Im Anitawati A/P Guwindasamy from Unit Pengajian Melayu, PPISMP SEM 2. I learnt many things while undertaking this Project P2211D and I hope to emulate and inculcate these things in myself as I take up my profession as a teacher in future. It is no exaggeration if I say that English is the single subject that has more students failing than passing the tests. Students who earnestly dislike this subject should also bear in mind that English is an important subject of our educational curriculum. I learned that one should not merely learned English for the sake of doing examination but must strive their best to learn English for their benefit in future. While doing this task project I managed to change my thought regarding reading process. Before I started to do this task project I did some research regarding the reason for the immense popularity and the benefits of reading. What is the definition of reading? To be able to read means not only to be able to recognise the letters, symbols and other typographical marks and to be able to interpret them correctly so as to understand the written message. But we all should know that reading is a good habit as it empowers the reader with all kinds of information and facts. Before carrying out this task I was claiming that reading dailies without fail and that was enough reading. Unfortunately that is not true. Reading newspaper daily is a good routine, but the newspapers do not and cannot provide everything. There are many other things besides that one should know. This is where libraries and bookshops come in. Libraries and large bookshops carry thousands of titles on just about every subject on the face of the earth! There are also the places where the latest books on the latest discoveries can be found and not in newspapers. Reading also helps pupils to get through their examination. Additional facts and information can be found in reference books at the school library or the National library. Besides that, I also learned that one should read to develop their mental power. This

reading habit should be cultivated in a young age so that it bears the best fruit. As the future teachers, we must get the students picture books and nursery rhymes to start off this habit. Even in some primary schools, pupils are encouraged to read books and sometimes they are asked to write simple books they have read. After doing this task project I learned that reading is not only to gain knowledge, it can also be a pleasure pastime for anyone.

ARTICLE 2 Smoking By Rohit Agarwal Dated 03 July 2000

Smoking is the term that is generally defined in context of inhaling tobacco when it is burnt. Despite all the warning notices on cigarette boxes and in spite of the fact that health agencies throughout the world have seriously campaigned against smoking and have tried to increase the awareness of the harmful effects of smoking, many people are still puffing away as if it is the most natural thing to do. Let us see the effects of smoking habit. Smoking regularly decreases the life span of an individual by 7-8 years. Furthermore, smoking paves way for the deposition of cholesterol in the arteries that supply blood to the heart. Smoking also may lead to development of various cardiovascular diseases. Besides smokers are also at increased risk of developing high blood pressure which may result in hypertension. Moreover, smoking decreases the function of the kidney which may lead to serious complications that occurs due to accumulation of the waste products in the body. On the other hand, smoking also causes lung cancer. As the disease occurs after due course of time, and leads to a state of helplessness. Short Essay on Smoking Rohit Agarwal

Smoking is the term that is generally defined in context of inhaling tobacco when it is burnt. It is a known fact since long times that smoking is injurious to health. This is even clearly embedded on the commercial packs containing cigarettes etc. But despite the warning there is no reduction in the sales of cigarettes in the society. On the contrary, an up rise in consumption of number of cigarettes has been noticed. Here cigarette smoking is emphasised; the reason being that it is the most common practice of inhaling tobacco smoke in the masses. In a report published in the year 2007 it was stated that about more than 4 million people die due to smoking. This statistics are proof enough to highlight the effects of smoking. Smoking regularly decreases the life span of an individual by 7-8 years. Current health report warns against the surge in premature death of individuals in the industrialised countries. Men are affected more as compared to women only due to the factor that they inhale more smoke as compared to their counter parts. The foremost is that it paves way for the deposition of cholesterol in the arteries that supply blood to the heart. This leads to hampered supply of blood to the heart and results in various severe complications like a heart failure. Smoking may lead to development of various cardiovascular diseases. These diseases are related to heart and the supplying blood vessels. Smoking affects the functioning of heart in various ways. Another common medical condition is the difficulty in breathing which is known as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. It can be defined as a syndrome, i.e. a group of disease. Obstruction in the airflow occurs in this condition which may lead to difficulty in breathing. Respiratory system is weakened due to damaged basic units which are alveoli. This may show up as breathlessness and chronic cough as the presenting symptoms. In some persons it also acts as the predisposing factor for Asthma. Besides smokers are also at increased risk of developing high blood pressure which may result in hypertension. This disease involves various other organs of the body like kidney, liver and eyes. Decrease in the functioning of the kidney may lead to serious complications which occur due to accumulation of the waste products in the body. Similarly, a person affected by hypertension is in turn prone to develop cataracts and other visual problems like macular degeneration. Everyone seems to be aware of the fact that smoking causes lung cancer. But it hardly matters to those who smoke. As the disease occurs after due course of time, it leads to a state of helplessness. By the time the disease is diagnosed it has already done sufficient damage to the lung tissues and other systemic organs of the body. Smoking is more dangerous as it poses an equal threat to the passive smokers. They are the persons who dont smoke actively but inhale it as released by an active smoker. Smoking kills is the phrase enough to define the dangers of smoking.
