2012/13 Presidents Report

Well, now that 2012/13 season is in the rear view mirror its time to reflect on what a great season it was. With 7 senior teams and 2 Sunday teams we entered the season as one of the strongest represented clubs in the association and the pressure was on to perform Once the dust had settled the BCC stood tall, 6 teams in the Semi Finals (the 7th was robbed and you can read all about that in the D Grade Report), From this we had 4 teams reach the final with A2 being crowned Premiers, C1 losing by the barest of margins and A and C2 valiant and courageous in defeat. Congratulations to the A2 boys, well deserving Champions who played in the right spirit, led by Captain AJ Cook, your performance was outstanding and by performing at the level you did, you helped drive the A Grade boys to perform at their best each week. 2012/13 ushered in a new Captain for A Grade in Scott Griffin and a new attitude within the club, Scott and his senior players drove this attitude, a attitude of one club, a family club. The whole squad performed magnificently both on and off the field and under Scotts tutelage this team showed what mateship and heart coupled with ability can do. Whilst the lads fell short of a Premiership I have no doubt that this season will be to catalyst to a long and successful era for our A Grade. The B1s led by Brad Briggs and B2s led by Andrew Endicott had successful years that promised more than a Semi Final exit at various points throughout the year both sides appeared to be front runners. Both squads should never the less be proud of what they achieved and the part they played in the clubs success. The C1, self proclaimed Berowra Barnacles had their best year in a long time, perhaps the change in leadership was the catalyst here as their long suffering captain stepped aside to allow some young blood in the form of Mark Adams step up to the plate and with a fresh approach he took them to within 2 runs of the premiership. Our C2 team also fell one win short, led by Roy Caldwell, this team of more, shall we say, experienced players, really personified the culture of mateship, they played as a team and celebrated and commiserated as a team, if ever there was a side that I could point to say Thats the culture I want in the club this team is it. Our D Grade, robbed at the post, a great mix of youth and experience, a wonderful season, led by Des Bidgood, this side is the gateway to the young players coming through to get their start playing against grownups, to blood the future generation of A Graders and from what I saw this year the clubs future is in good hands. 2012/13 saw the BCC field junior teams across all age groups from u/8s through U/14s and a u/16s. There were some wonderful performances both individually and across the teams, highlighted by U/14s who tied their Semi Final in what was an exciting game that twisted and turned

right up to the last ball and were knocked out on count back due to finishing behind eventual Premiers, Pennant Hills, at the end of the preliminary rounds. Our Milo cricket participant numbers continued to be solid and it was heartening to see a number of past BCC representatives down there at Berowra Oval helping Milo Coordinator, Phil Reid. The next generation of superstars are in great hands. My thanks goes to all those parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters, uncles and aunts who coached, managed, scored, umpired, drove kids to and from the ground and brought tea and biscuits for morning tea. You are all an integral part of the clubs success and without you the club would not be in the strong position it is in today. I would also like to thank all those boys who stepped up into the senior ranks this year and filled in against the big boys. To Michael Parker, thank you for all your great work. This was Michaels first year as Junior Coordinator and I thought he did a fantastic job. You are an invaluable asset to the club. It was due to Michaels dedication and sacrifices that this season was one of the smoothest I can remember. A big thank you to all those hard working committee members, without your support, loyalty and sacrifices we would not be the pinnacle of strength that we are today, words cannot convey how proud and honoured I am to be part of this great team. Finally, thank you to the Major Sponsors, Berowra RSL and Berowra Tavern for support again this year, without your support we would not be where we are today. I look forward to 2013/14 and seeing the BCC continue to grow and develop into the strongest club we can be, it will be hard to top the season just gone however I am confident that we will do just that. Milo In2CRICKET Report

The 2012/13 MILO in2CRICKET season has come to another successful conclusion. Our groups have all made impressive developments in their cricketing ability with an enthusiastic and committed group of coaches and helpers. I have had the pleasure of witnessing children develop their catching, throwing and other fundamental movement skills through to some more cricket specific skills and games including batting, bowling and even the essential knowledge of pitch inspections! The childrens participation in the program has the primary intention of helping kids learn how to play cricket. However it is always impressive watching the children develop their social interactions, physical abilities and sportsmanship as well! The highlight for me as a coordinator has, above all else, been the interactions between the kids and the parents who have joined in. Its a fantastic sight on a Saturday morning watching parents and their siblings working together with their teammates to learn and engage with the program. Berowra Cricket Club Training Facility Reports

The BCC now enjoys spectacular new training facilities at Berowra Public School, Wideview Public School and Warrina St Oval. Over the last twelve months, significant improvements have been made to training facilities on all three sites, made available by funding from State Government grants and funds raised by the BCC in recent seasons. The pre-existing concrete nets at Berowra Public School benefited from a major face lift (see next page for more details), whilst two new pitches were laid in the nets at Wideview Public School, and the run ups at Warrina St Oval were extended by over seven metres. On top of this, Action Indoor Sports Mt Kuringgai opened, which also proved a fantastic alternative to our outdoor facilities.

BEROWRA PUBLIC SCHOOL NETS The Club has always struggled for sufficient practice facilities. Even in the 1970s the BCC was writing to Hornsby Council asking for their support to secure suitable locations to hold their junior and senior club practices. This lack of practice facilities in recent seasons, as the Club has had significant and sustained membership growth to around between 400 and 450, reached a point where action had to be taken. Hornsby Shire Council was again contacted but proved little help with the main obstacle trying to identify a suitable location for development of new cricket nets. So the Cricket Club did a deal with Berowra Public School where they would pay for the replacement of their old school nets and in return the school would allow the cricketers, junior and senior members, access to the new nets outside school hours. The next challenge was to raise the $40K required for the work. The Executive looked at a number of ideas the best being to host a trivia night, raffle and silent auction at Berowra RSL. The attendance for the fundraiser night were excellent and over $8,000 was raised for the cause. At the same time the Club was successful in securing a $1,000 grant from the Commonwealth Bank. The Club also applied for a State Government Community Building Benefits grant and around 12 months later this was also successful. The new local State MP, Matt Kean presented the club with a $40,000.00 cheque for the project. With the grant funding and monies already raised it meant not only could the Cricket Club complete the replacement of the Berowra Public School nets but also repair the two nets at Wideview and upgrade the run ups at the two nets at Warrina St. Oval. Crucially this gave the Club access to three different but local quality cricket practice locations from the start of the 2012/13 season and going forward.

Nathan Tilbury Life Member (Inducted 2013)

The BCC Executive unanimously agreed that Nathan Tilbury was worthy of BCC Life Membership and deemed it appropriate to publicly present it to him at our 2012/13 Presentation Evening. Mick Vincent, the man Tillers passed the BCC presidency onto, presented the badge to Tillers with the assistance of long-serving BCC Life Member, John McQuillan. A (very) brief summary of Nathans feats with the BCC are listed below. BCC Junior 7 seasons (1980/81-1986/87). BCC Senior 16 seasons (7 as captain). Vice President 2004/05. President 2005/06-2010/11. Junior Coordinator 2007/08. Club Secretary 2009/10, 2010/11. Senior Coordinator 2005/06-2011/12. Sponsorship Coordinator 2011/12. Premiership winning captain C3 (2007) & C2 (2008). Took the BCC from a dubious position and was pivotal in providing a sustainable financial buffer. Grew the number of senior teams from 4 senior and 8 junior teams in 2004/05 to 12 senior and 13 junior in 2010/11. Entered BCC sides in two winter cricket divisions in 2011 and a Masters team in 2008/09. Raised clubs profile through club website, the newsletter The Cover Drive and local newspapers The Bush Telegraph and The Advocate. Incorporated the BCC and overhauled the constitution. Collated the history of Berowra Cricket Club (and the wider Berowra community) and published a detailed book From the Northern End. For further details, please see the next page. Driving force behind government grants for net overhauls around Berowra.
Nathan stepped down as BCC President after the 2010/11 season to stand for HK&HDCA President, where he has just started his third term. Nathan also gained election as an A Ward Hornsby Councillor in 2012. Nathan passed on the club in a healthy state to the current executive committee, who are working hard on taking the club even further forward. Nathans legacy with the BCC will live on for many years to come. The BCC Junior Fielding award is awarded in Nathans name. The Berowra Cricket Club would like to take this chance to thank Nathan for his great service to the club over the past thirty plus years and hopes to maintain a close working relationship for many more years to come.

From the Northern End

Tillers has released the third edition of his book From the Northern End which is bigger, better and has even more information on the cricket club and wider Berowra community than ever. The book should be of interest to anyone whos had any involvement with Berowra Cricket Club or the wider sporting and Berowra communities over the past 60 plus years. The book includes match reports, statistics, anecdotes, the history of Berowra and cricket in the area, plus hundreds of pictures taken over the years. A reminder that orders for the book can be placed with Michael Parker at Berowra Post Office at any time. The book costs $40 and is worth every cent.
Club Captain Scott Griffin

For the first time this season, the BCC elected a club captain, a position of added responsibility where the person elected would lead not only A Grade, but assist in selections of all senior grades, attend executive meetings and help up and coming juniors progress their games. The BCC Executive unanimously elected 21 year old Scott Griffin as the inaugural club captain. Scott competently fulfilled all duties asked of him and achieved success both on and off the field. Scott led the A Graders to a grand final and will be hoping to take the side one further next season. Scott also enjoyed individual success with a total of 392 runs and 32 wickets this season. 2012/13 Functions
Season Launch On Sunday August 26, the BCC held its first official season launch to unveil the new Major Sponsor, Berowra RSL Club. The season launch took place on the Clubs new Sky Deck, and they were kind enough to put on a barbecue lunch for our members. The BCC used this opportunity to introduce the 2012/13 committee, announce the captains for the upcoming season and to present the new Club Captain, Scott Griffin.
Christmas Drinks On Saturday, December 22, the BCC held informal Christmas drinks on the Skydeck at Berowra RSL Club. Over 50 players were in attendance for a great night, capped off by a late night Royal Rumble between Brad Rayner and Murray Thompson. Most people had lost interest before a winner was declared.
Mad Monday For the daring and those who recovered in time from grand final night shenanigans, traditional Mad Monday festivities were hosted by our sponsors Berowra Village Tavern and Berowra RSL. The theme of the day was Semi Formal, the top half of the attire being formal, the bottom half, not so formal! The beers were cold and the less said about the day, the better. Congratulations to Brody The Wiz Collier, who won the inaugural BCC Mad Monday Darts championship, after demolishing Nathan The Gorilla Elder in front of a 30-strong crowd.

Doug Walters & Mal Johnston at Berowra RSL Club.

On Saturday, 13th August, Test Cricket legend Doug Walters and jockey Miracle Mal Johnston stopped by Berowra RSL as part of their Happy Punters Tour around NSW. Over 50 Berowra Cricket Club members attended the function and were entertained by tales told by the two legends.

Former Test Cricketer & Coach Peter Philpott Visits the BCC
On Thursday, 27th September, former Australian Test cricketer and coach, Peter Philpott dropped into the newly refurbished Wideview Public School nets to conduct a specialist spin bowling session with ten fortunate Berowra Cricket Club juniors who took a lot out of the session. Peter ran through the basic technique of spin bowling, the importance of turning the ball, spending hour after hour in the nets and the mindset required to succeed as a spin bowler. Peter Philpott played eight test matches for Australia, but was unfortunately competing with great Richie Benaud for the coveted leg-spin spot. Peter went on to become an esteemed coach, striking associations with Australia, NSW, South Australia, Sri Lanka, Yorkshire, Surrey and continues to work with Sydney Grade clubs. Peter was a mentor to Stuart MacGill in his playing days and is a renowned cricket journalist. We hope to strengthen our relationship with Peter in season 2013/14. BCC is now on Facebook!

