4. Do you receive any subsidies from the state? Do students from your
institutions receive scholarships or grants for studying from the Government?

1
- The students of the FON University are on par with the students from the
public universities and they receive scholarships if their GPA is above 8.5.
Our university also offers a program for funding the studies of the best
student with 10.00 GPA, and for a year now we have been giving 50 full
scholarships for the best High School graduates and they are guaranteed
a job at one of the best 50 companies in Macedonia. This is conducted
under the motto “It is also possible in Macedonia”. The selection criteria
are High School GPA, awards and certificates (for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place)
acquired in state competitions in individual disciplines and through tests
which are organized in our premises. At the end, each Faculty forms a
commission and these commissions decide who will be offered

- The responsibility for quality lies at the hands of the Faculties and the Deans

the function of the university, the responsibility is with the Rector.

institution will be fully accredited?

- Within the University we have 8 faculties which are fully accredited and
function within the planned activities.

7. What do you think about the accreditation process and the work of the
Accreditation Board in general?

- The process of accreditation in Macedonia is strictly regulated by law and

foresees fulfillment of specific and high criteria in order for a specific higher
education institution to function. However, we must admit that there has
been an initial erosion of the criteria in higher education, and as a
consequence there has been an appearance of a large number of institutions.
Fortunately, FON University has overcome the initial weaknesses and has
established itself as one of the three most higher education institutions with
highest quality in Macedonia.

8. What is the mission of your institution?

- The primary goal of our institution is to reach its maximum in quality higher
education which will create quality graduates. Our principle for achieving
these goals is based on theoretical-practical studies. This is a reaction to the
long-term deficiency of this aspect in our higher education.

9. What is the societal role of your higher education institution?

- Our educational institution as any other in the world is created for the
purpose of raising the education level of the country’s population primarily
for our country but also for the region, too. It is widely accepted that the
higher the level of education of the population in a country the more
prosperous, advanced it is and so is the quality of life in it. The higher quality
of life, the better and higher are the social rights of the people. This leads to
the conclusion that the education directly influences the social qualities of the
country.

10.What is the role of your higher education institution in the economy of your
country and in the overall higher education system of your country?

- The role in the economy is enormous, because with graduates from our
institution, their knowledge and experience we directly incorporate ourselves
in the economic system of the country. A specific example for that is the
internship that our students do in different companies and ministries, and
majority of them remain there as full-time employees after graduation. In
terms of the higher education system, our institution is equal to all higher
education institutions, state and private. Although the state universities have
a long-standing tradition, our university is equal on quality and academic and
scientific staff.
