After many years in music school, I have learned that not a single one of my colleagues had the kind of high school musical experience I had. I consider myself one of the luckiest musicians to have attended a school with such a great music program. To this day, when I encounter a dicult orchestra piece I rst played at New Trier, I think, ank goodness New Trier gave me the opportunity to learn this music. It is at that moment that I remember how lucky I am. Laura Usiskin NT Class of 01 Music dened my New Trier experience. I knew I was going to be a professional musician, and the music program gave me a rm foundation and helped me to be passionate and fully understand my aspirations. Melissa Birkhold NT Class of 07 Music was central to my New Trier experience. I knew that I wanted to become a professional musician, and I felt like I had the best possible training ground at New Trier. Scott Macomber NT Class of 91 Great experience. We had all the opportunities in the world. at never escapes me. Betsy Morgan NT Class of 99 What role did music play in my New Trier experience? It dened me. Justin Stein NT Class of 08

Working with the New Trier High School Orchestra program, it is clear to me that this is serious and honest music-making, which encourages students to achieve a very high level of musical excellence and citizenship. e learning environment is completely conducive to musical and social growth, and encourages imagination, curiosity, and soulfulness. With public school music education being more and more marginalized, the New Trier program serves as an inspiration and a reminder of the vital importance which the arts play in our students lives. Cli Colnot Conductor Chicago Symphony Orchestra Contemporary Music NOW What is New Triers place in the arts community? Highly respected! Dale Clevenger Principal Horn, Chicago Symphony Orchestra By any outside measure, New Triers Music Program represents the highest order of excellence. Bernard Dobrowski Dean Emeritus Northwestern Univ. School of Music When all the ensembles are performing at such a high level, this is an indication of the quality of the music program. I have never seen any high school music program even come close to New Trier. Charles Vernon Trombone, Chicago Symphony Orchestra New Triers reputation for excellence within the community, the region, the state and the nation continues to grow. Cheryl Frazes Hill Chair Music Education and Director of Choral Activities at Chicago College of Performing Arts, Associate conductor of the Chicago Symphony Chorus.

Music at New Trier gave me a community of friends and teachers that supported me as a student, musician, and a person. I treated music with the same devotion and intensity that I gave to my academic studies. When I arrived at Conservatory, I realized what a charmed life I had led as a New Trier music student, taking advantage of amazing faculty and performing opportunities. New Trier provided the dedicated and solid groundwork for pursuing a life full of music. Eric Anderson NT Class of 07 e New Trier music program is tightly woven into our identity as a school that has a deep tradition of excellence. It is a source of pride to me as a community member and as a parent of musicians. It also is a gift to our students. As they advance through the music program, they learn the value of dedicating themselves to goals and working hard to achieve them. Carol Ducommun Board of Education member, New Trier Township High School District e music program at New Trier is a treasure not just for the students who benet from the world-class instruction they receive, but for the community as a whole. New Triers longstanding commitment to the arts is a source of pride for the school, and I am in awe each and every time I attend one of these performances. Linda Yonke Superintendent, New Trier Township High School District It is easy to assess the excellence of the New Trier music program by simply experiencing one of their many concerts. What most people dont see are the hundreds of hours of instruction and preparation. Hank Bangser New Trier Superintendent, 1990-2006; former faculty member New Triers music program continues to be superb! e concerts are manifestations of its excellence, but they by no means sum up its excellence.
