Wilson County Fair promoters Friday an-
nounced John Michael Montgomery will per-
form during the Wilson County Fair.
Montgomery will take the stage Aug. 21 at
8 p.m. Ticket information is available at wil-
soncountyfair.net.
With a musical career that spans 12 albums
and a greatest hits package, Montgomerys
hits include I Swear, Be My Baby Tonight,
I Can Love You Like That, Sold (the
Grundy County Auction Incident) and Lifes
A Dance, among many others. Hes earned
15 No. 1 singles, sold more than 10 million
albums and received numerous industry and
fan-voted awards, three CMA Awards, five
ACM Awards and an American Music Award.
In November 2007, Montgomery launched
his own label, Stringtown Records, taking
on the role of chief executive officer. He re-
leased his 10th studio album, Time Flies, in
2008, which he produced with Byron Galli-
more. The albums first single, If You Ever
Went Away, marked Montgomerys first
return to the airwaves since Letters From
Home, (2004) reached No. 2 on Billboards
Country Singles chart.
Born Jan. 20, 1965, in Danville, Ky., Mont-
gomery arrived on the country music scene
in 1993 with a debut album, Lifes a Dance,
which became the only million-seller on the
country charts by a new artist that year. Its
title track was a No. 4 hit single and was fol-
lowed by his first country No. 1 single, I
Love the Way You Love Me. The follow-
up, Kickin It Up, hit the top spot on both
the country and adult contemporary charts
and produced four more successful singles,
the chart-topping I Swear, Be My Baby
Tonight, If You Got Love and the No. 4
single Rope the Moon.
Montgomery and his older brother, Eddie
Montgomery of Montgomery Gentry, re-
ceived musical encouragement from their
father, who performed in a local country band
and taught his son his first chords. He joined
the family band as guitarist before taking the
lead singing role when his parents divorced.
Afterwards, he made a frugal living on the
local honky-tonk scene as a solo artist play-
ing what he referred to as working mans
country. Eventually, Atlantic Records signed
him, and he became part of the 90s wave of
honky tonk hitmakers.
Ive been singing since I was a kid,
Montgomery said. And Ive been very for-
tunate to have a lot of peaks and valleys
in my career; seeing a lot of changes since
1992. The main thing Ive learned is to just
be myself, to treat people kindly, and if you
give radio a good song, theyll play it. I know
how lucky it is to be successful in this busi-
ness, and Ive always tried to let the fans, the
deejays and the people I work with know how
much I appreciate them.

Wilson County Fair offcials announced
recently the Wilson County Fair Great
Giveaway will make its return to the fair in
August.
Fair goers will have the opportunity to
win $1,000 in six nights during the fair. On
Aug. 20, they will choose between six dif-
ferent prizes for the fourth straight year.
We are very excited about the 2013
offering for the fair, said Keith Harrison,
chairman of the fairs Great Giveaway
committee. Fair goers will have the op-
portunity to choose between a selection of
cars, a tractor and a recreational utility ve-
hicle. Someone is going to drive away with
one of these spectacular choices.
The Great Giveaway lineup includes the
following 2013 models provided by the fol-
lowing local businesses: Chevrolet Malibu
from Wilson County Motors; Dodge Jour-
ney from Rockie Williams Premier Dodge;
Ford Focus from Bates Ford; Hyundai El-
antra from Wilson County Hyundai; John
Deere 5045d tractor and loader from Tri-
Green Equipment; and a John Deere XUV
825i Gator with cab and air from Tri-Green
Equipment.
These local dealerships offer a tasteful
choice with six outstanding vehicle options
for the 2013 Wilson County Fair, said
Harrison.
Sixty-two local businesses sponsored the
annual event.
We are pleased by the number of busi-
nesses continuing to want to be part of the
Great Giveaway, said Harrison. These
organizations want to be part of something
successful, like the fair and the Great Give-
away. Its an opportunity to give back to
the community. We owe a great deal of
gratitude to these sponsors for making this
possible again in 2013.
Tickets are available at the 62 businesses.
The cars, tractor and RTV will be displayed
at these businesses until fair time in Au-
gust. A complete listing of the 62 sponsors
will appear in local newspaper advertising,
on the fair website at wilsoncountyfair.net,
or by calling the Wilson County Fair offce
at 615-443-2626.
Our Great Giveaway committee has
taken the theme of Taste The Fun at the
2013 Wilson County Fair very seriously,
said Hale Moss, president of Wilson
County Promotions, sponsor of the Wilson
County Fair. When one looks over the list
of giveaway sponsors, the amount of cash
to be given away and the six choices for the
Tuesday night Great Giveaway, this com-
mittee has put together another great venue
for fair goers in 2013. We hope that many
folks from Wilson and our surrounding
counties will take part in our fair.
