INTRODUCTION

In simple words, a network is a set of nodes joined by edges; but with the use of technology and from a technical point of view this concept has changed. Actually when we talk about NETWORKS we refer a set of components or devices interconnected by a medium, this could be wired or wireless, either. Then we will discuss and explain these issues more detailed.

OBJECTIVES
GENERAL: To Learn about networks and communications

SPECIFICS:

To know what components interact in networks. To learn how networks works.

INVESTIGATION
NETWORK: A network is a general term referring to a set of related elements or entities linked to each other. The coexistence of these elements is defined by the communication or exchange processes performed within a structured environment. COMPUTER NETWORK: A computer network is a set of computers and devices interconnected to each other allowing the computers to communicate with each other and share resources and information. Understanding what a computer network is, we can integrate other concepts of technology to create one. So next we will see these concepts and what these refer: First we need to know that computers use protocols to achieve their communication. A protocol: Is a set of methods, and standards that enable the connection between computers with the objective of transfer data. So under the concept of protocol takes sense how a computer can communicate with other remotely. Computers and internet works using the TCP/IP Protocol. TCP/IP: means Transfer Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol. This is a standard of how computers will sent/receive data using a physical network (internet). For example when you visit a website you are making a request to the Server using the TCP/IP. Server: is a computer that performs a specific task for people knew as clients. When you create a domestic network, you need to use certain devices as a Router or Switch.

Switch: a switch is a device that commutates the data in it inputs to translate it another input in form of output, this can be done by the recognizing the IP address that is contained into the packets of data that are transferees from one computer to other. Packets: Computers segment the information in a little bit package caller packets, this packets contain information about who computer is their destiny and what number of packet is, this with the objective to recollect all packets in the destination computer an integrate the segmented data that was sent by the transmitter. IP Address: Ip address is a logical direction uses to identify in a unique form a computer with a number, this number could be assigned by manual way or by a DHCP Server (if you use a router). Router: is a device that allows us to interact with internet through our ISP (Internet Service Provider).

When we talk about networks, is too important to know about the topologies. Topology: Is the way or form of how a network is distributed, so for the oral presentation the topology showed in the annexes will be implemented. Finally we can say that a network facilitates communication between entities, and also helps optimize resources and time because through it you can share resources remotely like printers, documents, etc.

Development of the project In this project we will use the next devices: Router Thompson 1 cable utp (dsl) 1 Desktop computer 1 Laptop

Additionally well use Claro Guatemala as Internet Service Provider. First we need to connect the dsl cable to the desktop computer and the router thompon, so this acton will integrate our dektop to the default network provide by claro Guatemala called Turbonett. Second, we need to activate de Wi-fi mode in our laptop, to take and inalambric signal provide by router. Next, in the desktop computer we gone a create a group called Local to do this, we go do a right click over COMPUTER, next select PROPERTIES; next click over ADVANCED SETTINGS, standing here we click over COMPUTER NAME tab, and next click over CHANGE button. A window will be shown, and in the textbox of WORKGROUP, write LOCAL, then its necessary to restart our computer, for the changes to be established. In laptop we perform the same steps above with desktop computer. So finally if we want to use the printer connected to desktop computer from the laptop, we need to go to COMPUTER, next we click over NETWORK, next we choice the computer of what is connected the printer, then make right click over this icon, an select the option CONNECT. Last, open Microsoft word, and create a document, next click over PRINT, and choice the printer previously chosen in NETWORK option. Click over, ok, and finally we see hoy printer start to work.

CONCLUSIONS

Networks facilitate the life of human beings. Networks are a set of components interconnected to achieve communication. With networks we can share different things. Computers use methods knew as Protocol to transfer data Switch and router are devices that permit to establish a local network or lans.
