Internal Auditor (QMS) Course Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001:2008)


This course is designed to provide a basic knowledge and understanding of internally auditing ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems.
Objectives: Explain the process-based quality management system model for ISO 9001 with reference to the Plan, Do, Check, Act cycle Explain the role of internal audit in the maintenance and improvement of quality management systems Explain the role and responsibilities of an auditor to plan, conduct, report and follow up an internal audit, in accordance with ISO 19011 Explain the purpose and business benefits of improving the effectiveness of a quality management system Define an internal quality management system audit Plan, conduct, report and follow up an internal audit and in accordance with ISO 19011 Explain root cause analysis After attending this course, you will be able to: Outline the model of a process-based quality management system and the structure and content of ISO 9001, referring to the PDCA cycle as appropriate Describe (in outline) the relationship between management responsibility, quality policy, quality planning and objectives, resource management, product realization, measurement analysis and improvement, and the significance of these for auditors Describe typical process controls that may be applied in order to achieve customer satisfaction and conformity of product to statutory and regulatory requirements, and the significance of these for auditors Outline the requirements for internal audit, as described in ISO 9001 clause 8.2.2. Explain the terms and definitions used in auditing, with referencing to ISO 19011 and ISO 9001 Define typical objectives for internal audits, including determination of conformance, evaluation of capability, evaluation of effectiveness and identification of potential improvement, and suggest how findings can contribute to the maintenance and improvement of quality management systems Outline the process for performing an audit, from initiation to conducting audit followup Explain the purpose and significance audit objectives, scope and criteria Describe activities including preparing the audit plan, assigning work to the audit team and preparing work documents Outline the process for conducting an audit from opening meeting through to preparing audit conclusions and closing the audit Explain the evidence-based approach to audit and describing in outline the process for collecting and verifying information

Explain how audit findings are determined by evaluating audit evidence against audit criteria Outline different audit methods Explain the purpose and typical content of an internal audit report, corrective action process and audit follow-up activities Describe the role and responsibilities of the auditor and the need for effective communication with the auditee Explain the principle of confidentiality Establish appropriate scope, objectives, criteria, duration and resources for an audit Prepare the necessary work documents, such as an audit checklist, sampling plan and forms. Evaluate audit evidence and generate audit findings appropriate to the audit objectives, scope and criteria.

Course Pre-requisites You will have a basic understanding of ISO 9001:2008 or have attended the Lifewide Internal Auditor (Foundation) Course.
