Learning Objectives: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: (a) talk about the flood victims (b) what can be done to help the people in need (c) giving true/false replies upon listening to the news report (d) complete the workbook activity with guidance

Activity 1: Floods In this activity, pupils are shown different pictures of floods around the world. The pupils are to share their personal experiences about floods. They are to focus on the effects of floods on human. Teacher will pre-teach the new words/ vocabularies. Activity 2: News report In this activity, pupils will listen to a recorded broadcast. The pupils are then to talk about what was said in the news and answering the true/false questions in the worksheet. Pupils will then discuss in pairs what they can do to help the people in need. For example, brainstorming what they could donate to the people in need. As for the post-activity, the pupils are to complete the workbook page 75. Resources: Pictures of floods, radio, recorded tape, true/false worksheet, workbook page 75

Day 2/ Lesson 2 2nd July 2013 (Tuesday) Main skill: Reading Integrated Skill: Listening and speaking Content Standard: 2.1 Able to apply knowledge of sounds of letters to recognise words in linear and non-linear texts. Learning Standard: 2.1.2 Able to blend, recognise and articulate initial, medial and the final sounds in single syllable words within the given context: wh and ph Able to blend phonemes into recognisable words and read them aloud. Learning Objectives: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:

(a) blend and segment the phoneme /w/ and /ph/ (b) able to recognise and read words by oral blending and segmenting Activity 1: Bell Game In this activity, the teacher will introduce the phoneme /w/ for wh and /f/ for ph by first partly showing the graphemes on the word cards and then the whole word. The word cards are prepared by the teacher prior to this lesson. The pupils who know the words/ recognise the words first will press the bell and say the word out loud. It is a speed game. It is through this activity that the pupils will practise blending and segmenting the phonemes. Activity 2: List them right This is the follow-up activity that allows pupils to learn the meaning of the words introduced in the Bell Game activity. The pupils are to work in groups to arrange the words under the right category. For example, whale, while, whole under the sound/w/, while words such as graph, phone, photo under the sound /f/. As the closure activity, the pupils will read aloud the short paragraph of the story Whippy and Daphney on textbook page 103. Resources: Graphemes cards, bell, word cards, textbook page 103

Day 3/ Lesson 3 3rd July 2013 (Wednesday) Main skill: Reading Integrated Skill: Writing Content Standard: 2.3 Able to read independently for information and enjoyment Learning Standard: 2.3.1 Able to read simple texts with guidance: fiction.

3.2 Able to write suing appropriate language, form and style for a range of purpose. Learning Objectives: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: (a) read and understand the simple texts (b) complete the worksheet with guidance

3.2.1 Able to complete with guidance: simple messages

Activity 1: For those in need As for the pre-activity, teacher will show the picture of different people in need such as the blind, the poor, the pregnant, the elders such as well as the flood. The teacher will have the pupils to discuss what have been done to help the people based on the pictures shown. Then, the teacher will list down pupils ideas on the board in phrases such as donate money, buy them some food, help them to rebuild their home, etc. The teacher explains meanings of words/ phrases. Moving on the while-activity, the pupils will then read the passage For those in need. Pupils are asked to stand up one by one reading aloud one sentence each. Teacher could correct the pupils if they make mistakes. Then, the pupils read together as a whole class. The reading activity is followed by Q&A session where the teacher will discuss with the pupils on what they think Julia will do. Teacher will draw a mind map on the whiteboard.

Activity 2: What will I do? In this activity, the pupils are asked to complete the workbook page 76. This activity corresponds to the reading text and it would also be a warm-up activity for their writing lesson the next day. During the closure, the teacher will have the pupils to read aloud the short passage of Whippy and Daphney (from the previous lesson). Day 4/ Lesson 4 4th July 2013 (Thursday) Main skill: Writing Integrate skill: Listening and speaking Content Standard: 3.2 Able to write using appropriate language, form and style for a range of a purpose. 1.2 To pronounce confidently with correct stress, rhythm and intonation. Learning Standard: 3.2.2 Able to write simple sentences with guidance

Learning Objectives: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: (a) write simple sentences based on the stimulus and guidance given (b) talk about some of the good deeds with guidance

Activity 1: Picture story This is a shared writing activity where the pupils are given a series of pictures and talk about it with their classmates. The teacher will list their ideas on the board. The pupils will make sentences based on the pictures and the ideas that were discussed earlier. Activity 2: Dice it In this activity, pupils will work in pairs to construct 5 sentences. The pupils will start the sentences with I will.. Each pupil will roll the dice and move their token along the board game. When a token lands in a phrase box, the pupil construct a sentence beginning with I will followed by

the phrase in the box. The pupil will write down the sentences in their exercise book. As homework, pupils will complete their workbook page 80, What Pat plans to do. Resources: Pictures of people helping those in need, English textbooks, token, dice

Day 5/ Lesson 5 5th July 2013 (Friday) Main skill: Language Arts Integrate skill: Listening and speaking Content Standard: 4.3 Able to plan, organize and produce creative works for enjoyment Learning Standard: 4.3.1 Able to produce simple creative works with guidance based on (c) stories

1.3 Able to understand and respond to oral texts in a variety of contexts.

1.3.1 Able to listen to and demonstrate understanding of oral texts by: (a) answering simple Wh-Questions.

Learning Objectives: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: (a) answer simple Wh-questions (b) create a helping hand with guidance

Activity 1: Grandmas scarf In this activity, the pupils will listen and enjoy a story about Grandmas scarf. Teacher will ask different questions to constantly check pupils understanding at the same time provoking higher order thinking skills among the young pupils. The pupils will be given a set of pictures cards, which they would have to arrange them in the correct sequence.

Activity 2: Helping hands In this activity, the pupils would have to trace their hands on the A4 paper and decorate the hands. Pupils would also write down some of the things they could use their hands to help others. The big question would be What can my hands do to help others? As for the closure activity, the pupils will sing a song about helping others. Resources: Short story on Grandmas scarf, picture cards, A4 papers, a song entitled We are one family