In July 2012, the BCC became one of the first clubs in HK&HDCA to launch its own Facebook page. Since its launch, the BCC Facebook page has gone on to become the talking point of HK&HDCA, proving to be the most popular page of its kind. The Facebook page provides weekly match updates, highlights senior and junior player achievements, anecdotes, action shots, team shots, player profiles, lookalikes the lot!! Be sure to like our page if you havent already.
Action Indoor Sports Mt Kuring-Gai

Last year, Austin Morey, the former owner of AIS Thornleigh moved his indoor sports business to Mt Kuring-gai. In this time, the BCC has enjoyed a close working relationship with Austin who has been very generous in his support for the BCC. The centre hosts indoor cricket, soccer, netball and action-ball competitions, has cricket nets, bowling machines, specialist coaching, KidsPlay, Learn to Swim & Aqua Aerobics classes. The staff and facilities are great and its important the BCC members continues to support the centre in the same way it has supported us.

Berowra Cricket Club at Northern District CC

Berowra Juniors, George Blackwood and Albert Watts were joined by 2011/12 A Grader Pat Murton in trying their hand at Grade cricket with Northern District CC this season. 15 year old all-rounder, George Blackwood enjoyed a groundbreaking first senior season at NDs in 2012/13. George was appointed Green Shield captain and led the side to the minor premiership. George played a lone hand in the quarter final, hitting a classy 80* in a total of 175 and picking up figures of 2/31, which unfortunately saw the side bow out. George finished the Green Shield season with 328 runs @ 65.60 and 14 wickets @ 10.71. These astounding figures saw George selected in the combined SGC Green Shield XI. George started the regular season in 4th Grade, where he was presented with few opportunities to impress. When dropped to 5th Grade in Round 3, George showed the charisma weve come to expect with him, striking a classy 107 at number 3, and took advantage of his first opportunity to showcase his swing bowling, finishing with a cool 6/22. George enjoyed the remainder of the season in 4th Grade, finishing the grade season with a total of 570 runs @ 33.53 and 34 wickets at 12.91 16 year old opening batsman, Albert Watts returned for his second stint in 5th Grade this season. Albert got off to a flying start, producing impressive scores of 28, 98 and 35 in the opening three rounds. Albert fell just short of a maiden Grade ton, as he was run out a couple shy of the century in Round 2 against ManlyWarringah! Astonishingly, Albert went one better during the week at school cricket, when he ran himself out for 99 this time. In the weeks following his flying start to the season, Albert received limited opportunities to impress as he was moved between grades. This unfortunately resulted in Albert having one bat over the next six weekends. Albert regained form towards the latter part of the season, finishing with a score of 52 in Round 15 vs eventual runners up St George. 23 year old Pat Murton produced an impressive return in season 2012/13, bamboozling batsmen with his leg-breaks and chipping in with his limited opportunities with the bat. Murto also got his campaign off to a flyer, claiming statistics of 4/78 in fourth grade and subsequently received a promotion to 3rd Grade where he produced a tidy 2/39. Despite these figures, Murto found himself back in 4th Grade where he was respected as one of the competitions premier bowlers. Murto finished the season with 28 wickets @ 23.11, with an impressive economy rate of 2.91 for a legspinner. Murtos highlights included an 8 wicket match against Mosman in Round 11 and picking up 4 wickets in the semi-final defeat to St George. The Berowra Cricket Club would like to congratulate the three young cricketers on successful seasons with Northern District CC. We wish them all the best for the 2013/14 season, which hopefully will present itself with great opportunities for the three lads to capitalise on. We look forward to seeing all three of you back with the BCC down the track!

Berowra Cricket Club: Senior Report

From the Vice President
2012/13 was a terrific year for the Berowra Cricket Club (BCC). We fielded 9 senior teams (7 Saturday and 2 Sunday teams ) with 6 of our 7 Saturday teams making the semi finals- only rain denied our D grade team from making it 7 out of 7. Four of the 6 teams went on to make their respective grand finals with congratulations to AJ Cooks Kookaburra Cup team on taking out the premiership in a nail biter at the home of cricketBerowra Oval. What was really noticeable this year is the strong Club spirit and culture being developed. All Captains are to be commended for their efforts this year with special mention to Will Fiedler, in his first year as Senior Co-ordinator, for his tireless efforts in working with the team Captains to ensure that strong teams were fielded each weekend throughout the 7 grades. Early indications are that with our u16`s team transitioning from junior to seniors next season that we will exceed the 7 senior Saturday teams we fielded this year in the 2013/14 season. Thank you to our terrific sponsors Berowra RSL and the Berowra Tavern for their generosity. They have supported a number of functions this season with the RSL hosting the season launch & Doug Walters / Malcolm Johnston dinner and the Berowra Tavern hosting nearly 200 junior BCC parents and players at last Sundays BCC junior presentation day. We look forward to partnering with these two great sponsors again in 2013/14. We are also close to securing a further major sponsorship for the coming season which we will announce at the AGM. Finally, I would like to thank the BCC Executive, led by our President Mick Vincent. We had 3 new members join our Executive this season Doug Foster, who took the Sponsorship Officer role by the throat, Murray Thompson-our new Treasurer(special thanks to our Life Member, Marty Lindsay for establishing the strong financial framework we now have before he handed over the reins )and first year Club and A grade Capt Scott Griffin. Everyone pulled together, spread the workload and took ownership of their areas of responsibility. This was a primary reason for our on field success this year. Already looking forward to 2013/14. Senior Report: Will Fiedler

Season 2012/13 saw a new challenge for me as I stepped into the Senior Coordinators role for the first time. My main objectives for this season were to bring all senior teams closer together as one club, for every side to play finals cricket, introduce some new juniors into the senior ranks and to win an A Grade premiership. For the first time in BCCs history, A Grade, A2s & B1s operated smoothly as one squad, which I consider the biggest achievement for the club this season. The three sides finished in the top three of their respective competitions, with A Grade finishing close runner ups and A2s finishing Premiers. I think the close relationship between the sides was pivotal in the clubs success this season, and my sincere gratitude goes out to Scott Griffin, AJ Cook and Brad Briggs, without whom none of this would have been possible. A big thank you is also extended to all players who cooperated and conducted themselves with patience during a season that saw a massive change in structure. Congratulations are in order for B2, C1 and C2 Grades on playing finals cricket this season. Well done to Roy Caldwell & Mark Adams who captained their sides to grand finals in their first seasons as captain. Special mention must go out to Mark Jones, the B2 skipper for his organisation and commitment this season, despite his wife, Angela, falling pregnant and his squad being frustratingly unavailable! Condolences to D Grade who were robbed of a finals berth by a Round 14 wash out. It was fantastic to see some new juniors make their BCC debuts in the senior ranks. The debutantes this season included Mark Tobin, Liam Tobin, Dan Jones, Joe Robinson and Hayden Baxter who all performed bravely when called upon in the senior grades. A special mention must go to Mark Tobin who put on an unbeaten twenty run stand for the 10th wicket with Callum Birrell to get B Grade over the line against St Ives in Round 4. I thank them and their parents for their assistance this season. When I took on the role, I was told the job was thankless, time consuming and frustrating, and it proved to be just that. A Grade Report In 2012/13 Berowra A grade aimed towards the future and wanted to make sure they had cemented their top 4 position before the last round. The A grade squad was the full of youth including players such as Cam Roberts (22), Sam Watts (18), Max Sleeman (22), Scott Griffin (22), Brad Fiedler (18), Will Fiedler (20), Murray Watts (21), Francois Perrin (23), James Fiedler (23) and Jack Smallhorn (23) but also had a sprinkling of vital experience including Nath Elder, Grant Reid, Andrew Rayner, Rick Dakic, David Steptoe, Mick Steptoe, Phil Reid and Matt Owers. From our 14 scheduled matches we had 7 wins, 4 draws (2 Wash outs) and 3 losses. These results throughout the season guaranteed that we would be playing finals before round 13 commenced. Max Sleeman and Andrew Rayner both scored 300+ runs whilst Murray Watts, Will Fiedler and Scott Griffin all bagged 25+ wickets. This year was all about developing the A grade and A2s teams into a tight squad and this progress could be seen by all when both teams made it in to their respective grand finals. Every player from the A grade team stood up at some stage during the season and instead of having an outstanding few players, we had an outstanding team. Our success came with both bat and ball throughout the season with ten 50s being scored (Sleeman 4, Rayner 3, Smallhorn 1, Griffin 1, M Watts 1) and five 5 wicket hauls (W Fiedler 2, Griffin 2, M Watts 1). Throughout the season we beat nearly every team including the 2012/13 premiers and the two teams we didnt beat were both saved by Mother Nature. On behalf of the team I would like to thank and congratulate the retiring Nathan Elder on a fantastic A grade career. In my short career Nathan has been the most knowledgeable and sharp player I have played alongside and was able to transform every bowler he spoke to over the years. He has also added so much to the culture of the side and although we stumbled at the last hurdle this season, the premierships we win in the future are as much his as any other player in the XI. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate the club and my fellow players from A Grade to D Grade on such a successful year. The club as a whole is moving in a positive direction and I would encourage every player to mix with each other at presentation night and make an effort to get down to the club training sessions next year as it is a great opportunity for all players to mix and improve on our growing club culture. A GRADE FINAL Umpires Report Venue: Mark Taylor Oval Umpires: Geoff Hasler and Barry McDonald
The Minor Premiers and defending premiers, West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook versus the second placed Berowra team set the scene for a well credentialed A Grade Final, played at Mark Taylor Oval. The toss was won by James Makin, captain of the WPHC side, who had no hesitation in electing to bat on a superb surface and fast outfield. Whilst the sun was out early i the day, the forecast warned of scattered showers, which, in fact, interrupted play twice during the days play. The top scorer in A Grade, Sol Thomlinson and James Makin opened the innings and played patiently throughout BCC Captain Scott Griffin dismissing WPHC Captain James Makin, caught behind the first hour, to reach the drinks break at by Jack Smallhorn in the A Grade Final. Spin was introduced, with Will Fiedler joining the attack, and claiming the valued wicket of Thomlinson for 42 with the total at 64. Gavin Taylor joined his captain and the flashy Taylor accelerated the run rate before falling to the now spin attack of Griffin for 33, with the total at 101. Makin departed soon after, Griffin again the bowler, having batted very patiently for his 29 runs, and Ham and Newman commenced a productive partnership, punishing any loose deliveries, before Ham was out to a superb outfield catch by Perrin from Fiedlers bowling. Three more wickets fell rapidly, bringing the WPHC batting to a halt, with the score tumbling to 7-163, with Will Fiedler taking three of the four wickets. The reliable late order of Matt Jobson, Peter Stott and Scott Henderson worked diligently to take the score past the 200 mark and to a final total of 225 from 89 overs, a formidable total in any final. Fiedler was the most successful of the Berowra bowlers, taking 4-73 from his 26 overs, however, he was well supported by Scott Griffin (2), and Murray Watts, Francois Perrin and Sam Watts, each taking a wicket. Encouraged by the excellent wicket and fast outfield, the Berowra side were confident that they were up to the task of chasing the 226 runs needed for victory and possession of the prestigious Rofe Trophy. However, nightwatchman, Will Fiedler was bowled by Jobson in the second over of the innings, and the first days play was completed with Berowra 1-3. Page 23 -

Sundays weather was warm and sunny, the pitch hard and fast, thus the contest was to proceed in superb conditions to a result fought out in the centre. The WPHC attack of Spalding and Jobson used the pace of the pitch well and the Berowra pair of Dakic and Smallhorn were under pressure from the first ball. Spalding used his height and pace to great effect and the persistent Jobson was rarely off the stumps. Jack Smallhorn was out caught by Taylor behind the wicket from a deadly bouncer from Spalding, leaving Berowra at 2-16. Ric Dakic was joined by the stoic Grant Reid, who played straight and defended well against a persistent bowling attack. Stott and Henderson took over the attack and immediately following the drinks break, Stott picked up the previously patient Dakic from a top edge, and Berowra were struggling at 3-40. Stott struck again, dismissing Owers for a duck, Reid followed almost immediately to Henderson, and Griffin was caught behind by keeper Bennett, to see Berowra go to the lunch break five down and needing well over 150 to claim the title. Andrew Rayner and Sam Watts resumed after the break and batted with great determination, with the strength of Rayner very apparent when he hit a six out of the post code, and the young Sam Watts supported well scoring heavily behind square. Henderson continued to bowl aggressively and following a partnership of some 47 runs, had Rayner caught by Sam Baidya to take Berowra to 7-101. Sam Watts was joined by Murray Watts in a determined effort to reach the 125 runs required for victory and progressed the score to 133, certainly building the hopes of their team, when Henderson intervened with a superb Yorker to send Murray Watts back to the sheds and bring the WPHC side in sight of the win. The experienced Nathan Elder, playing his last game prior to his retirement, joined Sam Watts, before Sol Thomlinson, also the leading wicket taker in A Grade for the season removed Sam for 42, the score having moved to 9-145, thus a last wicket stand of 81 was needed to bring the Berowra side to a winning score. Nathan Elder was bowled by the returning Spalding. Berowra being all out for 145. Scott Henderson was the best of the WPHC attack, taking 443 from his 13 overs, ably supported by Stott and Spalding, each taking two wickets, with Jobson and Thomlinson grabbing one. Whilst the scores imply an easy victory to the WPHC team, the match had been fluctuating throughout, and the stubborn resistance of the late order batsmen from WPHC certainly made a great contribution to the target presented to the Berowra team. Having lost 6 wickets for 54, the Berowra middle order fought hard to rescue the mission, and certainly brought their team back into the contest through great determination and was responsible for a few worried looks from the West Pennant Hills players.

