodation in advance. You can book tickets yourself or do that through telephone.

Like surfing, river rafting is known to many as one of the most dangerous sports in the waters. Here, you need to paddle alongside other paddlers, and do it as hard as you can to get through the raging waters. While it is fun for most, the reality is that a paddler can put himself at risk despite wearing a helmet. skiing, recreation, sport, and mode of transportation that involves moving over snow by the use of a pair of long, flat runners called skis, attached or bound to shoes or boots.

Why do people like sailing? It's fun! Sailing can made made as fast and exciting as you like - or as gentle and relaxing as you like. Racing against others gives great competition, or you can use a boat to explore an area of water. You'll also meet new friends, and maybe get fitter.
I love being outside in the Winter having fun in the snow. I used to think there were only 2 seasons....August and Winter because I was always cold. Then I started to ski. Now, I enjoy all the seasons and can be found on the ski slopes in weather when others might think it was too cold to be outside. I love the feeling of going fast ( Although I don't ski as fast as THE Ski Diva). I like talking to friends on the lift. And, I like returning home tired after a day on skis. And that is why I moved to Vermont after 35 years in Philadelphia!
