RACS, Remote Access Control System

The operator may data control an unlimited number of radios from a remote site on different parameters via the Jotron made program RACS. This is a Windows based PC program which makes it possible for the operator to have supervision with all radios connected via Modems. The program is loaded with whichever map requested and you may there access each radio by clicking. The program needs only to have the below RACS Control Unit mounted at each radio site, to be able to correspond with the radios. You would need both the RCU site controller and the RACS program.

The Site controller provides a multipurpose interface between the Jotron radios and a remote monitoring system. The unit works as a data collector and multiplexer, provides software protocol translation(s) and hardware adaption to different interfaces. In addition several user-customizable digital I/O lines are provided (for additional alarms, signals etc). The Site controller is able to communicate to/from LAN (Ethernet), RS485, RS422, RS232 and a separate modem line using both Industry standard (SNMP) and proprietary protocols. 82418 Com 260 Communication Switch Com 260 is a modular and highly flexible communication switch

for up to 16 subscribers. These subscribers can be Jotron ground to Air radios, Dispatch terminals (TE10-39), PABX lines, hot line telephones etc. Base stations can be connected either locally or via 4-wire leased lines. The Com 260 can be equipped with a large variety of HW card, depending of the signal formats in the actual configuration (4 wire audio, I/O, PABX, ISDN etc.) The switch is based on custom made software and modular HW and is for this reason very flexible with respect to functionality.

Typical functions to be user defined are:

Addressable intercom, group calls, priority settings (different functionality for different users), automatic/manual main/stby switching, selection of operative or listen only channels, alarm messages etc. Com 260 can be supplied with voting (best signal selection) with automatic delay compensation for each remote site.

Antenna Cavity Filters, Combiners, Splitters

External cavity filters and isolators are used to avoid noise interference, receiver blocking and inter modulation. In addition we can configure the cavity filters as RX or TX combiners to enable several channels on a single antenna. A cavity filter is a resonant filter and can be tuned to obtain different frequency response curves (band pass, pass reject, low/high pass, and notch) to either pass or reject a frequency or band of frequencies. The tuning is depending of the actual configuration and the need for filtering. Noise interference and receiver blocking is first of all relevant on collocated sites. Minimum RX-TX antenna separation to avoid filters is approx. 500 metres. If the antenna separation is less than 500 metres, the need for filtering is depending of the antenna separation [metres] and channel separation [kHz]. To be able to perform a detailed filter calculation these parameters are essential. If the antennas are installed very close (<10 metres), vertical antenna separation should be considered to increase the path loss (and to reduce the need for filtering). To avoid TX inter modulation we recommend to use isolators on the transmitters. Depending of the potential inter modulation products we use single or dual isolators. The filters can be configured as single channel or RX or TX combiners. Usually a TX combiner is fitted with a dual isolator on each channel. The combiner has at least one cavity filter per channel. In addition, extra cavity filters might be needed on some channels depending on the frequency and RX-TX antenna separation.
