Having been acquainted with the work of the Gospel Broadcasting Mission for the past several years, and having taped twenty fifteen-minute programs to be
broadcast over a station in Puerto Rico,

Having had some eighteen years of ex perience in the broadcasting of the glori ous gospel of Christ, I believe that the broadcasting of the gospel affords many people the opportunity of hearing for the first time the gospel of the grace of God. When I stand before a microphone I feel that there is before me a great audience,
and that I am reaching more people in that way than one could hope to reach in
several chui'ch services.

April 7 began the 14th year of actual broadcasting from the Gospel Broadcasting Mission. The first broadcast went out over Radio Luxembourg April 7, 1952, to an estimated listening audience at that hour over Radio Lux embourg to 200,000 people, covering a radius of 800 miles, reaching most of the British Islands and beyond the
iron curtain in continental Europe. The listening hour has been improved, also the listening audience and coverage. The power of the station has been increased many times.

The people who make these pilgrimages

do so, usually for one reason only: to ask
a favor from the saint to whom they per
tain.

For instance, the house in which Saint

Catherine was born (1347-1380) and who

has been proclaimed the protectress of Italy, has been made into a sanctuary to which people can comc to ask favors of
this saint. In the house are certain relics

which are considered to be holy. For ex ample, the crucifix before which she re

ceived the "stigmata", and the rock which

she used as a pillow. The "stigmata" are the bleeding wounds in the palms of the hands sometimes also in the forehead, sup posedly duplicating the wounds of the nails
in Christ's hands and of the thorns in His
forehead.

Another example: In 1224, according to the Roman church, St. Francis received his stigmata on the top of a mountain, at Assisi, in Italy- and there the church built a monastery. This has become every year, in the spring, the goal of many pilgrims wishing to ask a favor of this saint. It is said that one night when it was very, very cold, in the middle of winter, the monks did not get up at the hour of 2:00 a.m. to re cite their prayers because of the intense

cold. They always went to the chapel of

the Stigmata, as it was called, to say these prayers. This certain night when they did not appear because of the excessive cold, all of the animals from the surrounding forest took the place of the monks in order to honor the memory of St. Frances and in the morning their footprints were found in the corridor and in the chapel. We can only ask. . . "How do you begin to teach people who believe in these things that they are only legends." Do you have
an answer?

Dear Helpers in the work of Gospel Broad

Because of your help we have been per mitted to carry on this missionary minis try of sowing the Seed of the Gospel over several lands and practically over a whole
continent.

Also, I went home to a previously planned missionary meeting and my ladies packed and sent about 15 missionary boxes. They also made some comforters, two or three
for our Missionaries who come to our

rugs that mean a lot in many places.

We would like to hear from each

Missionary "Round Up" in January. They

also paid for rugs we had woven to give to Missionaries and camps, colleges, etc. Then they climaxed the day by electing me president again of our Missionary Study
and Aid group. This is for the last 9th consecutive year (I think) and every once in a while for the last 46 years. Right now I am just a "figure head." The ladies all pitch in and do the work. Some pack boxes, some sew buttons and mend, some sew rags, make bandages, bed pads, others sort missionary bulletins for the missionary
bulletin library we maintain in the mission ary group. Others take care of local mis

and all missionary workers in the Church of Christ in America, telling of your work and any way our Mission ary Aid Group can be of service to you. Thank you. Please write immediately concerning this to Mrs. Coble.

Perhaps you have heard of the conver

sion of two German secretaries of Ed

Fauze. They first came in contact with the New Testament message through answering mail and assisting him in his labors for the Gospel Broadcasting Mission. Many more have been won through our several ministries, but if these were the only ones, it is surely worth all the time, effort and money expended!
