BIO:
Doctor Magnum, formed in 2012, is an instrumental outfit out of Albany, NY. Since the band's formation, Charlie Button (guitar), Jerome Steele (guitar), Boris (bass), and Rob Colpoys (drums) have been developing their own distinct, cohesive brand of improvisational music that takes considerable influence from jazz, hip-hop, and psychedelic rock, among other styles. In 2013, Doctor Magnum released their free debut, Live at Red Square, via Bandcamp and Soundcloud. Live at Red Square boasts a combination of energetic original compositions and imaginative interpretations of cover songs from a wide-reaching selection of artists (Frank Ocean, Bill Evans, Jimi Hendrix, Madvillain, and more) and showcases Doctor Magnum's intricate arranging, blistering improvisations, and unique sonic palate. Doctor Magnum has performed alongside a diverse collection of musicians, ranging from the 2012 Guggenheim Award recipient, Bobby Previte, to Northeast jam-band favorites, including Tauk and Timbre Coup.

PRESS:
[Doctor Magnums] Live at Red Square updates the repertoire and approach to small-band jazz. Doctor Magnum marshals humor, chops and that sloppy hip hop beat to illustrate the enduring relevance and capacity for renewal of small-group interactive improvisation. And that is good news. - Jeff Dayton-Johnson, featured contributor at All About Jazz
[Doctor Magnum] takes on elements of 60s arrangement and production values into modern day hip-hop constructs, while embodying a post-constructural approach. [Doctor Magnum] take on covers to show the myriad applications of the originals while bringing out overstated sounds in new, unfound and understated ways. - Sjimon Gompers, contributing writer at Impose Magazine
