USN NFM-000-FA18E-100 FORWARD First, a disclaimer: This pocket checklist was developed purely for entertainment purposes. It contains data compiled from multiple sources, including Janes F/A-18 Simulator Flight Manual, Graphic Simulations F/A-18 Korea Pilots Operating Handbook, information from the U.S. Navys CHINFO web site, as well as numerous other web sources. The data contained herein is not represented to be accurate in any way, and is provided for the enjoyment of the reader. I was inspired to compile this checklist by two things. Firstly, Im a real-world Naval Aviator. Im used to checklists. They give me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Secondly, after downloading and installing the SuperPak 2 for Falcon 4, I was thoroughly impressed with the detail contained in the manual and checklists. I wanted the same for my beloved F/A-18E. I hope you enjoy using this checklist while flying your missions. Hopefully it will help you succeed where previously you may have failed. This simulation continues to surprise me every time I play it. Im always learning something new. And now that the talented folks associated with Team Super Hornet have released their upgrade, things are getting even more interesting. Thanks TSH!

If a second target is designated, the new target becomes DT1 and the previous target becomes DT2. Selecting RST (PB 14) will cause DT1 and DT2 to swap. RAID Option: RAID is a zoomed TWS display centered on the L&S target. Useful for breaking out targets in tight formation. When activated, radar enters 3 bar 22 high data rate scan centered on the L&S target. Antenna Scan Centering (PB 13): Selects automatic or manual scan centering.

USN NFM-000-FA18E-100 SINGLE TARGET TRACK (STT) Provides the fastest target updates. STT is activated by manually designating the L&S target using the TDC controls or by using any automatic Acquisition sub mode. When in STT, the RADAR locks on to the L&S target, and no other targets will be displayed. Manual control of the antenna settings is disabled. AUTOMATIC ACQUISITION SUB MODES AUTO (AACQ) Allows rapid transition from any search or TWS sub mode to STT. If there is an L&S target, that target will be locked on to. If there is not an L&S target, AACQ will attempt to lock on to the closest target to the RADAR cursor position. BORESIGHT (BST) BST commands the RADAR to lock on to the first target it encounters within a 3.3 circle centered on the aircrafts waterline. Maximum range in BST is 10 nm. VERTICAL (VACQ) Designed for use during turning engagements with target located above the aircrafts nose. The RADAR antenna scans vertically up and down vice side to side. Maximum range in VACQ is 5 nm. GUN (GACQ) Automatically initiated when GUN selected in A/A Master mode. Locks first target within 5 nm. WIDE (WACQ) Uses a 6 bar, 600 scan setting. Locks first target within 10 nm. 03 MAR 02 Page 11 of 31

USN NFM-000-FA18E-100 AIR TO GROUND RADAR REFERENCE REAL BEAM GROUND MAP (MAP) Basic A/G RADAR mode. Terrain displayed based on altitude. Man-made features show as brighter dots or boxes. Azimuth scan widths: 20, 45, 90, 120 Range: 5, 10, 20, 40, 80 nm Range and Azimuth Grid: 0, +/- 30, +/- 60 Expand 1/2/3: Zooms in to selected portion of map display. Freeze (FRZ): Freezes the RADAR video display. Silent (SIL): When selected, RADAR does not transmit. Declutter (DCLTR): Removes the artificial horizon and velocity vector from the display.

USN NFM-000-FA18E-100 GROUND MOVING TARGET (GMT) Provides synthetic display of target returns which are moving. Ground and fixed targets are not displayed unless interleaved (INT) is selected. Azimuth Scan Widths: 20, 45, 90, 120 Range: 5, 10, 20, 40 nm

USN NFM-000-FA18E-100 SEA SURFACE SEARCH (SEA) Optimized for detecting discrete targets on large bodies of water. Sea and land mass return is automatically rejected. Coastlines are displayed. TERRAIN AVOIDANCE (TA) Designed to help avoid rising terrain. Terrain above aircrafts altitude is displayed in intermediate intensity. Terrain at aircrafts altitude is displayed in lower intensity. Terrain below aircraft is not displayed. Azimuth scan fixed at 70, range between 5 and 10 nm. FIXED TARGET TRACK (FTT)/GROUND MOVING TARGET TRACK (GMTT) Moving and fixed ground targets are tracked using either FTT or GMTT. Similar to A/A RADAR STT mode. A/G ATFLIR POINTING MODES Ground Stabilized: FLIR POD will remain pointing at same spot on the ground. Aircraft Stabilized: Maintains the current azimuth and elevation settings for the POD as the aircraft maneuvers. (Often referred to as snowplow mode) TGT Slave Pointing: When selected, the ATFLIR slews to the target LOS. If no A/G target is designated, ATFLIR slews to waypoint LOS. Slewing via TDC in this mode will switch the FLIR to GND STAB mode. Velocity Vector (VV) Slave Pointing: When selected, ATFLIR commanded to aircraft boresight unless a CCIP release mode is selected, in which case the FLIR LOS slews to the computed impact point. If slewed via the TDC, the FLIR will enter SNPLOW mode. Snowplow (SNPLOW) Pointing: Commands the FLIR to maintain a fixed azimuth and elevation with respect to the aircraft boresight. 03 MAR 02 Page 14 of 31
