2012 and 2013 SONAs of Aquino (An analysis) by Poll Anthony R. Santillan The aim of this paper is to analyze the distinctions between his two latest State of the Nation Address; the 2012 and 2013 SONAs.In order to avoid preconception, my analysis will be based on the SONAs content. But later in my conclusion, some opinions of mine will be hashed out. The heart and soul of a SONA is to highlight all the countrys achievements under the watch of the President. In the case and philosophy of President Aquino, it is a discussion on the fruits of his Daang Matuwid that we have reaped and will still reap in the future. The 2013 SONA of President Aquino overlooked relevant issues. There are issues that were discussed in 2012 but missing in 2013 SONA. It is good to hear that the longest SONA ever has given enough information with regard or relation to the situation of the country. But it seemed that he failed to cover some issues. The status of the budget for state colleges and universities, the state of mining in the country, the tree-planting project named the National Convergence Initiative, illegal logging, the territorial dispute with China and the Maguindanao massacre were some of the highlights of the presidents speech in 2012 which lacked follow-ups in Aquinos most recent speech. Other issues and concerns also such as infrastructures and economic reforms were neglected in his speech. All of these overlooked issues seemed not to meet the requirements and expectations of each citizen in the country. Corruption scandals loomed large in the previous SONAs of President Aquino, which I find pestiferous and absurd. I know that the yesteryear has a role to make the present or future better, but a question wanders around: Why cant he just focus on matters that are more beneficial to discuss with? The current administration should be grateful for the former administration. Some of the causes of the economic growth that Filipinos are going through are fruits of the former administration. It is a matter of microeconomics and macroeconomics. One will never know what he has done for the country unless his term is done. What the people experience during a present administration is microeconomics. The benefits that the people will still be receiving right after the administrations term is macroeconomics. In short macroeconomics takes time that it can be seen until the function of one is done. Therefore, the best time for people to sound off is after each Leaders term. Nonetheless, his midterm performance is an excellence. President Aquino raised a good point in his 2013 SONA when he called for nation-building and encouraged everybody to actively participate. Cheers to that! It is true that if you havent done anything for the country, you do not have the right to complain. We will never attain progress and success if everybody is not cooperating. Let the President execute his functions. Lets do ours, as well.
