STROKE

Sun stroke is a life threatening condition in which the bodys heat regulating system fails, due to exposure to high temperature.

Heatstroke Sun Stroke

Caused by overexposure to sun and extremely high temperatures occurs when the brain fails to control its own "thermostat". Its a life-threatening condition which can cause a casualty to become unconscious within minutes. As well as an unusually high temperature, a casualty may show signs of restlessness, headaches and hot, flushed skin.

Risk factors
- elderly - high ambient temperature and humidity, - poor ventilation - lack of acclimatization - obesity - fatigue - Diabetes - malnutrition - alcoholism

Heat Related Illness and their Symptoms


Sunburn - Redness and pain in the skin. In severe
cases there is also swelling, blisters, fever, and headaches. usually in the leg or abdomen muscles.

Heat Cramps - Heavy sweating and painful spasms Heat Exhaustion - The person becomes weak and is
sweating heavily. The skin is cold, pale and clammy. Fainting and vomiting may accompany.

degrees or higher) along with hot dry skin and a rapid and strong pulse. Unconsciousness is possible

Symptoms of Heatstroke or Sunstroke


Headache, nausea, dizziness Red, dry, very hot skin Cessation of sweating Very high fever Rapid and shallow breathing Rapid heartbeat Elevated or lowered blood pressure Confusion and disorientation Seizure Fainting, which may be the first sign in older adults

Danger sign of Heat Stroke Left untreated, heat stroke may progress to coma. Death may result due to kidney failure, acute heart failure, or direct heat induced damage to the brain.

HEATSROKE IS LIFE THREATENING! Remove victim to cooler location, out of the sun Loosen or remove clothing and immerse victim in very cool water if possible If immersion isn't possible, cool victim with water, or wrap in wet sheets and fan for quick evaporation Use cold compresses-especially to the head & neck area, also to armpits and groin

Preventing heat-related illness


Dress for the heat Wear lightweight, light-coloured clothing. It is also a good idea to wear hats or to use an umbrella. Drink water Carry water or juice with you and drink continuously even if you do not feel thirsty. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, which dehydrate the body. Avoid foods that are high in protein, which increase metabolic heat. Stay indoors when possible. Take regular breaks when engaged in physical activity on warm days. Take time out to find a cool place.

Coofee and Alcohol Coffee and alcohol both act as diuretics substances that increase urination, which leads to a loss of excessive water from the body. Plus with additives like sugar and other such chemicals, both coffee and alcohol increase your bodys temperature from within.

summer food as it cools you from inside and also it could be consumed in varying options. From chaas , to lassi to curd rice... just take your pick. Eating vegetables with high water content will help you stay cool. Like cucumbers, Watermelon The best summer diet solution includes large salads. Onions too are just great in summer, because of their ability to beat the heat and provide relief from summer ailments. . A lemon and honey drink combination has the power of instantly replenishing your body's lost water. Sugar Cane Juice also is very helpful to restore hydration.