However, the bowlers took up the challenge and the WPHC team were deserved victors and retained the A Grade Premiership and the magnificent Rofe Trophy. A GRADE FINAL GRONKS REPORT During the season the spoils were shared against WPH and the final was tipped to be a close contest. Scotty lost the toss and WPH decided to bat on run way 2 at Waitara which was as bare as Gronks head. Scotty and Muzz bowled with no luck as WPH played and miss a gazillion times where a few edges dropped short of slips and one went over/ between slips (it didn't go near first slip). Will claimed the first wicket with the score on 65 with the Elk taking a sharp chance. We then missed a few chances including Will, who wanted a 10 for in the GF so deliberately dropped a chance. At 1 for 100 the batsman were told they had been kissed on the dick by the luck fairy and a few balls later were 2 for 100. Scotty saw Will getting wickets bowling loopy spin and thought anyone can get wickets bowling offies and the twin spin claimed a few wickets at either end including a juggled catch to Muzz in the deep (which is still a fine) and the Bulgarian calmly catching a massive bomb in the deep. We claimed 4 for 11 in the middle of the dig and at 7 for 163 we were in with a big chance. WPH's tailed wagged and were bowled out for 225, a great result after the start they had. Sam, Brady, Muzz took a wicket each, Scotty 2 and Will 4 with a run out to Rayner and Smalls took 3 catches. The highlight of the innings was Muzz at deep mid wicket allowing a skied catch off Will to hit the fence on the full so he could win the bowling Murray Watts letting one fly. A1 Grand Final v WPHC. Photo: Guy Sherlock award. We had 8 minutes to bat on Day 1 and Will was sent in with Rick. They wasted more time than an Omani soccer player (which Rick might be one of them) to ensure only 2 overs were bowled but Will was bowled in the second over so we ended the day 1 for 3. Smalls fell early on day 2 and then Gronk and the "Omani" (not Armani) batted through to drinks where we looked good at 2 for 40. Not sure what was in our drinks as we lost 3 for not many straight after drinks. Rayner hit a huge six and a car which I thought was worth a bonus 80 runs but unfortunately we were denied and Rayner fell for 30 after a promising partnership with Sammy. The Watts brothers tried to run each other for a while until Muzz was bowled. Sam made his highest score of the season of 42 which augers well for 2013/14 season. A Cinderalla story was set up for the Gorilla to spank a 50 in his last game in A grade but alas the fairy tale didn't eventuate and we hope his retirement doesn't eventuate. We were all out for 145 although the scoreboard strangely kept going up every 15 minutes after the game until we were 265. A great season for the team which I'm confident will be built upon in 2013/14

A2 Grade Report The A2 season was a successful campaign with a lot of the players coming off a grand final loss in b-grade last year. Round one saw us face off against that grand final team and convincingly dominate with the bat. This performance provided plenty of positives for the season ahead. But it wasn't so much out batting but rather our bowlers ability to defend totals that took us to success this season. We stumbled early on after round one mostly due to injury and unavailabilitys preventing us to field a full side. Mention must be made of Nick McNay who happily filled in; playing both his junior and our senior games on a number of occasions, and certainly held his own in our team with both bat and ball and put us all to shame in the field. Players coming in and out of the side were a regular occurrence throughout the season and each week seemed a different 11 on paper, but held together on the field like we had played together for years. Some new talent was found through the firefly bowling of Brody 'the whiz' Collier and the aggressive batting and leg spin of Matt Owers. From round 4 we remained undefeated and each and every player provided performances of match winning proportions. We were neck and neck with WPHCCC for the minor premiership, trading places on top before flooded run-ups saw us claim second place by 1 point! There were a lot of moments throughout the season that I will never forget, some that I wish I could such as JJ 'talco' Sleeman stripping on the boundary, JJ then fielding the rest of the game going commando, JJ not washing his whites for the whole season even though he had gone commando and finally JJ shouldering arms to a straight one on his first ball of the GF. And of course there were moments I will want to remember forever such as Marty Lindsay and Liam Burrell's partnership in round one, Smallhorns ridiculous excitability behind the stumps and with the bat, Damos chat and amazingly economic bowling, Bubs return to cricket with some sensational batting, Reidy's 4 for none on his return, Tippas top order dominance, Liam's gritty game saving batting performances and handy glove work, James' ability to look like Patrick Swayze and his return to Berowra cricket in style with skilful batting in tough situations, Brody's 7 for 14, Brads ability to turn it on in finals cricket with bat and ball, Maccas locks as he strides into bowl and his 6 hitting abilities, the batsmens face when Francois 'Greg Brady' Perrin bowls a short one, Micka's dominate innings' and 'that catch' (we don't know how you did it either mate), Dougs inspiring spells and team talks, Cams ability to dictate a game from the top order and his ability to resemble a wall (almost) in short cover, Owers' right angled deliveries and sensational timing, JJ's 67

with shots all around the park and finally that moment where we raised the trophy as a team together after winning the grand final. Special thanks must go to all of the friends and family that came to our games and supported us throughout the season. I would like to personally thank each and every player for their contributions, we became a very close bunch of mates by the end and I look forward to playing with you guys in the future. Berowra has some amazing talent in the ranks and I am predicting some very big seasons ahead. It has been an absolute pleasure leading the side this year, a year I will never forget. Wear the baggies proud! AJ Cook A2 Captain A2 FINAL AJS REPORT The Grand Final saw us up against the minor premiers (by 1 point!) at Berowra oval, the home of cricket. Winning the toss, AJ elected to bat on a deck that looked good and knowing runs on the board in Grand Finals takes the pressure off. It didn't look like we would have many on the board though when JJ 'Talco' Sleeman, Tim 'The Cowboy' Weston and Patrick Swayze all went for naught, leaving us at 3-11 after 5 overs. Brad 'Binga' Fiedler walked out to meet Cammo, who said they locked eyes with steely determination and went about rebuilding the innings. Brad went about it by edging the ball to Mr Pick & Choose at first slip who kindly chose not to pick that one and dropped it cold. Cam and Brad went on to put a 80 run partnership together with some gritty batting and great stroke play. Cam fell for 34 bringing Mick 'the reptile' Steptoe to the crease. Playing within himself Micka was looking good and stuck around with Brad before he fell for 49. Mick was dropped by Pick&Choose at 1st as well early and made them pay hitting 30 before falling. The Wiz was cleaned up next ball, and who better to face a hatrick ball than DK with his rock solid defence. AJ fell soon after bringing Macca to the crease. Who would have seen this coming? First ball 6! And from there, the grand final specialist took apart the bowling attack for a vital 31* and a last wicket stand for 40 well supported by Damo at the other end. 182 was the total, a very competitive one in a grudge match GF. We took the Field with the job in mind and fire in our bellies and Macca and Brad wasted no time getting the new ball to crash the stumps as their openers fell in quick succession, Keating looking to put Brad over the fence on a good length and Pick&Choose not taking his own advice playing all around a brilliant Macca inswinger. I've never seen more plays and misses in a team innings than I saw in this one and a wagon wheel to match with runs through the slips and gully. It wasn't long before Brad struck again by striking the gloves, a ball lobbing nicely to Tippa who needed two grabs at it, nearly making a meal of it. Collier the Wiz got a very important LBW to get rid of their top scorer and Macca got one to straighten off the edge and into Brads hands at second. 5 wickets down and about 2

overs remaining we didn't let up. Not even on the last ball of the day where Maccas hooping inswing managed to force a bat pad right to the reptile basking in the afternoon sun at short leg to make them 6 down for 90 at the end of play. With two fresh batsmen at the crease on Sunday we were confident of an early breakthrough, but we made it hard for ourselves, dropping a bunch of chances, Macca even helping one to the fence and helped shatter Cammos pinky by offering some nice half volleys for the batsmen to drive into him at short cover. But just when their partnership was really looking to hurt us, AJ managed to get a rank half tracker to stay an inch off the deck to claim the 7th wicket with the score on 138. Collier produced a brilliant spell removing the other half of the partnership with an edge to Brad and then clean bowled their number 10. With one wicket to get and a 30 run buffer their number 11 batted positively to put them into the game. The new ball was taken after 65 overs with 15 runs to get. Brody found some extra pace with it to finally end the innings with an LBW just before lunch. The celebrations were huge, but work was still to be done to ensure WPHCCC didn't have a chance of outright. Talco avoided a king pair with runs off his first ball and Tippa went about his business with a sensational opening knock of 75* with Brad and Micka chipping in with a solid 30 each to put the game out of reach and the trophy and champagne in our hands!

