ABSTRACT
The project deals with the analysis, design and estimation of box Culvert Bridge and its comparison with plate Girder Bridge. The proposed bridge is located at CH: 6/500 KM of Ramankary Edathua road. Box Culvert Bridge is of multiple span constructions. The box culvert units were designed for maximum forces determined in accordance with IRC design guidelines. Comparison of box Culvert Bridge and Plate Girder Bridge is done to determine which one is economical. Culverts are designed to meet the current and future hydraulic and transportation needs of that location. In designing the different parts of a bridge we must investigate carefully how the loads are transmitted from one member to the next. All members and all connection have the same factor of safety. Plate Girder Bridge became popular in the late 1800s when they are used in construction of railroad bridges. The plates are joined together using angles and rivets to obtain plate girder of desired size. Generally plate girder bridges are designed for IRC class A loading, so the design load is taken as class A.
