PROJECT BACKGROUND

The Government of the Republic of Ghana has received a Grant from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) toward the cost of the USAID Learning Project involving the construction of 15 No. District Education Office Blocks; 50 No. 1-stream Kindergarten Classroom Blocks; 49 No. Junior High School (JHS) Classroom Blocks; 45 No. 3-seater Toilet Blocks to improve education delivery in 34 deprived districts in 10 regions of the country. Al-Iddisah & Company Limited submits this document for Pre-qualification for the USAID Learning Project.

COMPANY PROFILE OF AL-IDDISAH & COMPANY LIMITED

INTRODUCTION AL-IDDISAH & COMPANY LIMITED, a wholly owned Ghanaian limited liability construction company incorporated under the Companies Code, 1963 on the 17th day of October, 2007 and has acquired Certificate to Commence Business on the 13th of February, 1997. Al-Iddisah & Company Limited is a Building and Civil Engineering Company which undertakes all kinds of construction works for both governmental and non-governmental agencies.

OBJECTIVES OF FIRM AL-IDDISAH & COMPANY LIMITED has as one of its main objectives to ensure cost effectiveness of any of its projects, from inception to completion and thereby giving Clients value for money. Thus strict budgetary control is ensured by applying at all stages of construction Projects cost control measures without sacrificing quality of the end product. The Company, from a strategic position as a key Building and Civil Engineering Contractor has set its vision in related areas including Real Estate development in the country and beyond.

MISSION AL-IDDISAH & COMPANY LIMITED has as its core mission, which has been derived from several years of active participation in Ghanas construction and development industry, to help propel Ghana successfully into a middle-income nation as it relates to the Building and Civil Engineering sector. The Company is encouraged in formulating its mission from the forum set up by the Government to support widespread public/private sector, and institutional Contractors engaged in collaboration and consensus building among the relevant stakeholders. Company Ownership and Classification The company is a limited liability company owned by the Iddisahs, a Ghanaian family. The company has two Directors: Al-Hassan Iddisah (CEO) Baba Seidu Iddisah (Managing Director) Presently, the Company is classified as Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing Financial Class 1 (with minimum annual turnover of 2.5 million Ghana Cedis) in both Category D (General Building Works) and Category K (Civil Works)

KEY SUCCESSES The entrepreneur, of the Company, Mr Al-Hassan Iddisah, through his vast experience acquired in the field of construction over many years has adopted an interactive approach within its various departments which has enable the Company to offer and handle a full range of skills to ensure continued tradition of quality. AL-IDDISAH & COMPANY LIMITED is reputed for providing a complete range of high quality building and construction services with great aesthetic appeal for individuals and organizations at great speed. The Company is client oriented due to its Project Management approach and complete customer satisfaction.

MAJOR CLIENTS AL-IDDISAH & COMPANY LIMITED has grown steadily over the years and because of its considerable experience has established itself firmly in Ghana and ranks as one of the major construction firms in the country.

The Firm has successfully worked with all manner of clients, both public and private. Al-Iddisah & Company Limiteds has successfully completed projects for major organizations, institutions and missions including but not limited to the following: Forestry Commission GETFUND Ministry of Health Ministry of Lands and Forestry Ministry of Education Ministry of Tourism Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi University of Ghana, Legon Domod Aluminium Cal Bank Ltd. Amalgamated (GH) Ltd. ESB of Ireland Electrification Project under supervision of VRA Ghana-Finland Sustainable Forest Project in Modern Sawmill Machines, etc.

EXPERIENCE WITH LEADING PROJECT CONSULTANTS The companys long experience in the Construction Industry has given it the opportunity to work with some of the nations leading industry Consultants. Among these Consultants are; Twum Boafo & Partners; VRA; Director of Works and Physical Development of KNUST, Kumasi; Director of Works, Physical Development and Municipal Services Development (PDMSD) of University of Ghana, Legon-Accra; A.E.S.L and P.W.D.

COMPANY ADDRESS AND FACILITIES The Head Office of the Company is strategically located opposite Vodafone Head Office, Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra. Within the companys premises are an administration block, central store for building materials, timber treatment sheds, vehicle repair and maintenance workshops, carpentry, steel bending/cutting and sandcrete block workshops. ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE AND PERSONNEL CAPACITY The Company employs a labour force of over 200 people. Important functions and positions in the firm include Project Manager, Quantity Surveyor, Architect, Supervisor Foreman, Land Surveyor, Structural Engineer, Personnel Manager, Purchasing Officer, Quality Control Manager, Computer Programmer, Store Keeper and Accounts Officer. Other departments in the organization includes skilled and unskilled labour consisting of Masons, Block/Bricklayers, Carpenters, Steel Benders, Mechanics, Machine Operators, Drivers, Electricians, Painters, Plumbers, Security men and Labourers. The Company has in place a training programme that encourages employees to upgrade their skills and add to their personal qualifications and experience and thereby the companys overall success. The diagrams below (fig. 1.0 and tab. 1.0) respectively show the Organizational Structure and Technical and Managerial Staff of the company.

MAJOR CONTRACTS EXECUTED From the onset and up to the present time, several of the projects undertaken by the Company are of high prominence and place higher demands on the innovative capabilities of the Contractor. Generally, some of the projects include; schools, sawmills, high and low tension cable installations, libraries, hostels, laboratories, office complex and rehabilitation of dilapidated buildings. Some projects executed by the Company within the last five (5) years are detailed below in table 1.1

PLANT AND EQUIPMENT HOLDING The Company owns a number of Plant and equipment such as Tipper Trucks, Pickup trucks, Saloon cars, Cranes, Generators, Concrete mixers, Compressors, Poker Vibrators, Hoisting Machines, Earthmoving Equipment, Scaffoldings, Surveying instruments and hand operated tools. The Company acquires other equipment and plant on lease agreement. Table 1.2 below shows the plant and equipment holding capacity of the Company.
