Walk up to Stirling Castle and you will pass McAree Brothers, a company whose history reaches back over 140 years. things as a child and it was then that my mother taught me the basics of knitting simple casting on, knitting and purling and casting off. I later came back to knitting as an adult when I was expecting my second child because I wanted to create something special and handmade for my daughter. It was at this time that I taught myself and my eldest daughter to crochet. We havent stopped knitting and crocheting since! Which is your favourite Rowan yarn and why? Thats a hard question for me my favourite yarn tends to be the one that I am currently knitting with! I love so many of the Rowan yarns. Im particularly drawn to colour and texture, and it is usually a combination of that which tempts me to try out a new yarn. Im a great fan of Rowans Big Wool for autumn and winter knits. There is something so satisfying about seeing rows of gorgeous Big Wool in all of its enticing colours on display in a yarn shop. In complete contrast, Ive recently been enjoying knitting with Kidsilk Haze and Fine Lace making a light spring/ summer wrap from Rowan Magazine 53. For crochet, my choice would have to be Rowans Handknit Cotton or Cotton Glace with its gorgeous sheen both yarns have amazing colour ranges as does the new Softknit Cotton range which has amazing stitch definition for both knitting and crochet.
What are you talking about on your blog at the moment? A lot is going on at Knit and Purl Garden at the moment my blog provides a record of my adventures in knitting, crochet and any creative happenings, including snippets of family life, baking, making and inspiring days out. Im so lucky that as an Ambassador for Rowan, I get to review new yarns and brochures, so also on my blog you will find posts about the gorgeous new yarns that Rowan has launched for this spring/summer season. Next up is my review of Rowan Studio 30, a collection for children by Sarah Hatton. Im knitting the Louisa Cape for my daughter using Rowans Baby Merino Silk DK. Im also reviewing Rowans Kidsilk Glamour. Recently, I have been writing about the granny bunting that my daughter and I have been crocheting for the Yarndale Festival of Creativity and Craft being organised in Yorkshire this September check out the Yarndale website and join in! Ive also written a little about crochet for children. Ive been completely amazed by the way in which my list of followers has grown since I started blogging in January there is such an amazing online community out there. The Blogger of the Week award that I received from LoveKnitting.Com came out of the blue and was such a wonderful surprise which has given me a big boost. Im having lots of fun with my blog and just seeing where it takes me

What do you think will be the biggest trend out there this AW13 season? Knitwear will be back in a big way for AW13, with a multitude of designs, styles and colours to suit everyone and every situation. Wool will be truly celebrated and knitwear will be very much in fashion with sweaters, jumpers and cardigans being the new must haves. Personally, I can think of nothing better than to cosy up in a favourite wool sweater in the autumn or winter, the perfect item to be worn with a skirt, dress or jeans, dressed up or down, or layered under coats, or with other accessories or colourful scarves adding a pop of colour. Fashion trends might include chunky and gorgeously textured jumpers, beautifully fitted sweaters, cardigans, wraps and other garments suitable for layering, a continuation of the popular vintage
theme, stunning jewel colours and neon accents as well as more natural hues for both crochet and knitwear something for everyone. Im very much looking forward to previewing Rowans AW13 collection including some stunning new yarns and Magazine 54 which will be based around 3 themes or stories: Folk, Romancing and Essentials. Look out for some great reviews of Rowans new yarns and designs for autumn and winter on my blog and Facebook page very soon!
