Why LNG?
Present production of natural gas in Pakistan is 4

billion cubic feet / day Natural gas currently comprises 48% of Pakistans energy mix Sectors heavily reliant of natural gas are power generation, fertilizer and transportation (CNG) Pakistan is now the largest CNG user in the world Pakistan faces a decit of 2 billion cubic feet of gas per day due to surge in demand in the winter season

Background of LNG in Pakistan

The rst LNG import project in Pakistan

was known as the Mashal LNG project. Mashal was proposed to be an onshore project and was awarded to a company called 4Gas Under the Mashal project, 500 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) of LNG was to be imported

Background of LNG in Pakistan

Mashal faced legal challenges and was

struck down by the Pakistan Supreme Court in March 2011 Subsequently, Sui Southern Gas Co (SSGC) board of directors authorized solicitation of bids for oshore LNG projects. OGRA approved the bids of 3 companies for import of LNG

Oshore LNG Project

Import of LNG would primarily be used for

power generation owing to its high import cost. Gas would be supplied to KESC, Independent Power Producers (IPPs), and possibly Engros new fertilizer plant LNG capacity of 500 mmcfd would be capable of producing 2,500MW electricity

Oshore LNG Project

GEI has been allocated capacity of 500 mmcfd, Pakistan Gasport has been allocated capacity of

400 mmcfd and Engro has been allowed capacity of 500 mmcfd. SSGC & SNGPL would make the necessary upgrades to their infrastructure in order to accommodate LNG from the three terminals.

Terminal Infrastructure
PGL terminal is situated 5.5 km inside the

creek where the LNG Floating Storage & Regasication Unit (FSRU) will be present. From there a subsea pipe will bring the gas to the land terminal where an ESD valve will be present. After the ESD valve, there will be 4 metering runs. It is expected that each metering run will be 12" class 600.
