MAKING EVERY CHRISTIAN A MISSIONARY

Richard and Margaret Lawing

Lords help that night he would not be with us today. He gives credit to the Lord because when the doctors gave up he knows the Lord never gave up on him. He now can do just about anything he wants, even though he has no use of his left arm and limited use of his left leg. Margaret says the one thing that caused her to fall in love with him is that he does not feel sorry for himself and wants no pity. He will attempt to do most anything, and if he cant do it, then he will ask for help. Richard likes to read his Bible and go fishing. Margaret is a teachers aide at the Rolla Head Start Center. She graduated from Missouri State University, West Plains in December, 2010 with two degrees, a BA in Elementary Education and a BA in Early Childhood. She is working on her Masters degree in Early Childhood and hopes to complete it in December. Here at the church, Margaret

This October they will be celebrating their fifteenth wedding anniversary. Richard worked at a saw mill in Caulfield and helped his parents with the family fishing bait business. They came to Rolla in August of 2010, to be closer to Margarets mother and grandmother, June Hughes. You have no idea what this program has done for my son. Thank you so much! My daughter absolutely loves coming here. Comments like these are what keep us going at KidCare America! As we start our 10th year here, we couldnt be more excited for the plans that God has for us. With less than a month to go, prayer and planning are already being put in place for the upcoming year. And as we finalize our plans, we hope you can find a niche with us! KidCare America is our after-school mentoring ministry that brings kids to a safe and fun placechurch! While theyre here, we mentor them in the areas of education, life skills, and learning about God. With around 40-45 students expected this fall, we need lots of help! Bus drivers, tutors, and cooks are just a few areas where we can always use an extra hand. Are you free any days from 3-6 PM? This year, Im so excited to also ask for prayer partners that can be praying daily for the students in our ministry. Can you help? We need a prayer partner for each child! We know that through constant and loving prayer that God can do miraculous things in these students lives, and you have the chance to be a part of this awesome ministry. Ive saved the most important item for last! As I mentioned, we are beginning our 10th year of KidCare America here at First Assembly. Gods hand and the churchs help have guided this program to where it is now, and we want to sincerely thank each person that has been a part of this program since its inception. Each of you know who you are, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Saturday, August 24 th we will be celebrating our 10-year anniversary with an evening banquet that we would love for past students, volunteers, and donors to come to! Check the upcoming events for location and time. God bless! Sam Parker

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (Covenant House) in Springfield MO was planted by Dr. Theresa Odun-ayo on April 21, 2012. Covenant House has a vision to reach out and minister to the fastgrowing African community in Springfield. The first service started with 4 people from the Springfield area, has now grown to about 40, and includes people from as far away as Lebanon. They have recently acquired a storefront on

Kearney Street to hold services in. Last month, a group from First Assembly went to remodel the space to make it suitable for holding services. The first

service was held at the end of July, with Pastor Chuck as the guest speaker. There were more than 80 guests in attendance. my parents. They are awesome parents. I love them dearly. Loretta is the baby at only twenty-two months old. She makes their family complete. She brings so much joy to the family. We do not know what we would do without her. Her favorite things to say right now are, I said STOP or NO. She is a blessing given to us by God eight years after we thought we were done having children. The Lawing family is so happy to be at First Assembly of God. They have been looking for a church home for many years where they felt welcome and needed. Its great to have a church home and a church family. Margaret Lawing

has been the 5 grade Mentor for KidCare since January, 2011. Being in that position gives her the greatest reward because that is the one place she says she can help her students build their faith, and that is why three of their four children attend the program as well. Margaret likes to work on jigsaw puzzles and spend time with family. Hazel is the oldest at thirteen. Her hobbies are basketball, softball, and volleyball. Hazel is a great help to her parents in the kitchen and says she wants to attend culinary school after high school. Hazel says that she loves to go to Rolla First Assembly of God to learn about God, and get more into His Word. Elizabeth is twelve. Elizabeths hobbies are reading, drawing, and painting (really anything to do with art). She also loves to go fishing with her dad and brother every chance she gets. Elizabeth says she wants to be an artist and go into missionary work. Elizabeth gave her life to the Lord when she was nine. She says, I love to be a part of our church. Richard, nine, is the only boy of the four children and will be a fourth grader at Truman Elementary. Richards hobbies are playing with his dog Ladybug, fishing and basketball. Richard says, KidCare is so much fun. We play games, do homework, and have story time, and, God is the best thing to me. He gave me

An important aspect of the ministry of KidCare America is offering the program at no cost to families. In most cases, the children that need these types of services are the ones that cant afford them. Through the entirety of our program, weve served hundreds of children that most likely could not have been a part of KidCare America. Through the loving and benevolent donations of so many people, we have kept to our original goal. Our next goal is to reach 50 students in KidCare America. We are nearly there. For two years now, weve had between 40-45 students enrolled. However, to reach our goal will increase our budget by about $10,000. We hope you can prayerfully consider becoming one of our financial partners as we reach the children of Rolla with the gospel of Christ. We are also very excited for a big announcement in the very near future for those that would consider a large investment in KidCare America. Stay tuned!

