Community members discuss membership rights & responsibilities

On Monday July 15, the Renaissance Community Coop held its monthly community meeting at the Presbyterian Church of the Cross on Phillips Avenue. 30 people gathered for an evening of rich and meaningful conversation about the development of our grocery store! During the small group exercises, coop and community members discussed what the rights and responsibilities of coop members will be when the store opens. There was spirited conversation about what coop members need to do to attain full voting rights. Everyone bounced ideas around and offered potential solutions to these important questions. Continued

As the meeting wrapped up, those present expressed the need for the community to begin seeing ourselves as the owners of this dream. This Co-op is OUR baby, said Sadie Blue. We have had a little help nursing it and rocking its cradle but its time that we all step up and help take care of OUR baby. The meeting adjourned with a very energized and optimistic crowd ready to continue the struggle to bring a democratically owned and run grocery store to our community!

HAZELS CITRUS PUNCH 1 cup sugar 1 quart pineapple juice 2 - 6 ounce cans or 1 - 12 ounce can orange juice concentrate with water added (per can instructions) 2 - 6 ounce cans or 1 - 12 ounce can lemonade concentrate with water added (per can instructions) Mix together above ingredients and freeze. Why did you join the coop?

I believe a coop grocery store is the best option to provide quality, healthy food for the community in Northeast Greensboro. I look forward to shopping at the RCC, supporting the coop, and helping build a stronger community in this wonderful section of our town! Maddie Reed, member

What is a Coop? Coop Quiz

Will the RCC only have fruits & vegetables? No way! Our food coop will be a full service grocery store that has meat, produce and dairy departments, canned goods, dry goods, and personal care items. The store will also sell baby supplies, pet food and other goods that are in a conventional grocery store. There are plans for a hot-bar and other prepared foods. As a member, you will have the opportunity to help decide what items the store carries! A coop is an association of people united to meet their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly owned and democratically controlled enterprise. What does that mean for the members and supporters of the Renaissance Community Coop? It means that a group of community members came together after 15 years without a neighborhood grocery store, to bring a community owned and democratically run grocery store to northeast Greensboro. The coop we envision will bring healthy food & good jobs to our community. It will be a vibrant community hub, hosting social gatherings, education and community building events.
