his book contains beloved Thai meditation master Buddhadasa
Bhikkhu’s explanation of one of the most universal of all
Buddhist meditation practices, “mindfulness with breathing.”
Using a straight-forward style of presentation suited to a Western
audience, Buddhadasa Bhikkhu provides all you need to know to
become free of stress and worry through the “simple and beautiful act
of sitting quietly, alive to the breathing,” as taught by Buddha in his
Andapanasati Sutta .
“In this book, Ajahn Buddhadasa will take you by the hand and lead
you, as he did me, all the way from the first attempt to observe the in-
breaths and out-breaths, to the kinds of insight that have the power to
liberate. You will begin with merely a set of instructions, but then you
must take these clear words of teaching and put them into practice. If
you do, you will not be disappointed. The beauty of this work is its
seamless integration of theory and practice. You have in your hands a
precious yogic manual.” —From the Foreword by Larry Rosenberg,
Director, Cambridge Insight Meditation Center
