at 750oC 1.3 SUBMITTALS A. 1.4 Product Data and Samples: Submit manufacturer's product data and samples for the Engineers approval as well as installation procedures.

TRANSPORTATION, HANDLING AND STORAGE A. B. Store insulation materials in weather tight enclosure. Protect insulation from damage from handling, weather and construction operations before, during and after installation.

QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Thermal Resistance: Where thermal resistance properties of insulating materials are designated by R-values they represent the rate of heat flow through a material of thickness indicated, measured by test method included in referenced material standard or otherwise indicated. Fire Performance Characteristics: Provide insulation materials which are identical to those whose fire performance characteristics, as listed for each material or assembly of which insulation is a part, have been determined by testing, in accordance with the methods indicated below: Surface Burning Characteristics: ASTM E 84 Fire Resistance Ratings: ASTM E 119 Combustibility Characteristics: ASTM E 136

PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 INSULATION MATERIALS - GENERAL A. General: Provide insulating materials to comply with the requirements indicated for materials and compliance with referenced standards, in sizes to fit applications indicated, selected from the manufacturer's standard products for size and thickness.

WALL THERMAL INSULATION A. B. General: Wall insulation shall be rockwool boards or extruded polystyrene boards as approved by Engineer. Rockwool: Shall comply with the following requirements 1. Construction: Rockwool fiber thermal insulation material produced by fusing basalt and bonded with thermosetting resin to produced semi-rigid board, complying with ASTM C 612. Average thermal conductivity of 0.038 W/mK at mean temperature of 50oC. Unfaced rockwool insulation board shall be of density not less than 70 kg/m 3. Insulation boards shall be minimum 50 mm thick, unless indicated otherwise

Moisture absorption shall be less than 1% by volume when tested in accordance with BS 2972. Fire Rating: Non-combustible with zero flame spread and zero ignitability when tested in accordance with BS 476: Part 4, 5 and 6.

Rigid Extruded Polystyrene: Shall comply with the following requirements 1. Construction: Closed-cell, extruded polystyrene rigid foam with integral skin, colored throughout, conforming to ASTM C 578 or DIN 18164 Part 1; flame spread rating of 25 or less when tested in accordance with ASTM E 84; 5-year aged average thermal conductivity of 0.032 W/mK when tested at 24oC in accordance with ASTM C 518; water vapor permeability of 1.00 perminch average; average water absorption of maximum 1 percent by volume; with rebate details on four edges of board. Rigid wall insulation boards shall have compressive strength of 210 kPa average when tested according to ASTM D 1621 and minimum density of 26 kg/m. Insulation boards shall be minimum 50 mm thick, unless indicated otherwise on Drawings.

ROOF THERMAL INSULATION: Rigid insulation boards shall comply with the following requirements: A. Construction: Closed-cell, extruded polystyrene rigid foam with integral skin, colored throughout, conforming to ASTM C 578 or DIN 18164 Part 1; flame spread rating of 25 or less when tested in accordance with ASTM E 84; 5-year aged average thermal conductivity of 0.032 W/mK when tested at 24 oC in accordance with ASTM C 518; water vapor permeability of 0.60 perm-inch average; average water absorption of maximum 1 percent by volume; with rebate details on four edges of board. Rigid roof insulation boards shall have compressive strength of 300 kPa average when tested according to ASTM D 1621 and minimum density of 32 kg/m. Insulation boards shall be minimum 50 mm thick, unless indicated otherwise on Drawings.

BLANKET/BATT INSULATION: A. Glass fiber blanket wall insulation shall be composed of glass fibers and resinous binders formed into flexible blanket complying with FS HH-I-521F, Type III; density not less than 24 kg/m 3; 5-year thermal conductivity (k-value at 24oC) of 0.035 W/m oC as per ASTM C 518; 50 mm thick with reflective aluminum foil and asphalt vapor barrier laminated to one face with 25 mm flanges on long edges; vapor transmission not more than 0.05 perm-inch as per ASTM E96A; flame spread 25 and smoke developed 10 as per UL 723; self-supporting blanket or semi-rigid sheet. Thickness as indicated on drawings.

A.

Acoustical Rockwool Insulation: Shall conform to the following requirements 1. Construction: Rockwool fibers insulation produced from molten basalt rock and bonded with thermosetting resin to produce semi-rigid insulation boards complying with ASTM C 612 or wired matt (blanket) conforming to ASTM C 592. Size: Manufacturer Standard. Thickness: Not less than 80 mm thick. Density: As recommended by the manufacturer to achieve required STC ratings of 45 to 50, but not less than 100 kg/m. Moisture Absorption: Water repellant, non-hydroscopic, and non-capillary. Moisture absorption shall be less than 1% by volume when tested in accordance with BS 2972. Fire Rating: Non-combustible with zero flame spread and zero ignitability when tested in accordance with BS 476: Part 4, 5 and 6.

FIRE BARRIER A. Rockwool Fire Barrier: Shall conform to the following requirements 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Construction: Fire barrier shall be thermosetting synthetic resin bonded, high density rockwool boards complying with ASTM C 612. Size: Manufacturer Standard. Thickness: As recommended by manufacturer for the intended application, but not less than 100 mm thick. Density: Not less than 100 kg/m. Moisture Absorption: Water repellant, non-hydroscopic, and non-capillary. Moisture absorption shall be less than 1% by volume when tested in accordance with BS 2972. Fire Rating: Non-combustible with zero flame spread and zero ignitability when tested in accordance with BS 476: Part 4, 5 and 6.

MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS A. Adhesives, tapes, mechanical fastening devices and items necessary for installation of insulation system shall be of types as recommended by the manufacturer.

B.

Vapor Retarder: Shall be heavy duty polyethylene sheet conforming to ASTM D 4397, minimum 250 microns thick having a vapor permeance rating not exceeding 0.063 perms, and laid with 300 mm overlapping.

PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 INSPECTION A. 3.2 Examine areas scheduled to receive insulation and space allocated for insulation for proper depth to receive material.

INSTALLATION A. B. Apply insulation units to substrate by methods complying with manufacturer's recommendation. If no specific methods are indicated, bond units to the substrate with adhesive or use mechanical anchorage to provide permanent placement and support of units.

3.3

CLEAN UP A. Leave work areas in a clean condition after the completion of installation. Remove and dispose off site all excess materials, litter and debris. END OF SECTION
