Given 7 cards labeled with 7 different letters B E S T A R I. Find the number of possible ways of (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) (f) forming a code with 4 different letters, getting a 6 different lettered password that starts and ends with a vowel, getting an arrangement of all the cards with the 3 letters R, S and T side by side, choosing any 5 cards with both A and B included, choosing any 4 cards with exactly 2 consonants, choosing any 3 cards with at least a vowel. TIME: 1 HOUR

2.

In a badminton academy, there are 10 male players and 6 female players. Among them there is a pair of twin sisters. In how many ways of getting (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) a team of 6 male players and 4 female players, a team of 8 male players and 6 female players with at least 1 of the twin sisters, 3 pairs of male double, 3 pairs of mixed double without any of the twin sisters included, a group of photograph in a single row if the twin sisters cannot stand side by side.

3.

Box A contains 5 cards with labels 1, 2, 2, 3 and 5 and box B contains 6 cards with labels 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 6. A card is drawn randomly from each box. Find the probability that (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) an odd number from box A and an even number from box B, an even and odd are chosen, both are not even, the sum of the 2 numbers is 7, at least an odd is chosen.

4.

Given X ~ N(17, 22), find the value of (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) the standard score for 16, X if its standard score is 1.5, P(18 X 20), k if P(X k) = 0.3, m if P(17 X m) = 0.35.

2 An eyesight test shows that 15% of the students in school M are short-sighted. If 9 students from the school are chosen at random, calculate the probability that (i) only one of them is short-sighted, (ii) more than 7 of them are not short-sighted. In another survey on the students of school M, it is found that the daily pocket allowance of the students follows a normal distribution with a mean of RM7.50 and a standard deviation of RM2.40. Find (i) the probability that a student chosen at random has a daily pocket allowance of not less than RM6.90. (ii) the value of x if 35% of the students from the school have a daily pocket allowance more than RMx.

6.

A rancher has 500 cows with the mass of the cows being normally distributed with a mean of 300 kg and variance 81 kg2. (a) (b) (c) Given that 60% of the cows have mass less than x1 kg and 10% of the cows have mass greater than x 2 kg, find the values of x1 and x 2 . If a cow in this ranch is picked at random, find the probability that its mass is between x1 kg and x 2 kg. If 200 of these cows have mass between (300 m) kg and (300 + m) kg, find the value of m.
