Evaluation Techniques: Diagnostic Test (Pre-Test) and Formative and Summative Assessment Course Contents: Vocabulary, Reading Selections, Language Skills, Phonics, Listening Selections Course Objectives: To prepare all students to reach their full potential through the development of all four areas of the English program. At the end of the course the student will have learned to: React to verbal instructions, commands, greetings and farewells Demonstrate early phonemic awareness Use basic vocabulary in English to express him/herself and identify familiar concepts Identifies vowels and consonants and associates the sounds. Uses illustrations and context clues to identify details and main character Uses aural phonemic awareness strategies to manipulate sounds Identifies and traces the letters of the alphabet Writes the letters that represent first name Identifies and writes the initial consonant in words or pictures Classroom Rules: I will respect my teacher, classmates, and private property. I will be on time and raise my hand to talk in class. I will ask permission to leave the classroom, get up or talk to someone. I will not sharpen pencils, eat, play or be distracted during the class. I will complete and turn in on time all assignments. I will bring a written excuse if Im absent, and ask for a make up date if I miss a test. I understand that rules are established to make the classroom a safe and calm place to learn in.

Respond to simple commands, instructions and statements and to answer the 5- W questions Use appropriate vocabulary to express familiar concepts and feelings Demonstrate verbal and non verbal forms of greetings and farewells Use phonemic awareness, decoding skills and context clues to determine meaning Identify main character, setting and story organization and make predictions Arrange words in alphabetical order using first letter Identify main parts of speech Write simple words, declarative and interrogative sentences Write simple three to four word sentences Use the dictionary as an aid in the writing process
