I) ATTENTION OF PH.D.

PART TIME (CATEGORY C) SCHOLARS IN UNIVERSITY Ref: Syndicate (in circulation)s Resolution passed to Item No: 15 dated 09.03.2012 1. The University has dispensed with the Ph.D. Programme under Category C. 2. The University has permitted Category C Ph.D. Scholars to complete their Ph. D. Programme under the Rules & Regulations which were in force at the time of their registration. 3. The Rules and Regulation stipulated for them shall not come into effect retrospectively. 4. The Viva Voce exam shall be conducted to them after the completion of all the formalities. And all other C candidates may be permitted to submit their theses as per rules. 5. Research fee has not been enhanced to the existing candidates but a sum of Rs. 20,000/- towards submission fee shall be collected towards submission fee from all C scholars who joined on or after 01.04.2010. 6. At the time of submission of synopsis, they should produce the attested xerox copies of the following: a. Their admission notification with details of Reg. No, amount of Research fee to be paid, date of commencement of their Ph.D. programme, title of their thesis, name of the Guide/Co Guide if any, the address of the candidate, the exemption/ appearance from/for Pre Ph.D. Exam at the end of Ist year, etc, duly incorporated. b. Letter/s for change of title/ guide/ co-guide etc. c. Letter for exemption to appear for Pre Ph.D. Examination. d. Letter/intimating passing of Pre Ph.D. Exam. e. Proof for having paid Research fee as on the date of submission of synopsis/theses.

7. Panel of Examiners should be duly prepared by their guide. The following intimation may please be brought to the notice of the guide while preparing the Panel:

i. The panel of examiners for evaluation of Ph.D. theses to be submitted by the C Category Candidates should be submitted only by the respective Guide/Co-guide without including the experts from the University/Institute of the guide/co-guide and the candidate. ii. The panel of experts both within and outside the state must be from any university or Research Institution, recognized by the UGC. iii. The Experts/Examiners should not be less than the cadre of Associate Professor. iv. The resume/biodata of all the examiners (5 examiners within the state and 5 examiners outside the state) should be given along with the panel of experts without fail. 8. The Candidates are also requested to bring with them a copy of Rules & Regulations of the Ph.D. Programme basing on which they had sent their application of Registration.

9. If any dispute is caused by the scholar at the time of submission of their synopsis/theses their grievance in writing shall be placed before syndicate Sub Committee for research for taking final decision. The synopsis and thesis of such candidates shall be received only the final decision of the syndicate Sub Committee on Research and approved of the same by syndicate is taken.

III) STRUCTURE FOR COURSE WORK, PRE PH.D PRESENTATION AND PART I EXAMINATION Course Work It is a preliminary requirement for a scholar who registers for Ph.D. Course work for a scholar can be decided by the guide in consultation with the scholar according to the nature of the research work. The basic idea is equipping the scholar in the proposed area of research. The general structure of the course work may be as follows: 1. 2. The total duration of the course work should be not less than six months. It may include any one of the following: a. Taking a Diploma or certificate course relating to the area of research. b. Attending summer scholars or special training programmes organized by reputed institutions not less than ten days. c. Studying a specialized paper related to the proposed research offered by a Department in the University or affiliated Colleges or Research Institutions. d. A non formal short term course taken from an expert in the field. Certificates from the concern should be produced on completion of any of these courses. 3. Collection of bibliography, review of Literature, equipping on the research tools/methodology going to be used are a part of the course work. On completion of this it should be certified by Guide and Co-Guide.

Pre Ph.D. Presentation: The Pre-presentation is a method to enrich the scholar and to tune his research work. This presentation may be conducted not later than six months before the submission of thesis at the Research Centre concerned in the presence of Guide, Co-Guide, Staff members, Research Scholars, M.Phil Students. The scholar is expected to present the first draft of the research work or can explain the findings/problems faced. The gathering may suggest ideas/references to be consulted/suggestions to improve the work and so on. A report on this event along with an attendance sheet should be forwarded by the Guide to the Research Co-Ordinator.

Part I Examination All the Ph.D candidates who do not have the M.Phil Degree should appear for Part 1 examination and area specialization paper after completion of one year from the date of commencement of their research work. After this completion of one year the Guide should intimate the candidate to appear for the Part 1 examination. Part 1 examination is purely connected with methodology. A date may be fixed for the same and a syllabus with model question paper should be given to the candidate atleast one month before the date of examination. As soon as the intimation is given the candidate should pay the prescribed fee to the University. The Question paper is to be set by the Guides. The paper must carry 100 marks with two parts A & B as follows: Part A 5 x 8 = 40 (with inter choice) Part B 4 x 15 = 60 (with inter choice) Minimum pass mark is 50. The answer paper can be valued by the Guide and the marks scored along with answer paper, syllabus and question paper should be sent to the Co-Ordinator. The results will be declared by the Co-Ordinator. Area Specialisation Paper: The candidates who are appearing for the Part 1 exam and those who are intimated to appear for a area specialization paper are to be fulfilled the requirement. This is an assignment paper concerned with the area of research. The Guide may choose a topic and ask the candidate to prepare it and submit the same to the Guide. This paper carries 100 marks. The guide can evaluate the assignment and sent the marks scored along with the paper submitted.