B Grade Report The 2012/13 season saw a completely different B Grade side take the field after the previous teams seasons success saw them push up a grade. Despite the youthful make-up of this seasons team, their seniors cricket experience stacked up to any other with a host of players playing A Reserves the previous year. The team also saw a few mates returning to club, as well as a couple of ex A Graders in Tristan Jones and Brad Apps getting the hunger back to have a few runs in seniors once again. The blokes that made up this team, though coming from all parts, were able to jell and have a good time playing cricket, making this year (personally), one of the most enjoyable years I've played in. Early results were really encouraging for the side as we chased down 247 in round 3 against Kenthurst and 230 against St Ives in round 4. From there we pushed on slipping up only against 2 sides over the Christmas and new year period - these being the 2 sides who would go on and make the grand final - Sydney Lions and Galston-Glenorie. One of the more pleasing things this year was that as a team we performed across the board, something which teams I've played in in recent times haven't been able to do as well. Five Players scored north of 180 runs and four took 12 wickets or more and generally it was someone different putting their hand up in each game. Though no one stood overall out it was performances as a unit that kept us wining games. A few missed weeks of cricket due to wash outs might have contributed to us losing focus in our round 13 clash with Hornsby, which we went down in - the only time we would lose to a team lower then us on the table all year. This loss saw us finish 3rd and not being able to dictate terms in the semi which we unfortunately also went down in. Despite the sour end to the cricket season I have no doubts that the Berowra B Grade side will have great success in the coming years. Once again; Smithy, Chopper, Collins, Timmy, Braddo, Potsy, Tobes, Appsy, TJ, Rizza, Baskin, Caltex, McMonies, Kissick, Big Marn and Boyce, It's been a ripper year with you lads! B2 Grade Report After a season that promised a GF appearance and maybe even a flag, we sadly fell one game short which as it turned out, was probably a true reflection of where we sat in the comp. Against the middle of the road and lower ranked sides, we were ruthless, scoring some big wins and an outright early in the piece. But against the two top teams, ARL & WPH who went on to contest the final, we were outplayed in all 4 encounters. We should have accounted for WPH easily enough, losing a solitary contest with them when chasing a total of just over 200 and with them only having 8 guys in the field. That was a bad loss and the turning point for our season, because as it turned out if we had won that game, we would have won the minor premiership and then been in a better situation come the business end. But as it turned, in the tough games against the tough teams, we lacked that mental edge to get over the line. No better example than against ARL where we absolutely capitulated on two of the three occasions we met and being soundly beaten in the other. Perhaps the biggest issue we faced was availabilities. With our best 11 on the park, we were the match of any other side, but losing our three best Bats before Christmas, Sumi who returned to India, Pete Onions who got stitched up with work (although did make it back for 2 late season games) and then Penga who did his knee meant we just didnt have the gas to win the big games if the guys left didnt absolutely fire. With that said, we did have a good year & the side shared plenty of laughs along the way. With our tails up early in the season, we took to YouTube to share our exploits with AJs classic home video reels providing countless hours of gags. Movies destined for the Cannes film festival like Skyfall & Bored The movie were regular features when we were winning and grinning but were brought to a screaming halt after the opposition captain in one of the films complained to his mum and we were ordered to the principals office. We moved our attention to court each week instead where fines were summarily handed out for a wide range of issues not including on field performance. Things like, turning up to the game eating hamburgers bigger than your head, or entering the field of play wearing just socks copped maximum penalties, whilst minor indiscretions like, perhaps not walking after edging the ball to second slip copped some minor punishment. The vibe in the team was good & most would say it was one of the more enjoyable seasons they had experienced. As far as performances go, the spoils were pretty well shared. Batting wise, We had 4 guys scoring 200+, Harry leading the way on 252 just ahead of Nick Cook on 225, then Pete Onions & Sumi who notched up 214 & 213 respectively (both scoring the bulk of them before Xmas). Pete Onions got the only ton, with a well made 104 against Hornsby whilst Sumi was out in the 90s against WPH. Bowling was really well spread, evidenced by the fact that nearly everyone who bowled took wickets yet only 4 guys got in to double figures. Myself & Millsy each took 12 whilst AJ took 18 including an 8 for against Hornsby also. The star with ball though was Andy Mr. Cricket Endicott who took 31 scalps. Andy also chipped in with 150 runs and was without doubt our most valuable player. The fact that he got married on a Sunday so he wouldnt miss a Saturday is probably all you need to know about Andy and his commitment to the cause. We wont mention his broken nose 2 weeks out from his wedding nor the fact that he was ready to play again the next week but for rain washing us out. Most of us would have done that!

C1 Grade Report After narrowly missing out on a semi-finals place by just a single point last season, the boys returned refreshed and intent on improving our disappointing 5th place. With the core of our team backing up again, we were to lose some significant batting depth and experience with the departures of Brent Penga Adams and Simon Mr Cricket Lewis through either work or personal commitments. Their departure highlighted a significant void in our top order batting that was at least partially closed with the recruitment of gun batsmen Jamie The Other Jamie Bayliss. In addition, we also recruited the talented youngsters Nick Safe as Houses Raymond to bowl his spinners, Ben Wild Thing Gunther to support Raj and Danny by bowling his quicks, and Jamie Quiet-achiever Briggs in an all-rounder capacity although unfortunately he would not go on and bowl as many overs as originally perceived with the bowling capabilities we had in front of him. We managed to talk out of retirement BCC veteran Karl Nine lives Baxter to become a season fill-in and welcomed BCC newcomer Sam Gouw into the squad. The new season also brought along a change at the helm with BCC President Mick The Vince Vincent deciding to relinquish his position as C1 captain to help out D1s and take the opportunity to play alongside Travis The Mascot Vincent. With the captaining duties now passed over to yours truly, my first game at the helm would be the round 2 clash against Kenthurst. Having won the toss, we decided to have a bat and the decision would immediately backfire with us being dismissed for an awkward 103 which would be chased down with ease. Facing a possibility of an outright on my first outing as captain was thankfully diminished with the 1st century to Jamie Bayliss in the 2nd innings where he made a timely 128. Next round was against Beecroft, which we won convincingly. Round 4 we played against St Ives who despite comfortably beating-us by 50 runs they would be a team that would never really fulfil their potential in the competition. Despite this loss, we were still equal 3rd after 4 rounds and in-fact we would not drop any lower than 3rd-place again throughout the remainder of the season which is a pretty good achievement in itself and testament to the performances by the team and just how well wed played. With the lead-up to Christmas and the festive season, we started to gain some momentum recording two first innings victories against North Shore (Rd 5) and Hornsby (Rd 6) before demolishing cellar dwellers SKLPS in round 7 for a valuable outright win which subsequently propelled us into the #1 spot. In the final game before the Xmas & New Year break we dropped our game with a disappointing loss to WPHC (Rd 8), not the ideal way to end the year. However, with a two week break we could now focus on the festivities and our families. After the Xmas & New Year break we played Kenthurst, and once again were on the wrongside of the result with a 7-wicket loss with them easily chasing down our target of 188 off 40 overs. Moving into the business end of the season, the ladder was now starting to get congested making a win in round 10 vital for us to secure that elusive semi-final spot. Our opponents for this match were Beecroft and after setting us a modest total of 180 off 40-overs we would easily chase it down with 3-wickets in hand after a superb 58 by Jamie Briggs in what was undoubtedly his finest innings of the season. The win would help maintain our momentum and first place. However, we would now share the spoils with Kenthurst. Our round 11 clash was with St Ives and after restricting them to a modest 9/148 the boys successfully chased down the required runs with over 4-overs remaining and with just 2-wickets in hand with the guidance and cool head of Akhil Killa Anund making a valuable 32 no. Our round 12 match against North Shore was another important fixture with results likely to influence table positions given that this was a 2nd vs. 3rd clash. After winning the toss Nth Shore decided to have a bat. After being restricted to 8/98 poor fielding and dropped catches allowed them to go on and make 182 which was extremely disappointing given our dominant position and handle on the game. With only 5-overs remaining in the day, we began our reply and were 0/5 at the close of play. Mother Nature would then have its say with week 2 being a wash out for us and the

points shared. However, Hornsby managed to get on and win against Beecroft which enabled them to leapfrog us into first place. While the prestige of winning the minor premiership was important, for us we were just ecstatic to have qualified for the semi-finals after last years disappointment. Our round 13 clash vs. Hornsby would effectively decide the minor premiership given that we were the two top teams! Winning the toss we put them in to bat and almost immediately it looked like the right decision with Hornsby battling to 8/122 after a menacing spell of spin bowling by young Nick Safe as Houses Raymond collecting his best figures of the season with 6/66 in a dazzling display. With the game seemingly in our complete control we were soon to find ourselves in a similar position like the previous game against Nth Shore where we would again let ourselves down with poor fielding and a dropped catch that on this occasion would allow the #9 batsmen to go on and score 83 and for the 9th and 10th wickets to cost us 104 runs and take Hornsby to a dominant 226 all out. With only a small number of overs to face out, we closed the days play on 2/5 and with it all to do. Unfortunately, day 2 didnt start the way we wanted and with some quick wickets we were soon 4/26. Despite some solid partnerships we would eventually be all out for 186 falling an agonising 40 runs short in a game where we should have only been chasing perhaps 130 or 140. Going into the last round, we still had a chance to win the minor premiership if we could get an outright result and if other results were to go our way. Unfortunately, the weather would wash out both weeks of round 14 which for us guaranteed a second place finish and a home semi-final against Nth Shore! The semi-final saw us up against third placed Nth Shore who we had just managed to sneak past with a 1-wicket win back in round 5. After winning the toss Nth Shore elected to bat. Not unhappy with losing the toss it was a great opportunity to heap pressure on early and with the score on 18 they lost their first wicket and shortly after their second with the score on 22. With the runs hard to come by the third wicket came with the score on 36. Picking up his third Danny The Wizard McGowan soon had 3/20 off his 17 straight overs to complete a magic spell. By tea time Nth Shore had stumbled their way to 7/56 from 39 overs. After a steady rebuild attempt by the lower order, the eighth wicket fell with the score on 74. Some lower order hitting saw the score past the 100 mark and on 112 they lost their ninth wicket and the innings wrapped up with the score on 115. While The Wizard McGowan was the pick of the bowlers, he was backed up by Raj Let me at em Suryanarayana 2/21, Ben Wild Thing Gunther 2/12, and Nick Safe as Houses Raymond 2/37. With only 16 overs to go in the day, it was looking like survival would be a challenge as at the close of day 1 in reply BCC were in all sorts of problems at 4/25 with all four top order batsmen back in the shed and Akhil Killa Anund and Nick Safe as Houses Raymond not out. With a further 91 runs needed with only 6 1st innings wickets in hand, survival would be key early on day 2. Like on the first day a middle order batting collapse saw the overnight total go from 4/25 to 8/35 in just 9 overs. With the innings in tatters and staring down the barrel of defeat it was now down to Raj Let me at em Surayanarayana and Ben Wild Thing Gunther to resurrect the innings and thats exactly what they did with some controlled hitting Raj 44 no. and Ben 38 no. somehow miraculously guided the BCC to an emphatic victory with the BCC 8/119 and a grand-final berth! The 2012/13 C1 grand-final saw us up against the formidable Kenthurst who had our measure in both preliminary rounds earlier in the season. Going into the game, I guess our backs were up against the wall but playing on turf would be a leveller with neither side playing regularly on the surface. While they had finished fourth on the table, theyd beat the minor premiers Hornsby to progress. Game day came and while there were obvious nerves about with a lot of the squad having not played in a grand-final before, the boys were buzzing and chomping at the bit to get out there an amongst it! Winning the toss we asked Kenthurst to have a bat, having finished second and although there were a min 160 overs (min 80 per day) putting them in felt like they had to drive the game to get a result and in doing so add some additional pressure. Our objective was to always win the

