The faculty and staff of Swainsboro High School are committed to providing the best education possible to preparing

our students to be college and career ready. Efforts to promote student achievement and academic success require a collective commitment. For this reason Dressing for Success is important as our students prepare themselves for successful career paths of the future. Appropriate attire will be an emphasis for SHS students. Students must come to school prepared to learn and dressed for success. Hair and clothing must not distract from the learning process by inappropriate appearance, statement, color, or style. The dress code for Swainsboro High School gives clear and firm guidelines for acceptable and reasonable expectations for student appearance. The rationale for dress standards is to foster good citizenship and support the schools' ability to achieve its academic and instructional purposes. The goal is to promote student learning, safety, and behavior by assisting students in making choices about appropriate school attire. The expectation is for students to dress in a clean, decent, modest, and dignified manner reflecting selfrespect. Pants that have rips, tears, frayed ends, or holes above the knee etc., are not to be worn. Blue jean or khaki shorts are strongly recommended. Shorts must reach the lower thigh and must be worn at the natural waist (no more than 2 inches below the navel). Pants and shorts must be sized to fit, and must not be excessively loose or tight. Pants and shorts must not be worn in a way that allows any undergarment to be seen whether standing, sitting or walking. Leggings and jeggings are not considered pants or shorts and are not acceptable unless they are covered by outerwear that meets appropriate criteria, i.e. a skirt or dress meeting the criteria below. This includes, but is not limited to, offensive words and designs, violence (blood, death, and weapons), sex, hate groups, tobacco products, drugs, alcohol, gangs, or advertisements for establishments that suggest any of the previous examples. Sheer, crochet, or lace tops must have an appropriate camisole underneath which completely covers all undergarments.