I know someone that could use this program. How do I get info to them? Call, click or come by! You can reach our office at 3644700. Our website is rolla-firstassembly.org, and our office is here at the church. Well be glad to talk to anyone interested in the program. How many students are enrolled? Were looking at beginning this fall with 40-45 students. Why doesnt KidCare America enroll more students? An integral part of the program is that we keep our adult-to-student ratio low. Its through one on one relationships that were able to pour wisdom and love into the students lives. We are also hindered somewhat by our funding. Each student requires about $2200 in funding for the year. Id like to help, but not sure how often. Could I still be a volunteer? Absolutely! Some volunteers are here just one hour per week. Others help several days. We try to make sure we have plenty of volunteers so they wont have to make a large time commitment. How is KidCare America funded? We do not charge families for our program. Each year we raise our funds through fundraisers and donations. Our annual budget is about $75,000. We have many, many monthly financial partners that make the program possible. Perhaps you could join us in prayer and financial support! What days and times does the program run? We are in operation Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday of each week, from 3-6 PM. So what all do you do with the students? Not much. Just transport them from school, feed them, teach them about God, about life, tutor them with schoolwork, play games with them, memorize Scripture, love on them, offer individual counseling, involve them in community service, and work on their reading skills. Its a blast!

Even though the Hebrew Scriptures plainly teach from Genesis 1 and Exodus 20 that the six days of creation were literal 24 hour days, many have tried to add millions of years into the Biblical account of Creation in order to make it fit with mans scientific theories. In the last 200 years, many Christians have adopted compromise positions which include the gap theory, the day-age theory, theistic evolution and progressive creation to reconcile Scripture with evolutionary theory. Why are these compromises dangerous? When we begin cutting and pasting the Bible, taking out the parts we dont like or altering what God says to fit our scientific theories, we undermine Biblical authority altogether. If we cant believe what God states about the days of Creation, how can we believe Him when he talks about the virgin birth or the resurrection of Jesus Christ? These are miraculous events as well. If we cant accept what God speaks concerning history and science, how can we accept His moral laws? II Timothy 3:16 reminds us that, All Scripture is God-breathed . . . Proverbs 30:5a states Every word of God is flawless. Isaiah 45:19c says, I, the Lord, speak the truth; I declare what is right. John 17:17b declares, Your word is truth. This includes any historical or scientific statements. If we believe that the fossil record demonstrates that there were millions of years of suffering,

disease and death because of the survival of the fittest before Adam and Eve, it means that God lied when He said in Genesis 1:31 that everything He had created was very good. Obviously suffering, disease and death are not very good. Scripture teaches that it was sin, mans rebellion against God, which brought death into the world, not evolutionary changes. Romans 5:12a says, Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin . . . This doctrine is foundational to the Gospel message. Otherwise we have no need of a Savior to rescue us from the consequences of sin. (See also I Corinthians 15:21, 22.) The fossil record had to come after the Fall. Well discuss in a future article how the Genesis Flood of Noahs day is a much better explanation for the fossil record. At this point you may say, But havent radiometric dating methods proved that the earth is millions of years old? The short answer is that radiometric dating methods are flawed; many other dating methods point to a young earth. Well look at these in more detail next month. But in the meantime, when discussing the age of the earth, are you going to believe God Who is truth, Who was present at Creation and is all-knowing, OR will you believe scientists who were not present at Creation, who are not all-knowing and who do not always speak the truth? We are in dangerous territory if we try to make Gods Word fit mans philosophies and theories. Beverly Flori

Recently, a group of 17 youth and adults from Rolla First Assembly traveled to inner city Denver, Colorado, to serve for a week of ministry with Urban Outreach of Denver and City Life Church. We spent the week serving in a day camp for inner city kids. Every day we spent oneon-one time with children, providing meals, Bible lessons and activities and simple, loving affection. We ministered to homeless men and women by distributing food and other necessities and inviting them to be a part of the weekly family dinner that UOD serves every Thursday free of cost to the homeless. The response was overwhelming and we were able to feed nearly 100 hungry people. The level of need is staggering in the inner city community of 5 Points where UOD is located. However, with great need comes a great potential to meet these needs and minister the life-changing gospel of Jesus. The pastors and directors of Urban Outreach are Isaac and Jaime (Lister) Olivarez. Jaime is the granddaughter of Carl and Dorse Wilkinson and Dorothy and (the late) Gene Lister of Rolla. The church we are helping them plant will begin services Sunday, September 29th. This is a ministry with a great deal of potential to see lives changed by the gospel. Pastors Isaac and Jaime are people dependent on the strength of the Gospel, prayer, and the power of the Holy Spirit. Please consid-

er praying for them on a regular basis, or giving financially to help them make an impact in the lives of hurting people. I was so pleased to be a part of serving with this great group of people, the level of teamwork, one-onone ministry, patience and compassion for people was amazing. If you want to see more pictures or find out more about this trip, search the hashtag #DenverMissions13 on Facebook. Thank you so much for all of the support and prayers you sent our way to help this trip become a reality. Pastor Dalton

Girl's Ministries Stars Club (3rd-5th Grade) meets every Wednesday evening through the school year. We desire that every girl that coming through our door meets Jesus and begins a relationship with Him. By the time the girls have completed the 3-year program, they will have completed 27 units, memorized the 27 Bible verses that go with each unit, read the entire New Testament, and completed an additional 9 Honor steps! When they complete all of these requirements we celebrate with a crowning service. This year's Crowning Celebration will be Sunday, August 18 at 6p.m. The following young ladies have completed all work, been tested and passed their examination and will be celebrated: Corinna Allen, Kyleigh Gibbs, Sarah Giliam, and Celeste Lietz. Please come and help us honor their accomplishment. You won't want to miss this special evening. Light refreshments will be served after conclusion of service in the Roberts Family Life Center (gym).
