Mission
Naval task force main High value unit escort Submarine sea denial Area air defence Deep strike capability National or allied command
FREMM family is the right ship to address all military or asymmetric threats and be part or assume command of any naval task group (national or allied). With 11 units already ordered by the French Navy, and already one more ordered for export, this major programme is led by DCNS as prime contractor.
key points
Power from the sea
Aquitaine-class features: l and attack missiles a nti-air missiles a nti-ship missiles a rtillery up to 127 mm lightweight torpedoes 1 0t-class helicopter(s) UAVs R HIBS for special forces
Drawing on its expertise in warships with low radar, acoustic, magnetic and infrared signatures, DCNS has designed the stealthiest new-generation frigate. Examples: c ooled exhausts for limited IR signature e lectric propulsion during ASW operations for reduced acoustic signature R CS reduction features
The CODLOG-powered electric propulsion system is ideal for ultra-quiet submarine hunting. As a countermeasure against magnetic mines and torpedoes, the degaussing system constantly compensates for hull magnetisation as the ship moves through the earths magnetic field; all hull openings (portholes, scuppers, etc.) are concealed to ensure maximum protection against radar-guided enemy missiles.
SETIS combat system is fully integrated for multimission operations and immediate reconfiguration, and is also multilink capable. SETIS is based on COTS hardware and IP protocols facilitating maintenance and upgrades.
SETIS is fitted with the last-generation multifunction radar providing the best performances such as detection range.

key points
High-level automation Addressing todays navies requirements, FREMM frigate answers to 21st century challenges: r educed life-cycle cost d esign flexibility a daptability for unmanned
vehicles and equipment evolution
FREMM benefits from the latest developments in platform management and combat system automation. DCNS experience and expertise in these areas have resulted in an optimised complement.
Thanks to DCNS position as the main French Navys in-service support contractor, operational feedback has been taken into account in the conception and design of new generation warships. Unprecedented availability has been gained through: a selection of sea-proven equipment such as power generators maintenance clearance checked during detailed design of sub-parts equipment removal routes optimisation on-condition monitoring Thus resulting in reduced upkeep periods and more time between major maintenance operations.
