Earlier, at the 2013 General Assembly of YMCAs, Interactive Fitness presented award checks to the 98 Ys who participated in st th the Great Expresso FUNRaiser from July 1 to July 17 . Interactive Fitness donated 10 cents for every participating mile ridden on the Expresso Bike; the 98 participating Ys had over 1,800 riders logging over 50,000 miles riding on the Expresso Bike during the competition. The overall leader was Elizabeth Randolph Lewis Powhatan YMCA, a branch of the YMCA of Richmond in Powhatan, Virginia, which had 57 riders log 5,381 miles during the Great Expresso FUNRaiser. The full final standings, as well as additional information, are available online at http://www.expresso.com/FUNRaiser. The Great Expresso FUNRaiser is yet another way that YMCA programs across the nation are learning the benefits of the Expresso Bike from Interactive Fitness, a sure-fire way to engage members and build community involvement in health and wellness programs. Troy Weaver, the Executive Director of the Williamsport Branch of the River Valley Regional YMCA, was one of the participants in both the on-site Dash for Cash and in the Great Expresso FUNRaiser. (Weaver is pictured at left riding on the Expresso HD Bike in the Interactive Fitness booth at the 2013 General Assembly of YMCAs in Philadelphia.) Ive been the Executive Director at Williamsport since April, but been with the Y for 21 years. Im a tri-athlete, and Ive been using the Expresso Bike for my personal training for many years, Weaver said. For my personal training I use it primarily in the winter months when I cant go outside on my real bike. Since we started tracking results online, I just hit 2,000 miles riding the Expresso Bike overall. I dont normally ride the Expresso Bike in the summer months, but I was with over 35 registered riders on our two Expresso Bikes at Williamsport, and a few more riders who rode as Generic Rider, to help us move up in the th th Great Expresso FUNRaiser from 15 to 10 place. We ended up with 1,352 miles in the 17day period. With me still being the new Executive Director in Williamsport, riding on the Expresso Bike the past few days gave me the chance to talk with everyone who came in to our facility, not just about the Challenge but that we were raising money for scholarships to send kids to our camps, said Weaver. The Expresso Bike is a huge engagement tool -- it brings fun into the fitness center. People were talking about it every day over the past few weeks. We only have two right now, but were competing against Ys with five or six Expresso Bikes, so th finishing 10 was a big deal for us, Weaver said. We want to give all our members a consiste nt membership experience, so even though we only have two in our system right now we hope to add to that soon. For me, the Expresso Bike is the closest thing to a real bike, its the only bike Ive found that emulates riding outside while you are riding indoors, said Weaver. I like the online tracking of my miles, because Im really into tracking my miles. Were using the Expresso Bike as an engagement tool, promoting fitness to our members at the same time we are creating a positive, entertaining membership experience. The Expresso Bike from Interactive Fitness is an exciting new way to engage members of all ages, including youth and active older adults, enabling them to meet their health and wellness goals while also enabling the Ys to increase program participa tion.