game, playing for a draw was never in my mind. Looking for a great start with the pressure on from both ends it wasnt long before we had our first wicket with the score on 2 and the prized wicket of Drummond who had pumped a 100 against us in the one-dayer after Xmas. After a short rebuilding phase we took a second wicket with a great 2nd slip catch to Jamie Bayliss off the bowling of Raj and the score 2/23. With a menacing spell of bowling, Raj soon had his third wicket with the dangerous Gaunt back in the pavilion after another solid catch by Jamie in 2nd slip and Kenthurst now 3/32 from 27 overs. With the Kenthurst middle order rebuilding the innings they slowly reached 64 when Nick Raymond struck with a brilliant caught & bowled to remove the Kenthurst #5 and the score now 4/64. With the score on 75 Nick Raymond picked-up his second wicket with the dismissal of the dangerous Saunders and the score 5/75. With only 1 added to the total, Steve Johnson picks up his first wicket and Kenthurst now 6/76. With some lower order hitting the score reaches 100 and Steve Johnson takes his second wicket and the score now 7/100. With only 4 added to the score Steve Johnson picks up his third wicket and Kenthurst now 8/104. With the score on 118 Danny McGowan picks up his first wicket and with it figures of 15 overs, 9 maidens, 1/9 and the score now 9/118. The innings is complete when the #11 is caught behind off the bowling of Ben Gunther who finishes with 1/20, Steve Johnson 3/26 Nick Raymond 2/23 and Raj Surayanarayana 3/19. Kenthurst bowled out for 123. With a modest target it was now down to our batsmen to chase the 124 needed for 1st innings points with a tricky 10 overs to negotiate before the end of the days play. Opening the batting was Shawn Moloney and Mark Adams. Having made a positive start and having taken the score to 11, Shawn was out caught behind chasing a wide one and the BCC 1/11. With the 10th over of the innings completed and having been successfully negotiated the remaining overs of the day, stumps are pulled on day 1 with the BCC 1/15 needing a remaining 109 to win 1st innings. Looking to slowly build a partnership on the resumption of play, Jamie Bayliss is bowled on the last ball of the first over of day 2 leaving the BCC 2/16 with only 1 run added to the overnight score and the form batsmen back in change sheds. The next wicket falls with Akhil Anund shouldering arms to a ball cannoning into middle stump and is accordingly given out LBW with the score 3/17. Joining me in the middle to rebuild the innings is Andrew Williams and after a steady partnership of 35 and with the score on 52 Andy is caught behind for a solid 19 with the score now 4/52 as Nick Raymond comes to the crease. Before he can trouble the scorers Nick is bowled with the score now 5/56. Joining me in the middle now is Steve Johnson in a hope that we build a partnership and steady the innings, but with the score on 66 Steve Johnson is spectacularly caught and bowled with the score now 6/66. In a steady progression I am the next to be out caught behind for 17 with the score 7/75 and still requiring 49 runs to win with only 3 wickets in hand. Joining Vaman in the middle is Raj the saviour of our semi-final bid and after getting off the mark with a nice boundary adds 26 runs before Raj is caught on the fence and the BCC now 8/101 needing 23 more runs to win. With the score on 106 Ben Gunther is bowled and the ninth wicket goes down for 9/106 and all hope of a victory lie on the shoulders of poor Danny and Vaman with Kenthurst on the verge of a premiership victory. Despite a valiant and courageous effort with a 14 run partnership to take the score up to 120, we fall an agonisingly and heartbreaking 4-runs short of the target when Danny is tragically run out in the cruellest of circumstances. Congratulations must go to Kenthurst for a fantastic win, and for the spirit in which the game was played. Whilst it wasnt the way we had wished to end our season, we can all be proud of our achievements and contributions in getting to a grand-final and thankful for the opportunity to be able to participate. Raj Suryanarayana taking 26 wickets @11.31 including best figures of 6/20 vs. SKLPS (Rd 7 1st inns) and scoring 191 runs @38.2 including a magnificent match winning 44 no. vs. Nth Shore in the semi-final Steve Johnson claiming a hat-trick with 4 wickets in 5 balls and figures of 6/26 (2nd inns) vs. SKLPS (Rd 7) and a staggering 9/48 for the match! Danny McGowan claiming 25 wickets @14.36 with his best figures of 4/24 vs. Hornsby (Rd 6). A fantastic season capped off with an amazing finals (SF/GF) bowling performance where he contributed a total of 32 overs including 15 maidens, taking 4 wickets for only 29 runs, an awesome effort! Nick Raymond claiming 21 wickets @20.10 including a 6/66 vs. Hornsby (Rd 13) and 10 catches, some of which were just mind boggling! Shawn Moloney scoring 270 runs @18.00 including a brilliant 58 vs. WPHC (Rd 8) Gaurav Pupneja scoring a season and BCC career best 63 no. vs. WPHC (Rd 1) Karl Baxter hitting 63 runs on debut vs. SKLPS (Rd 7). Jamie Briggs with a match winning 58 vs. Beecroft (Rd 10) and for his commitment and sportsmanship in the finals. Raj Suryanarayana 44 no. and Ben Gunther 38 no. for their match winning batting performance in the semi-final with their unbeaten 84-run partnership taking us from 8/35 to 8/119 and into the grand-final! Vaman Hegde for his 12 dismissals behind the stumps and general wicket-keeping was solid again with some amazing reflex catches. Akhil Anund for claiming 17 wickets @16.41 and Best Bowling 3/18 vs. Kenthurst (Rd 2)! Karl Baxter and Gaurav Pupneja for their sportsmanship for attending and fielding in the semi-final and grand-final Hayden Baxter (U/13) making his senior debut against Nth Shore in the washed out round 12 match, but not before taking 2/15 off 5 overs!

C2 Grade Report After being defeated by Kissing Point in the final last year by 1 wicket, The 2012/13 season was a year with only one thing on all of the C2 players minds & that was doing one better and winning the premiership. With the loss of our opening bowler Tarun (T-Train) Dhingra unable to play for the season, our bowling attack was not as strong as last year but the rest of the boys backed up from last season & the inclusion of some welcomed youth in Geordie (machine) Boyce moving up from (D grade) added some spark with the bat & on the field. The team started off on the right track defeating St Ives outright with a brilliant 1st innings knock of 92 from Greg (Whoah) Spencer, the highlight. Our bowling was tight with Abi Dewan destroying the middle order with figures of 5/19 in the 2nd day & with all bowlers contributing this was good enough to force St Ives to follow on & an unbeaten 56* from Abi in the 2nd innings sealed the deal. The bar was set high & the Berowra spirit was as well. By round 4 Berowra had 2 wins also defeating Normanhurst in round 2 with good cricket. Roy Caldwell 3/15 & Tim (Thomo) Watts 3/22 with the ball. Batting Roy Caldwell made 50 & also good contributions from Geordie (Machine) Boyce 32 & Abi 34 kept Berowra on top of the table early. The next 2 rounds were quite a different story losing a hand full of players to holidays & injury, we suffered a heavy loss to WPH (blue) & despite Roy nearly making his maiden ton (run out on 93) against Hornsby we would go on to lose our 2nd game with one ball to come to bat out a draw. Leaving Berowra 2 wins & 2 loses and missing a bit of fire power with absent players & falling to 2nd on the ladder. Coming into round 5 we needed some luck on our side, pulling some strings & with the signing of some central coast talent in Trent (Barney) Barnett & Les (Wessy) Kilby as well as Sam (machine 2) Marriot (stepping up from the juniors) back from injury we certainly found that luck. Boosting the batting, bowling & fielding aspects of our game we were back in the winning column, with Trent Barnett showing his class & stamping his authority on arrival smashing an unbeaten 53* & Bhanu (Good Boy) Lanka following suit to belt 40 coming in at number 10 we defeated Kissing Point by 96 runs Tim Watts the pick of the bowlers with figures of 5/42 secured the win. The following 2 matches Berowra would hit a rough patch & even though Roy Caldwell with a captains knock of 76 & Greg Spencer with 42 against Castle Hill, Berowra would not taste victory until round 8 defeating St Ives for the 2nd time & finding ourselves in 3rd place on the ladder going into the Christmas break. Returning to the field in the new year we lost our round 9 clash to Normanhurst but bounced back to show some grit & defeated WPH (blue) in good fashion dominating with the bat Caldwell 71*, Barnett 52 & 4/29 with the ball & Les Kilby 35* which would be our best batting performance for the year 3/199 off 40 overs & beating a good all round side in WPH (blue) rolled for 166 which were by now the bench mark & coming 1st on the ladder. Round 12 was upon us and at this stage with 6 wins & 5 losses every game was vital to make the semi finals. The weather was pretty wet and miserable for the next few weeks and walking away Page 36 -

with a draw on a washout against Kissing Point defeating WPH (red) with highlights of Abi Dewan finding form at the right time with a splendid 95 & Trent Barnett 46, the next match would be yet another washed out game against Castle Hill. Other teams results went in our favour and put us through to the semi finals in 2nd place with a home semi to play Normanhurst for a chance at the title, finishing with 7 wins, 5 losses & 2 draws to end the 14 round regular season. The home semi would be played at Normanhurst Park which denied Berowra of any advantage. As predicted this would turn out to be a fiery match with Normos captain running his mouth as usual & with his poor attitude to the game kicking the ball to the boundary on a couple of occasions & deliberately miss fielding whilst Trent Barnett (making 45) was batting these tactics were to quickly give him his restricted 50 but backfired in his face as the Berowra boys defeated Normanhurst by 9 runs. Tempers flared during the match but well done to the Berowra boys holding their nerve & humiliating the opposition talking with the ball & defeating Normanhurst on their own soil as they put it during the match (this is our house). Les Kilby was fired up and took 6/54 which was the best bowling figures for the year & his personal best for the club & we were through to the final & determined to win the premiership that got away last season. This was by far the most aggressive match of the season but all the fellas would agree also the sweetest victory as well. With players finding some form in the later stages of the competition in the likes of Geordie Boyce, Bernie (Bender) Rorke, Sam (Machine 2) Marriott & Steve (Cougar) Johnston the teams spirit was high & we were going into the big one with confidence & a good vibe. The final was played at Turramurra oval against WPH (blue) we won the toss & sent them in to bat to give us every chance of a win. We attacked at every opportunity we could only to have the home team 4/114 at tea to their credit they batted well as they had all year and with 4 overs remaining in the days play WPH were all out for 208, Abi Dewan best bowling figures with 4/51 & supported by Les Kilby 3/33 with 43 overs between them this was a monumental effort on a hot day, at stumps Berowra were 0/9 needing 200 runs for victory. Day 2 saw the fairy tale ending turn into a disaster when we were up against the ropes early with wickets falling rapidly after 30 overs Berowra was 4/45. With 2 of our top order batsmen given out lbw which were poor calls this swung momentum in WPH favour & ultimately had a huge impact on the match which unfortunately we never recovered from. Steve Johnston battled hard and tried to defy the odds holding the bat for nearly half the day to score a well earned 24 & Bernie Rorke was seeing it like a football & struck the ball beautifully for 44 before being run out pushing for a single to keep the strike in the later stages of the innings. We were finally all dismissed for 116 off 57 overs & reality had kicked in that we had lost 2 consecutive finals & left wondering. I would like to mention despite going down in the final, I am proud of all the boys being as competitive as we were this year & enjoyed captaining a top bunch of blokes throughout the season. Watching Sam Marriott building confidence & seeing him improve with every match was a pleasure to watch and a personal highlight for myself. To wrap things up I would also like to mention the support and team player qualities of Greg (Big Marn) Johnston whos season was shortened plagued with injuries this year but was at every match to help umpire and support the team as well as always having a laugh & refreshments (the good stuff) at the end of most matches for the team. not least Steve Tate who was also injured for a good portion of the year with a hernia operation but supplied food time after time with cooking his famous BBQs at the grounds for all of the fellas & that was much appreciated by everyone thanks very much Tatey. Looking forward to seeing you blokes for another dig next season & try once again to win that premiership that has slipped through our grasp the past 2 seasons, lets make it 3 times lucky. Congratulations to all the lads on a great year, standout performances were Abi Dewan with 27 wickets with @ 13.7 leading the bowling attack for the year, well done mate. Bernie Rorke with 21 wickets & Roy Caldwell with 18 wickets. Top batting performances for the year were Roy Caldwell leading run scorer with 387 runs, Abi Dewan with 339 runs & Trent Barnett made 331 runs (50 run restriction) & the highest average of 36.8. Fielding for the year saw Geordie Boyce take 14 catches (6 as WK), Roy Caldwell 9 catches in the field & Trent Barnett 9 catches (7 as WK) Most improved player in my opinion was Sam Marriott, showing he has plenty of talent to offer and as he matures will be a great asset to any senior team with his lightning fielding and determination with the bat. D1 Grade Report The BCC D Grade team were very unlucky this year, finishing 5th after being in semi final contention right up to the last round. In round 1 we were defeated outright by a team that was subsequently promoted up a grade, this team was never replaced and resulted in a bye round, every team aside from the BCC benefited from having 2 byes and 12 free points, the BCC had only one, this resulted in both the teams finishing 3rd and 4thactually winning less games. The second bad luck story was the last round, when in pouring rain, St Ives failed to chase down a modest 87 against a 9 man Glenorie team, losing by 2 runs. This result catapulted Glenorie from 5th to 3rd (surpassing the St Ives team and relegating them to 4th and the BCC to 5th. This result was a travesty as both teams were soundly beaten in their respective Semi Finals, by Kenthurst and WPH, teams we beat throughout the standard preliminary rounds. All that aside, it was a wonderful year playing cricket with a great bunch of guys, most special was watching the young players such as Luke Silver, Ray Talati, Nick Tucker, Jordan Whitehorn and Travis Vincent develop and excel at various stages. The young guns were very well complemented by the experienced players in the team, Bill, Des, Ian, Geoff, Milton and of course Luke Manton who fits somewhere in between. The absolute highlights were: Ray Talatis magnificent 145 against WPH. An innings of true class from a young batsmen going places Nick Tuckers wholehearted bowling performances throughout the whole year Ian Talatis stoic defence of the new ball every time he walked out to bat, watching him blunt opposition attacks week in week out brought back memories of Bruce stumpy Laird in his prime Bill Irelands high class wicket keeping (and choice of facial protection) against all forms of bowling Luke Mantons adventurous batting and big in swinging Yorkers
Personally of course my team highlight was our win over Kenthurst when, 9 down with 2 runs to win, our number 11 strode to the crease, showing maturity well beyond his 13 years of age he stuck in with Des and hit the winning runs against one of the better bowlers in the competition to the cheers of his team mates (and relief of his father). Regardless of the final results, this team was definitely a side capable of pushing the best in the grade; hopefully luck will go our way next year. Finally, a big thank you to manager, Stella Talati, for all the hard work throughout the year, it is a thankless job and we as a team and a club thank you for it.

