FOAM, DOUBLE SHIELDED, LOW LOSS 50 OHM COAXIAL CABLES

With today's communications systems generally requiring more and more of the Radio Frequency spectrum, the push to higher and higher frequencies is on. To cater for this trend we at GFS Electronics, have available a range of cost effective, easy to terminate low loss coaxial cables. Known as the D-FB coaxial cable range, it consists of four types, 5D-FB, 8D-FB, 10D-FB and 12D-FB, all with 50 ohm characteristic impedance. Apart from exhibiting low loss this series of coaxial cables offer a number of advantages over and above conventional coax cable, as well as some of the Heliax(*) type cables. For example 5D-FB has an outside diameter of only 7.6 mm, considerably less than RG-8/AU's outside diameter of 10.3 mm, yet 5D-FB is some what lower in loss at 3.9 dB/30 metres at 400 MHz when compared with RG-8/AU's loss of 4.7 dB/30 metres at 400 MHz. For applications where both small size and low loss are required 5D-FB is ideally suited.

Type 8D-FB, although approximately the same outside diameter as RG-8/AU (8D-FB = 11 mm, RG-8/AU = 10.3 mm) exhibits nearly half the loss of RG-8/AU and even has a lower loss than Belden type 9913. The type 10D-FB compares favourably with LDF2-50 Heliax(*) in that it is more flexible, easier to terminate and lower loss (10D-FB's loss is 2.1dB compared with LDF2-50 at 2.16dB/30 metres at 400 MHz). Additionally type 12D-FB is eminently more flexible and more easily terminated than LDF4-50A Heliax(*) and offers only slightly higher loss figures up to 1000 MHz.

The D-FB series of coaxial cables' double shielding, consisting of an aluminium milar foil completely encasing the cable's dielectric, surrounded by a high density tinned copper braid, ensures that excellent RFI/EMI shielding properties are exhibited by them. Their soft annealed solid copper inner conductor also ensures that great flexibility and bending properties are available in these cables.

We normally carry a range of easy to terminate connectors to suit the D-FB cables, including 'N' type male and female, 'BNC' type male and PL-259. Others types are available ex-Japan. Manufactured in Japan to exacting standards by Nippon Tsushin Co., the D-FB series of coaxial cables are seeing use in a wide range of applications across Australia including the mining, marine, industrial, commercial radio, broadcast and transport industries.
