UNCW Communication Studies Society

Mission
The purpose of the UNCW Communication Studies Society is to prepare members for a clear understanding of the communication field and to provide networking opportunities with peers and professionals in communication related fields.

Dues and Points

Its the start of a new school year, which means its time to pay dues! Dues help us pay for refreshments for meetings, service projects and events (like the fashion show and Project Protg), and fund our CSS Achievement Award. The deadline to pay dues is Sept. 30. Dues are $20, unless you were an active member in Spring 2013. In order to become active, you simply need to earn 10 points in one semester. Earn points by attending meetings, participating in service projects, or bringing food to meetings. Active members pay half the membership fee, and get priority status for Project Protg. To join CSS, print out a Member Info Sheet on the website (its under Club Info), and bring your dues to a meeting or to Leutze Hall 238. If you have questions, contact Kaitlin at keb2051@uncw.edu.

Rock for the Cure

Save the Date: The 7th Annual Rock for the Cure breast cancer benefit will be held on Fri., Oct. 18 at 7:00 pm at the Reel Caf in downtown Wilmington. UNCWs unofficial faculty rock band, The Schoolboys will perform, and proceeds from the event benefit the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundations Pink Ribbon Project. CSS has raised more than $22,000 since the events inception. If your organization is interested in being an event sponsor, contact Cortney Aherron at cra3900@uncw.edu or check out our website. If your organization would like to donate an item to our raffle or auction, contact Ms. Chin at chinj@uncw.edu. Opportunities to volunteer at the event will be announced soon, and t-shirt presales will begin later in September. Keep checking our website and meeting minutes for details.

Need Points?
Earning points is easy. Earn a point by coming to meetings. One meeting = one point. If you like to eat (and who doesnt?), you can contact Vice President Karina Villalobos at kv8801@uncw.edu and ask her what kinds of things we need brought to the next meeting. She can even coordinate with you to get the items in advance if you cant attend the meetings. If food isnt your thing, you can help Secretary Meghan Blair obtain prizes for our meeting raffles. If you work someplace that offers gift cards, tshirts, or other cool giveaways, talk to Meghan at mhb2054@uncw.edu. We will also have opportunities for you to participate in service projects later this semester.

onsite? What kinds of socials would you be interested in attending? If you have any ideas or feedback, feel free to contact any of the board members via email or stop by Ms. Chins office hours for a quick chat.