Sunday Maroon Report 2012/13 saw the return of the St Leos cricket team (plus a whole lot of fill-ins) in their debut Sunday comp season. The team was optimistic, thinking we could go all the way, and ohh how we were wrong. Our lack of bowlers hurt us throughout the season losing our first couple of games in the dying stages. We did however have some unlikely candidates step up with some outstanding performances with the ball, Justin double bounce Mack put in solid performances with week in and week out, bowling to our tactical leg side fields with great success. JJ the arm Sleeman also stepped up when the team was looking down and out with consistent bowling performances, pushing for leading wicket taker, unfortunately losing the title by 1 ticket to the great Justin mentioned above. Batting performances throughout the season came from across the board. Ross Pantsman Thomson batted with the tactics of hitting fours or getting out with most performances coming from the latter. Scotty, Tim and chopper out in some great knocks throughout the season with Sam, will and Justin doing little to help. Even with our early poor performances, our spirits were kept high with pink zinc and funny hat days helping us to get some wins under our belts and scrape into 5th place qualifying in first place for the bottom half of the table finals. A wash out in the semis and poor performances from will in the final saw us lose to be other Berowra team in a close fought T20 final. Sunday White... Report? (Unedited) It was a season of success! For the Berowra white Sunday side. We cautiously lost 5 of our 7 matches in the normal season with an closely fought out draw against the eventual winners of the final nobody cares to remember; When it comes to great sporting moments in Australian history, you think, Bradman scoring 335 in the ashes, Australia winning the Americas cup, Tim Cahill scoring a double against Japan in the World Cup and most recently the new Masters champion Adam Scott, ladies and gentleman. On the 3rd of march 2013, another occurred. The highly fancied Berowra Maroon were to take on a red hot Berowra White team that came off a big win a semi final where the other team did a no show(probably because villawood detention centre found them first). The scene was set for a classic, Warrina St oval was looking pristine and a 20/20 match was on the cards. The captains strolled out to the middle, Rick Dakic of the Berowra white Side looking the part dressed in his whites and a fresh set of maxis on, and Brad Brigges (what a grub) smelling like he had been involved in a 12 hour docking session. The coin is tossed Rick calls head, its heads (what a guy), Dakic takes the conditions into account and chooses to bowl first, off they go to there respected sides. Dakic could smell victory in the air, so he opens the bowling with some unplayable offspin, but first to strike was Shoaib McMonies with a short one to Scott Griffin who edged and was caught in first slip with a diving catch from no other then super Dakic, this set the tone for the rest of the innings with Berowra maroon scratching there way to 7/103, with the best of the bowlers, Rick Dakic 3/19, Richard hunter 2/17, Phil Crompton 1/18, Shoaib McMonies 1/23 and Andrew McMonies (THE DESTROYER of cricket balls) 0/14 Berowra whites turn to bat with Steve Wall( this guy could run himself out of a tsunami, he is that good) and Rick Dakic, the man with trophies, an average and aggregate on his mind and a team on his shoulders, stroll out to bat Steve made an impressive 2,(bowled) out comes Andy McMonnies came out at number 3 and played an expansive game with paddle shots , reverse pull shots pure entertainment and was out for 32. With 11 runs to get off 16 overs Luke Jones (Im Getting Angry) smashed 10 off the last two balls of the over to put Dakic on strike to hit the winning run and hit one of the best 50s you will ever see, witch happens with a spectacular block and run. What a win! Senior Presentation Night

This season, the BCC Executive decided to replace the traditional lunchtime pub presentation with a more structured presentation evening at Berowra RSL Club. The night was hosted by BCC stalwarts Doug Foster and Phill Reid, with former Wallaby and BCC junior Matt Dunning joining us as a special guest. Over 110 BCC members, life members and former players enjoyed three courses provided by Berowra RSL, as outstanding performances were recognised with trophies presented by our Life Members. Highlights of the night included Nathan Tilbury receiving Life Membership from BCC President and childhood friend Mick Vincent, Doug Foster interviewing Matt Dunning, Phill Reid buzzing around the room quizzing captains and life members on their career highlights and C2 skipper Roy Caldwell trying his hand at goanna wrestling. season. The Bruce Moore Award is for BCC Juniors who have graduated from u16s and completed their first full season as a BCC Senior. Bruce Moore has served the club since 1967/68, having played 15 seasons, coached juniors for seven, served as Vice President for one season and as President for nine terms during the 1970s. Bruce was inducted as a Life Member in 1981, and has maintained a close relationship with the Club since. It was unanimously agreed by the BCC Executive, that this award appropriately be named after Bruce. The inaugural Doug Foster conducting a Q&A session with Matt Dunning. recipients of the Bruce Moore Service Award were Ben Gunther, Nick Raymond, Geordie Boyce, Seb Crago, Nick Tucker, and Liam Kissick. The other two new perpetuals introduced were the Player of the Year and Wicketkeeper of the Year awards. Jack Smallhorn enjoyed a great season and was the inaugural recipient of both the Player of the Year and Wicketkeeper of the Year awards. Thank you to Berowra RSL, Action Indoor Sports Mt Kuring-gai, Tillers and Michael Parker at Berowra Post Office for generously donating raffle prizes.

BCC Player of the Year Finalists

Firstly, congratulations to all those players who experienced on-field success this season. The following players were recognised by their captains as the stand-out performers and were nominated for player of the year. Their nominators initials are in brackets. A1 Scott Griffin (WF), Murray Watts (SG), Andrew Rayner (SG), Will Fiedler (SG); A2 Jack Smallhorn (AC), Andrew Cook (GF), Brad Fiedler (AC); B1 Brad Briggs (BB), Richard Nash (RN), Tim Onions (WF); B2 Andrew Endicott (MJ); C1 Nick Raymond (MA), Jamie Bayliss (MA), Raj Suryanarayana (MA), Steve Johnson (MA); C2 Roy Caldwell (RC), Trent Barnett (RC); D1 Ray Talati (WF), Luke Manton (WF). From here, six finalists were selected by a panel consisting of Mick Vincent, Greg Fiedler, Scott Griffin and Will Fiedler. Performances under pressure, leadership, quality of opposition, match winning performances and shear numbers on the board were considered in the process. From the six finalists, captains and executive members were asked to vote for who they considered the best player of 2012/13 in a 6-5-4-3-2-1 format. The player who polled the most votes would be judged player of the year. In the end, the top four players were separated by only 7 points, with one point separating 1st and 2nd. The six finalists were: Andrew Rayner New boy Andy Rayner hit a dominant 50 in his A Grade debut vs Kissing Point and never looked back. The highlight of the year was a destructive 127 in B Grade. Andy finished with 527 runs @ 35.13, 10 wickets @ 10.6 and took 7 catches. Scott Griffin In his first year of A Grade skipper Scott led the side to the grand final, as well as dealing with the pressures of being a top order bat and opening bowler. Scott finished the season with 255 runs @23, 28 wickets at 17.7 and 8 catches. Jack Smallhorn 370 runs across A1/A2. Very inspirational to the A2 team and helped out in A grade with a couple of crucial performances throughout the year, including 67 in the SF. Outstanding keeping performance 33 dismissals including 7 stumpings. Great clubman. AJ Cook Captain of the grade which many consider to be the toughest to lead with performing players being drawn into A1s and managing those players dropped from A1s. AJ captained A2s to the premiership, recorded 33 wickets at an average of 13.58 in A2s and hit 140 valuable runs. Andrew Endicott B2s MVP Andy Mr. Cricket Endicott took 31 scalps and chipped in with 150 runs. Andy got married on a Sunday so he wouldnt miss a Saturday. This is all you need to know about Andy and his commitment to the cause. We wont mention his broken nose 2 weeks out from his wedding, nor the fact that he was ready to play again the next week. Legend! Roy Caldwell Took C2s to the decider in his first year as skipper. Roy chipped in with 387 runs, jagged 18 wickets and snared 9 catches. Junior Coordinators Report 2012/13

We started the season in early September not long after the winter sports had finished fielding eleven teams from U/8s through to U/16s. What impressed me the most was the enthusiasm of our kids and of course our Coaches, Managers and parents to make sure our teams were ready to hit the grounds running for this early start. Well done. There were many highlights during the season from an individual level through to a team level. These are some that spring to mind: *U/9 Maroons Featuring in a Big Bash Video promoting the start of this competition. *U/14s Making the Semi Finals for the first time, finishing in a nail biting tie with the eventual Premiers. *U/16s Entering the WeetBix Cup and achieving a Semi Final position that was played at Blacktown International Sports Centre on turf. BCC U8 Season 2012/13 For a first season in competitive cricket this team performed very well, there were boys who had come from Milo cricket and some who were coming straight out of pre-school. It took a few weeks but the boys got into the routine of real cricket, the idea of having to put pads on, let alone running with them and having to keep the box in place was at times all too much. So after a few weeks the boys just thought one pad and a bat was the way to go. It was pleasing to see all boys having a go, there were plenty of fours in the early games, and the short boundaries had most boys scoring a few runs each time they went into bat. All of the boys improved throughout the year with their batting technique, whilst Isaac and Matthew scored the most runs the most pleasing aspect was Isaacs ability to play with a straight bat and for Matthew to be able to show control and good defence against some of the better bowlers. Will was a whippet between wickets and loved to take on the wicketkeeper with quick singles, it was great to see him help his younger brother Angus with a few quick singles that allowed Angus to score a few runs towards the end of the season. Angus is only 5 and contributed in every aspect, but the boys and coach were most appreciative of his half time oranges and lollies at the end of each match. Thanks Angus. Another five year old Tyler had a great season, hitting plenty of fours, a memorable one when he hooked the opening bowler one bounce into the fence at Karuah. Add to this a few wickets and a direct hit run out Tyler had a great season, but needs to work on his Chris Gayle Gangnam Style celebrations. Shaun Antrim probably showed the most improvement in all aspects of his cricket, unsure whether he is a lefty or right hander. Shaun bowls left, bats right and throws right, by the end of the season his bowling was becoming more accurate and picked up a wicket, while his batting showed great promise with a perfect straight bat. Shaun was great behind the stumps saving plenty of fours from the small boundaries at Cowan, the only problem being when he dived we would almost lose him in the knee high grass. Marcus showed plenty of improvement throughout the year, taking a few wickets with some accurate bowling and he showed real determination when facing some of the faster bowlers in the competition. I think its Mum who hands out the pocket money in the house as every time mum turned up to training or a game it was amazing to see Marcus start taking wickets and scoring runs. Daniel had a good season with both bat and ball, and at one stage being in a hat trick after two consecutive bowled wickets. It was pleasing to see Daniel running off every ball in the last game, tip and run is the way to go for Daniel. Our bowlers worked hard all year on accuracy and the narrow pitches of Cowan make it very difficult to always hit the pitch, Isaac, Will and Matthew were the most consistent, and although it got them a few wickets, they were also the ones who got hit for a few runs. Most of our boys by the end of the season were bowling the full length of the pitch and Will and Isaac were generating some good pace.

