750 Ton DC Top Drive

The Varco TDS-4S is the number one selling top drive in the world. It is designed to accommodate the demanding requirements of deep sea drilling. The TDS-4S design improves performance and reliability while reducing maintenance. The 4S is available with either a 650 or 750 ton hoisting capacity with 45,500 ft. lbs. (Shunt) of continuous torque. And it comes with either an 1130 hp series or 1100 hp shunt type DC drilling motor and two-speed transmission for optimum power output in a given application. The TDS-4S system components include a compact integrated swivel, remote actuated upper IBOP, remote, local or closed loop cooling system and 3.00 water course (optional 3.82). Like all Varco Top Drive systems, the 4S is fully compatible with existing derricks and masts, standard traveling equipment and electrical power systems.

The Varco IDS-4A is an upgraded, AC motor powered version of the original IDS-1. Incorporating a 1,150 HP GEB20A1 AC motor with a single speed, it is designed to accommodate the demanding requirements of land and offshore drilling. The IDS4A design improves performance and reliability while reducing maintenance.

The system components include an easy to install torque tube, integrated swivel, remote actuated upper IBOP, forced air cooling system and 3" water course. Like all Varco Top Drive Systems, the IDS-4A is fully compatible with existing derricks and masts, standard traveling equipment and electrical power systems.

The TDS-8SA Top Drive is the AC motor version of the worlds number one top drive the TDS-4S developed for use in deep drilling applications. It generates 1150 HP with a hoisting capacity of up to 750 tons and a continuous drilling torque rating of 63,000 ft. lbs. The 8SA has a maximum speed of 270 RPM and intermittent torque of 94,000 ft. lbs. Because of the broad speed and torque range of AC motor technology, this impressive performance is obtained using a single-speed gear box. The TDS-8SA Top Drive is driven by a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) control system for a greater range of torque and speed performance. System components include an integrated swivel, link tilt system, remote and manual blowout preventer valves, pipe handler for breaking out connections, and a guide dolly for reacting drilling torque.

The TDS-10SA Top Drive is a single motor top drive developed for use in a variety of land and workover rig applications. It generates 350 HP with a hoisting capacity of 250 tons and a continuous drilling torque rating of 20,000 ft. lbs. The 10SA has a maximum speed of 182 RPM and makeup/break-out torque of 36,500 ft. lbs. Because of the broad speed and torque range of AC motor technology, this impressive performance is obtained using a single-speed gear box. The TDS-10SA Top Drive system is driven by a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) control system for a greater range of torque and speed performance. System components include an integrated swivel, bi-directional link tilt system, remote and manual blowout preventer valves, back-up clamp for breaking out connections, guide tube for reacting drilling torque and an electric service loop. A compact integral power unit mounted on the top drive eliminates the need for hydraulic service loops. The TDS-11SA Top Drive is an AC-motor-powered top drive developed for use as a portable or permanent unit on a wide variety of land and offshore applications. Its compact size also allows for installation on small workover and portable rigs. The 11SA generates 800 HP with a hoisting capacity of 500 tons and a continuous drilling torque rating of 37,500 ft. lbs. The 11SA has a maximum speed of 228 RPM and make-up/ breakout torque of 55,000 ft. lbs. Speed can be maintained from 114 RPM to 228 RPM without downgrading the 800 HP rating of the motors. The TDS-11SA Top Drive system is driven by a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) control system for a greater range of torque and speed performance. System components include an integrated swivel, bi-directional link tilt system, remote and manual blowout preventer valves, back-up clamp for breaking out connections, a guide beam for reacting drilling torque, and an electric service loop. A compact integral power unit mounted on the top drive eliminates the need for hydraulic service loops. And the short overall height and rapid-installation guide beam design of the 11SA ensure easy installation in existing masts or derricks. The TDS-1000 Top Drive is Varcos newest Top Drive model and will become the flagship of our fleet. Developed for use in deep drilling applications, it generates 1150 HP with a hoisting capacity of 1000 ton. Continuous drilling torque output is 63,000 ftlbs, with a maximum speed of 270 RPM. The TDS1000 provides intermittent torque output of 94,000 ft-lbs to make and break even the highest torque connections. Because of the broad speed and torque range provided by the AC motor, this impressive performance is obtained using a single-speed gear box. The TDS-1000 Top Drive is driven by a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) control system for a greater range of torque and speed performance. System components include an integrated swivel, link tilt system, remote and manual blowout preventer valves, a back-up type Pipehandler for making and breaking connections (including upper and lower IBOP connections) and a guide dolly for reacting drilling torque.
