2 Professional journal subscriptions will increase the chances of success in studies and selected career path. Professional journals will keep learners current with latest updates in the selected professional field. Professional journals contain the vocabulary and language of the field which will assist in writing research papers and classroom assignments (Online learning tips, 2012). Performance Improvement Quarterly (PIQ) is an official peer reviewed journal for the International Society for Performance Improvement. The first issue was released in June 1988 and currently releasing the 25th volume. The purpose of Performance Improvement Quarterly is to explore and increase the methods and problem solving in other disciplines and acknowledging performance improvement opportunities. The intended audience includes assistant professors, business consultants, chief learning officers, academic practitioners, human factors practitioners, human resource professionals, independent consultant, instructional designers, training consultants, development managers, and human resources specialists (Wiley, n.d.). The editor of the journal is Richard Pearlstein, PhD. He is the Director of Organizational Effectiveness for the Center for Systems Management. His experience includes managing Federal and Fortune 100 organizations strategic performance improvement initiatives. Dr. Pearlstein has an extensive background in human performance technology, human factors research, leadership and development, and instructional design and training. He has served as the consulting editor of Performance Improvement Quarterly (PIQ) for more than a decade (Wiley, n.d.). The International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) was founded in 1962 and dedicated to improving productivity and performance. Members of ISPI

3 include, but are not limited to training directors, human resource directors, instructional technologists,, and organizational consultants (ISPI, n.d.). The percentage of articles submitted and published are unknown (there were two attempts to retrieve information. David Ward, an employee of the journal stated he did not know. He directed me to email the editor and the editor did not reply). The authors guidelines and submission mandates original work. The articles must highlight primary and original work in the topical areas of organizational design and alignment, analysis, process improvement, performance management, measurement and evaluation, management of organizational performance, and instructional systems (Wiley, n.d.). The articles in the recent issue of the journal were based on the future and human performance technology. The topics ranged from Human performance technology and its future; The future of HPT: A work-alignment and transparency-building approach; The authors are responsible for manuscript conventions, and securing permission to use copyrighted material. The authors are also responsible for following the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) style guide and use the Merriam-Websters Collegiate Dictionary for standard reference (Wiley, n.d). The article submissions do not require a minimum word count, however have a maximum length of 10,000 words. All manuscripts must be submitted electronically using the journals Scholar One Website. The online submission website is http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/piq. ISPI members have unlimited, free access to PIQ online through the Wiley publications website. In order for ISPI members in North America to receive a print copy/subscription must pay $50.00. International ISPI members must pay $63.00. Non-

4 members can purchase an online, print, or online and print subscription. Non-members can also pay-per-view article for $35.00; access is allowed for 24 hours.