There was also some excellent fielding by all boys, however Matthew and Wills ability to hit the stumps with direct hits allowed us to pull off plenty of run outs during the season. As a team the boys were able to put it all together on a few occasions and it allowed them to finish on the right side of the scorebook. Win, lose or tie it didnt matter, all that was important was. What lollies had Angus brought today? Thank you to the parents for their assistance with all aspects of the team, to Steve, John, Trent thanks for scoring, Wayne thanks for helping with umpiring, Dave thanks for your help at training. Pieced together just prior to the season proper the team was made up of a mix of boys who had and had not played cricket before. Coached by Brad Fielder, Sam Watts and Geordie Boyce, the boys were provided a quick refresher of basic skills before taking the field. Our first game produced a win and our season best team performance of 6/80. From there however results were mixed. A series of close losses through October showcased some good cricket but highlighted our bowling as being a little too accurate and hittable for the opposition. The lead up to Xmas through November produced 5 wins and a draw and had the coaches and managers excited about the prospect of what was to come. However the boys never made it back from holidays. This was most evident with our season worst performance of 7/10 in early February. The final results showed 6 wins, 13 losses and 1 draw (With BCC U9 White of all teams). It must be said the highlight of the season for the boys was filming of a promotional shoot for Fox Sports for the T20 Big Bash League game between the Sydney 6ers and the Sydney Thunder. The shoot took place in Berowra and featured the Maroons playing street cricket dressed as the opposing teams. The video featured on air on Fox Sports before the game and also on the big screens at the SCG. The team also took the opportunity to go to the game as a group to catch the shoot on the big screen.

Adam Warren: Adam is a very fine bowler, managing to bowl with great swing and accuracy. With more balls in his armory than Glenn McGrath, Adam loves to mix his deadly pace deliveries with wicked leg spinners that leave the batsmen bamboozled. Loves the game with a passion, even keeps tabs of his stats during the games. Ben Kelly: The biggest improvement of the season was with his bowling. Ben turned into one of our most consistent bowlers proving difficult to score runs from. He also proved very difficult to dismiss with the bat, putting together many not out partnerships with Josh. Ben was only dismissed 5 times in 15 innings. Quite a feat. Benjamin Russell: Always willing to listen and learn, which was evident through his performances throughout the year. He became dangerous with both bat and ball, impressively combining both defensive and offensive stroke play to put together some fine innings. Cal Hayes: Developed through the season as a weapon with the bat. A very technically sound batsman who has an impressive range of strokes, uncommon in most cricketers his age. Cal also bowled at a great pace throughout the season, often causing batsmen trouble and taking many important wickets. Dylan Wallis:. Dylans prowess behind the wickets was evident taking 4 catches (not including the 2 for the opposition as a substitute fielder) and affecting a couple of run outs. His powerful left handed stroke play became a sight to behold. His love for batting was showcased by often asking to bat up to 3 times in a session at training and getting the coaches to continually bowl to him. Joshua Francis: Josh transformed during the season into our rock with the bat alongside Ben K. He also became the go to man who would manage to force the breakthrough with dangerous and accurate outswing bowling. 1 of only 2 players in the team to take 10 wickets and score over 100 runs. Manning Askew: Manning was always our leading strike weapon with the ball throughout the season taking 10 wickets at an average of 8.50. Bowling with pace, accuracy and movement, Manning always created problems for the opposition. His batting brought boundaries also, with an impressive repertoire of power hitting at the end of each innings. Marcus Ridley: Marcus is a very exciting prospect for the future. His technical ability with the bat was among the best in the competition and spared us embarrassment many times during the season. His bowling developed some wicked pace by the end of the season and he was always alert in the field. An excellent all round performance taking 10 wickets and scoring 193 runs as well as 2 catches and 2 run outs. BCC U9 White Season 2012/13 2012-13 was a tremendously exciting season for the Under 9 White side. Three new players joined the squad from last season and slotted in brilliantly in their first year of big cricket. Whilst the results of the season were outstanding (i.e. Played 18 games losing only 3), it was the improvement in each and every player that was most pleasing. Training sessions were well attended and with particular focus on fielding this season, the Berowra White team was noticeably one of the best fielding sides in the competition.

Liam once again had a tremendous year with both bat and ball .Topping the sides batting aggregate for the second year in a row, Liam consistently demolished opposition attacks. Then with the ball, when Liam got it right he was simply too quick for opposition batsmen. Very talented young cricketer, also with a bullet like arm in the field. Great season again Liam. Oliver improved immensely this season and cant wait to see what he has in store for us next season. His bowling has taken enormous strides this season. 8 wickets at just under 14 is a fantastic effort and we can see him ripping through sides next year, well played Olly! Daniel had a very strong season with both bat and ball and was one of the sides best fielders. In 14 innings at the crease Daniel was not dismissed once, a fantastic effort. Daniel showed real pride in his wicket and was determined not to be dismissed. He has always been a consistent wicket taker, again taking 11 wickets in 14 matches, however Daniels fielding was at times brilliant, taking many difficult catches and executing several run outs. Fantastic season Daniel, well played. Tim joined us for his first season of big cricket and he was a wonderful asset to the side. Full of enthusiasm both at training and on game day, he was a pleasure to coach. Tim s all round game developed throughout the season ,particularly his batting, with several strong performances. A fearless fielder, Tim was an asset to this side and has a bright future as he learns quickly. Great season Tim. Lachlan really stepped up with the bat this season and expect big things from Lachy next season. His highest score of 31 not out was one of many devastating innings. Once again very consistent with the ball and another whos fielding improved dramatically this year. Very keen, determined young cricketer who has a lot of potential. Well played Lachlan. Harrison had his first year of big cricket and enjoyed himself immensely. No more determined player with the bat could there be found, and this shows in his stats of only being dismissed 3 times in 12 innings. Harrisons 2 for 6 against Berowra Maroon was a season highlight with the ball. Well played Harrison, big improvement coming again next year for you. Jake also joined us for his first year of big cricket and what a season. Another who valued his wicket so highly with such determination not to be dismissed. Jake too was one of the sides best fielders week to week, executing several brilliant run outs. Yet it was Jakes bowling that really stood out, highlighted by his spell of 3/0 against Normo in December. Jake has a beautiful side on action for someone so young. As he develops, I fear for the opening batsmen of the future! Great season Jake. Zac was the sides most consistent player with both bat and ball and one of the competitions best fielders. Zac pulled off some remarkable fielding efforts this season, both on the ground and in the air. His stats with both bat and ball speak for themselves, 2nd highest run scorer and leading wicket taker, yet what can be missed is how hard Zac has been working on his technique. This was evident later in the season when he started playing balls through the offside, which as a coach was pleasure to watch. Great season again Zac, well played. Jarrod had a consistent season with both bat and ball and appears to be developing a nice technique with the bat and a certain leg spinners style with the ball. Another that was trying hard to

hit balls bowled on the off side through the off side field which is pleasing to see. One of the sides keenest fielders who assisted in and executed several run outs this season. Well done Jarrod. Coach John and Manager Chris would like to thank very much all the parents who helped us throughout the season and to all the parents who came along and supported the side every weekend. We had a wonderful atmosphere at all our games and it truly was a pleasure to get up early on Saturday mornings for cricket. Thanks to Andy and Angus who helped out each week at training. BCC U10 Season 2012/13 U10 Ponting has been a great team to coach in the 2012 / 13 season, and has become a squad that works together well and encourages each other. We have had fabulous parental support as we won more games than we lost. Every week saw one of the players produce a great performance and the season recorded great turnout rates by the boys for both games and training. This was a real development year for U10 Ponting seeing a team that matured and developed over time and supported and encouraged each other both at training and in the games. Looking at each player in turn: Page 56 Josh Bayliss lead the attack in bowling and batting gaining additional experience from being part of the HKUHD Rep Development Squad, and was one of the boys who got out there and set the standard.

Finn Hopkins had a great year with the bat, scoring well above the average. He produced a high ratio of 4s. He also continued to show reliable bowling skills and effectiveness in the field. Tana Killick played as the teams wicket keeper this season learning the skills of this role. He played courageously and fearlessly against bigger and stronger boys taking some spectacular dives and stopping the ball on occasion with his helmet. He was the team live wire, stridently supporting his team mates. Joshua Jones-Blair was new to cricket this season but persevered in training and took great strides in developing the skills of the game with a real passion. Alex Guzman joined the team as a true sportsman. An all-rounder, natural left hander who bowls, bats and fields to a very high standard, and has a great future with the game. Lachlan Baker was another solid all-rounder who was a credit to the team, quick and efficient in the field, a great bowler when focused and a safe pair of hands. Notable in his unlucky run in with a bee! Zac Gordon was another player new to the game, and not a natural sportsman, but gave the team his all. We saw real progress in his skills and focus, and he managed to take a couple of wickets. He persevered and committed himself to gain results. Zac played as a solid tail ender for the team, who learned to not give wickets away. Josh Davenport had a fantastic season showing a mature attitude to the game, and was a solid run maker, his bowling reliably taking wickets. A real example of an all-round team player supporting his team mates. Samuel Whybird continued to show improvement from last year a team player with a quietly principled and disciplined attitude to the game, committing himself to understanding the nuances and growing in the team. Ty Willows unfortunately lost half of the season after breaking his arm but returned stronger and continued to grow his skills. He showed a fearless stance, skills that are steadily developing and could turn the ball to take unexpected wickets. Ben Hunter was our top wicket-taker, fiery with the bat, a natural left hander who reads the game well and fabulous in the field when focused. Notable in his unlucky run in with a coke can! Of special mention are the boys parents who turned up to all the games and supported the team all season especially Jim Hopkins and Richard Hunter for support with training and umpiring, Graham Baker and JC Guzman for scoring all season, Chris Whybird for getting the boys on and off the field during the game and my wife Clare for managing the team and keeping everyone well informed of arrangements. We look forward to staying together as we progress to U11s next year.

BCC U11 Maroon Season 2012/13 What a fantastic season we have had, every player has improved out of sight with improved skills in bowling, batting and fielding by all. One of the great attributes of the team is the every player has contributed equally all season whether it be with ball or bat and it has genuinely been a team effort all season. Couple of call-out efforts this season has been the number of players from this team that have played for the HK&HDCA representative U/10 and U/11 teams being Cooper Davenport, Aaron Surace, Sam Tapner, Mitchell Barrett, Nicholas Barrett and Seb Elliasson. With a team of only 11 players, the kids passion for the game was such that we were never short and always fielded a team. From a coaches perspective, it has been an absolute pleasure coaching these boys this season as not only were they keen to improve their skills in batting, bowling and fielding, but their passion for the game cant be measured. To hear the boys talk about cricket all day and what they would do when they represent Australia was priceless and to us as coaches is what it is all about. Page 58 We would also like to thanks all the parents for their support all season throughout training, at the game or generally making for a fun and enjoyable season.

Under 11s Maroon
BCC U11 White Season 2012/13 This season, we had a blend of players from last seasons two teams as well as two players new to the club. The boys settled in quickly as a team. We could have done with another one or two players, as most games we were a couple of men short. Despite not making the semis, the boys continued to improve throughout the season. The batting was solid most games with a couple of 100 run partnerships during the year. At the start of the season, we were concerned about the numbers of extras being bowled but it was pleasing to see this reduced on a weekly basis. The catching was probably the area where the boys showed most improvement this year. In past years, catches were a rarity but with a full season of hardball cricket behind them, the players are no longer scared of getting under the high ones. The ground fielding was another area of huge improvement, with great throws and run-outs occurring on a regular basis.

