SLOW RELEASE & OPERATE DELAY UNITS
Web: www.sts-rail.com
ReIay Description.

The TY370/GRP01 is used in safety critical applications where a
delay is required between the opening of a control contact and
the release of a normally energised slave relay.
The slave relay is powered from the TY370/GRP01 and thus
does not require a separate supply.
The TY372 is used in applications where an operate delay
longer than that achievable by slugging is required.

TY370/GRP01 is a slow release timer module which adds a release delay to a slave relay. When a
control contact connected to terminals D3/D4 is opened the delay is added between the control
contact opening and the relay connected to terminals R3 and R4 being opened. The safety critical
nature of this design does not allow the release delay to alter by more than 20% from the set time.
The TY370/GRP01 is operated from a 12 V DC or full-wave rectified AC supply and generates a 12 V,
24 V or 50 V supply to operate the slave relay.

F = Front contact, which is
made when the relay is
energised. This is a normally
open contact.
B = Back contact, which is
made when the relay is
de-energised and the armature
has completed its maximum
travel. This is a normally
closed contact.
Contact Arrangements.
On applying power to the relay the display illuminates all segments for 0.5 seconds
to allow the engineer to identify any dead segments.

For the remainder of the delay the total delay time is displayed.

Once the relay has timed out the display shows - - - -.

When no power is applied to the relay no segments are illuminated.

On applying power to the coil connections all the segments on the display illuminate allowing the op-
erator to identify and dead segments, then show the operate delay time. Once the relay has timed out
the display indicates - - - -. Adjusting the potentiometer whilst the operate delay time is showing
displays a live indication of the actual time delay allowing rapid setting

The dispIay is for indication onIy. On setting the reIay the actuaI time deIay shouId be
manuaIIy checked as it wouId be on a reIay without a dispIay.

Units are shipped with the potentiometer turned all the way down.

Strapping shouId be as short as practicaI and made using appropriate signaIIing cabIe.
As shipped the time deIays are set to the IeveIs beIow by fixing the strapping detaiIed between
the pIugboard connectors. RepIacing the reIay wiII therefore automaticaIIy set the new reIay to
the same time range.
A potentiometer accessed through a hoIe in the cover can increase the time deIay from nominaI
by up to 9.4 seconds in 0.1 second increments. Once adjusted the hoIe in the cover must be
re-seaIed by a tamperproof 'CALIBRATION VOID IF BROKEN' IabeI provided.
AIways re-adjust the potentiometer when the reIay is repIaced.
