Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) is a non profit umbrella organisation currently supporting twenty six (26) community conservancies spread across Kenya in Marsabit County, Laikipia County, Isiolo County, Meru County, Baringo County, Samburu County, Garrisa County and Lamu County whose mission is to develop resilient community conservancies that transform lives, secure peace and conserve natural resources. We are seeking to fill the following positions in our member conservancies:

CONSERVANCY MANAGER - 5 POSITIONS

1. Meibae Conservancy- Samburu County, 2. Nakuprat Gotu Conservancy- Isiolo County, 3. Songa Conservancy - Marsabit County 4. Shura Conservancy - Marsabit County 5. Jaldesa Conservancy - Marsabit County Reporting to the Conservancy Board and with a close working relationship with the NRT team, the Conservancy Manager will be responsible for both strategic and operational support to the conservancy. The Manager will be responsible for managing the conservancy and developing it to a self-sustaining model that integrates wildlife conservation, environemnetal conservation, tourism and livestock; benefits the surrounding communities; protects the ecological integrity of the land and contributes to improvement of the community livelihoods. Operationally this will entail managing the conservancy and overseeing all conservancy activities such as wildlife conservation, livestock programs, security operations and other community development programs. In addition, the position will manage community relations, to ensure long-term self-sustainability, strong conservation and benefits to communities; manage all conservancy staff to ensure motivation, high productivity , supervise, monitor, and maintain conservancy assets at highest level, manage all conservancy logistics to ensure compliance with conservancy regulations and efficiencies, oversee management of all conservancy budgets, expenses and revenue, ensure clear record keeping, accurate budgeting and compliance with NRT and donor financial procedures. The successful candidate will have:

A Bachelors degree in conservation, natural resource management or Community Development A minimum of five (5) years relevant experience in community development. Demonstrated ability to think creatively and solve problems effectively A strong drive for results with demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a member of team; to work with a diversity of stakeholders and communities; and to effectively coordinate, lead and motivate a multidisciplinary staff. In-depth knowledge and demonstrated commitment to wildlife conservation and natural resource management. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in remote areas, in cross-cultural situations, with diverse economic and professional background. Excellent verbal and written communications (English and Kiswahili); computer literacy essential. A firm understanding of pastoralist customary livestock practices and community engagement processes.

CONSERVATION OFFICER- 1 POSITION

Based at the Melako Community Conservancy, this position is responsible for community engagement, effective communication and publicity to ensure visibility of the conservation efforts and proper documentation of program successes. Reporting to the Conservancy Manager the conservation officer will; Develop and implement a communication strategy that will ensure that all donors are informed of the conservancy activities Participate in community mobilisation and training of communities on conservation Supporting the conservancy team in designing effective conservation plans and technical partnerships Preparing funding proposals, tracking budgets and progress in accomplishing work plans Managing and drafting technical reports for donors Providing analytical support to the conservancy by documenting lessons learned and success stories Conservation education in schools Contributing to annual budgeting and conservation planning processes

The successful candidate will have: Degree in wildlife conservation, tourism, community development or communications Excellent written and oral communication skills computer literacy essential. Strong interest in conservation Creative thinker with strong attention to detail. Interest in media relations and nonprofit marketing/communications In-depth knowledge and demonstrated commitment to wildlife conservation and natural resource management. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in remote areas, in cross-cultural situations, with diverse economic and professional background.