OLIVER DODD Oliver had a solid season, highlighted by a great 42 not out in a 100+ run partnership towards the end of the season. WILL HARPUR Our fastest runner between the wickets and in the field, Will had several good scores through the year and many good fielding displays, including a few run outs. MITCHELL KISSICK One of the leading bowlers in the team, Mitch struggled with the bat this year but made up for it with his tight bowling. Also has a powerful arm when fielding in the deep. JACK MAGSON Jack had a great season. He had several good scores with the bat and was tidy with the ball. Jack took five catches and he is also developing into a very good wicket keeper. DYLAN PLUMRIDGE DJ was probably our most improved player this season, particularly his bowling and catching. He finished as our leading wicket taker with eleven wickets and fifth in the district for all U/11s. MAX SHEPPARD Max possesses great hand eye coordination and very rarely does the ball beat the bat. He finally started to put some power into his shots and if he continues with this, the big scores wont be far away. TOMMY STEELE One of the new players at the club this year, Tommy settled in quickly and was handy with both bat and ball. He kept opposition batsmen on their toes with several direct hits throughout the season. COREY THOMSON Corey had a fantastic season with the bat, finishing as our leading run scorer with 280 runs at an average of 70. He also took four catches and did a fair amount of wicket keeping. Page 60 JAKE TRUSKETT-JONES Jake made several good starts with the bat but it was his fielding that provided his highlights this season. He took three catches and was also involved in three run outs.

BAILEY WINTER Bailey was our second new player, joining the team halfway through the season. He is enthusiastic in the field and doesnt give away cheap runs when bowling.

BCC U12 Season 2012/13 The Berowra Mt Colah under 12s didnt win as many games as we would have liked this year, but if success is measured in effort and cricket played in the right spirit, then the season was very successful. We had a mixed team of Berowra U12s and Mt Colah U11s, and the Mt Colah boys did an outstanding job playing up a year. The boys nick-named the team Berolah in the 2nd or 3rd game and the name stuck. The team was coached by Peter Onions (Berowra) and managed by Michelle Boccalatte (Mt Colah) and was an example of inter-club cooperation at its best, with parents and officials from both clubs chipping in to make everything work (special mention to Mike Blackwood, Paul Boccalatte, Paul Cramsie, and John Knox). All players contributed to a positive season of cricket; Dan improved his bowling and fielding this season, and took the most wickets for the team. Page 61 Ed had another great season with the bat and ball, and also with his catching, run-outs, and general positive attitude on the field.

Zac opened the batting and the bowling in a number of games, and carried the innings through the traditional middle-order collapse a number of times. Ben B improved with the bat and ball, and had a number of impressive innings both near the top of the order and lower down. Sean improved throughout the season and his effort at training paid off with a number of valuable innings towards the end of the season. Luke was the bravest batsman in the team, standing up to bowlers letting the ball go from twice his height who thought they could blast him out, proving them wrong, and also improving his bowling considerably towards the end of the season. Mitch improved in all areas of the game, and proved his value as a top-order batsman and keeper, and as a positive influence in the field. Ben K put in maximum effort in batting, bowling and in the field in every game, always with a positive attitude. Aaron contributed with both the bat and the ball, showing his ability to open with either and also proved to be a very good fielder. Angus showed his considerable bowling talent, and also his value as a keeper and slipper. Lachlan brought his considerable cricket talent to all areas of the game again this season, improving particularly in his bowling where he consistently got wickets for the bowler at the other end. Aryan contributed with both bat and ball, and his fielding and catching improved throughout the season. Brentons bowling improved a lot this season, and he put in another strong performance scoring runs and taking catches in the field. All the Berolah boys can be proud of the way they played. Our batting and bowling let us down on occasion, but we were one of the best, if not the best fielding team in the competition with very few catches dropped, many exceptional chances held, and many run outs executed throughout the season. Under 12s
BCC U13 Maroon Season 2012/13 Another great season from the team. This year saw the return of the majority of the 2011/12 season players with 3 valuable new additions; Pat OBrien, Jordan Smylie and Callum Williams. The season saw a dramatic improvement in the boys cricket skills and knowledge. The future seasons will see a formidable Berowra team that will be very competitive. The highlight of the season was the brilliant run chase in our second outing. We started the day with a strong score having been set by the WPHC- Green team the previous week. The challenge was even greater with several players not being available this Saturday morning leaving just 8 batsmen to attempt the run chase. The boys showed great temperament after losing several early wickets. A solid foundation was set by Matthew W who doggedly batted throughout the innings to set his highscore of the season of 60 not out. With late wickets tumbling, and running out of batsmen the team managed a great last wicket partnership to get the team across the line for the first win of the season. All the boys have shown great enthusiasm, with strong bowling and fielding efforts from all of them. There have also been some fantastic individual improvements from the boys wielding the willow. Damian has impressed everyone with his determination to improve his batting. He has shown great potential to move into a higher order player with improved technique.

Special mention should be made of Jordan S, who in his debut year has shown that he will be a great all round cricketer in the future (6 wickets and 77 runs, putting him the top 5 for both batting and bowling!!) The most important point for the season is the boys have had a great time. They continue to learn to have a real respect and love of the game. Sportsmanship has been (and will continue to be) the most emphasised skill to be encouraged in the boys. A special thanks goes to all the parents. Everyone has had a go at scoring or umpiring this year which has been a huge help. Congratulations to all the boys on another great season, and hope to see everyone return next year. BCC U13 White Season 2012/13 The 2012/2013 season was again enjoyed by the kids, coach and manager. Richard and I would like to thank the parents for getting the kids to the games every week, and for all the parents that helped out with scoring during the season. We welcomed a new Player this season (Hayden Wadling) who gelled straight away and fitted in well with the rest of the team. Once again this seasons score book doesnt reflect the way the kids performed with the bat and ball as we had more than our share of close ones .The boys pretty much ran their own show on the field and they did so really well with limited guidance. The batting continued to improve from last year having 4 players Tyger, Oliver, Max and Sean all backing up their milestone of 50 runs in an innings with further 50s this season , Also Matt Jones , Anthony and Hayden Baxter making and retiring on their 50s as well. Our boys continued to excel with their discipline and skill in bowling but unfortunately we were a little disappointing in the catching department proving the truest saying of all (Catches Win Matches}. Point and Joe Robinson from Pennant Hills. All three brought with them previous junior grand final winning experience. As usual, we commenced our pre-season training well in advance, to ensure the boys hit the ground running. Our aim for the season was to make the finals, which we had not previously achieved, although we had come within one victory in the previous two seasons. The boys dominated the early rounds and it was soon clear that Berowra was going to be one of the teams to beat for the premiership. By the end of round eight, leading into Christmas, we had achieved our initial goal of making the finals. We had achieved seven victories in our first eight matches, with our only loss to premiership favourites Redfield/Kenthurst. After the January school holidays, we came up against the previous seasons premiers Pennant Hills, in a one day game. In a very exciting finish, Pennant Hills overtook our score in the final over after losing eight wickets. We put in a poor batting display in round ten, but got away with a draw due to rain on the second week. The result of this game had no bearing on our table position and we finished the preliminary rounds in third position. Our semi-final opponent would be Pennant Hills. The boys knuckled down and put in extra training sessions to give themselves every chance against the very powerful Pennant Hills squad. The semi-final was to be one of the most exciting and talked about games for many years to come. The game was reduced to a one day game due to the first week being washed out. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Berowra were 2/35 at the 16 over half way mark on a very slow outfield. After the drinks break, excellent running between wickets between Mark Tobin and Ryan Tullia saw 61 runs added in the next 11 overs, and some late order hitting saw the boys build to a very competitive score of 122. Pennant Hills are a very strong batting unit, and whilst we continued to take wickets on a regular basis, they always seemed to send out another player with the ability to hit runs quickly. We had Pennant Hills 9/114, but to their credit, they scored two runs off the final ball to secure a tie. As the highest ranked team, Pennant Hills progressed to the grand final where they upset Redfield/Kenthurst, who was previously undefeated throughout the season. This was the third consecutive grand final between Pennant Hills & Redfield in our age group. The semi-final was played in great spirit and the parents from Pennant Hills acknowledged the better side on the day was Berowra, which was a nice gesture. A special thank you to Will Fiedler who dedicated his own time to train the kids this year and also umpired every weekend. Will also managed to attract extra support from fellow A Grade players Scott Griffin and David Steptoe, along with the very experienced Tom Richmond. Page 67 David Steptoe focussed on our wicket keepers Mitchell Smith & Russell Yates, who continue to show improvement and Scott Griffin & Tom Richmond assisted with the batting and bowling. I doubt any other team in the competition had as much coaching support, and the kids will benefit from these guys in the years ahead.

As usual, Berowra had the most support from the sidelines and we thank the parents and grandparents for attending every week. I would also like to thank Mick Vincent and Michael Parker who assisted with umpiring and Matthew Smith who regularly scored for us. Bowling Award (most wickets, then best average): Mark Tobin: 14 wickets @ 10.57 Other notable performances: Joe Robinson: 14 wickets @ 10.86 Angus Dodd: 10 wickets @ 12.70 Ryan Tullia: 10 wickets @ 14.60 Batting Award (minimum of 300 runs, then best average): Ryan Tullia: 351 runs @ 58.50 Other notable performances: Daniel Jones: 316 runs @ 39.50 Mark Tobin: 237 runs @ 47.40 Will Giacometti: 203 runs @ 67.67 Note! Our other 9 players averaged less than 10.00 and this is the key area we need to improve if we are to compete consistently with Pennant Hills & Redfield/Kenthurst for our final 2 seasons of junior cricket. Coaches Award: Mitchell Smith Our bits and pieces man. Batted bravely, bowled economically and developed into a competent wicket keeper, finishing the season with three catches and a stumping. Mitch opened the batting when asked and took wickets when needed. Mitchs attitude and enthusiasm towards cricket was evident in his tremendous improvement throughout the season and made him a pleasure to coach. Glenn Tullia

Under 14s
BCC U16 Season 2012/13 The under 16s narrowly missed the finals this year but nonetheless we were very satisfied with our efforts. The boys played some outstanding cricket, but at times we struggled to get 11 players on the field, which cost us greater glory in the end. However, the team spirit and camaraderie of the core group of boys was outstanding which made coaching this team very enjoyable. Special praise goes to Nick M and Sean who spent many a Friday night trying to entice fill-ins for the following days play. The highlight of our season was our David and Goliath efforts in reaching the semi-final of the Sydney metropolitan wide Weetbix T20 competition. The quarters and semi were played on turf at the Blacktown International Sports Centre which was a great experience for the boys. Wed like to give a big thankyou to u/14 players Mark & Liam Tobin and Ryan Tulia who contributed to our efforts in this comp. Other season highlights included: Nick Ms tactically astute captaincy, inspirational leadership and great all round year with bat (372 runs) and ball (12 wickets) Kanes fireworks at the top of the order (150+ runs) Aarons exceptional wicketkeeping and solid opening batting (190 runs) Seans great all round year with bat (190 runs) and ball (10 wickets) plus his great on-field leadership Annual Report 2012/13

Chris B showing he is one of the most dangerous bowlers in the comp (10 wickets but pretty unlucky) plus solid batting (150 runs) Nick Cs great year with the ball (16 wickets often getting early break throughs) and big contribution to team spirit Bede with another great all round year with bat (100 runs) and ball (9 wickets) and mature leadership Matts fantastic improvement in all areas of the game and his exceptional attitude to training and playing Marks great natural talent (100 runs and 5 wickets despite not being available for a lot of games and his truly inspiring efforts in the field), the boys really looked up to Mark as a natural leader Dan Es nerves of steel when bowling leggies to some pretty big hitters and finishing with a great season haul of wickets (11 wickets) Andrews early contributions with the ball (8 wickets) Jack filling in and showing that he is a great team man George making time in a very busy schedule to help the team in times of need and then demonstrating what a great talent he is.

Junior Presentation Day

This season saw a change in the structure of our junior presentation day, as we moved from Berowra Public Schools hall, to our sponsor the Berowra Village Tavern. MC Michael Parker was joined by special guests Matt Kean MP Member for Hornsby, and upcoming NSW Speedblitz Blues & Australia u19 superstar, Harry Conway. Matt Kean spoke well of the importance of junior cricket in the local area before Harry Conway was interviewed by Michael Parker on his career so far and the frustration of injuries hampering his 2012/13 season . We then enjoyed a barbecue lunch courtesy of Berowra Village Tavern, before the official ceremonies began. The BCC juniors were thrilled to receive their trophies from Harry & Matt, who distributed over 150 trophies between them! Congratulations to Michael for organising a great day and a special thank you to both Matt and Harry for attending the day.
