Western Mesquite Mines Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Newgold and the operator of the Mesquite Mine located approximately 35 miles east of Brawley, California. The Mesquite mine is an open-pit gold mining operation lying on the western flanks of the Chocolate Mountains in the southern California desert. The mine is expected to move approximately 60 million tons of material in 2008 and produce approximately 140 thousand ounces of gold from several open pit deposits and has a projected mine life over 10 years.

Position Overview:
The Mesquite mine is seeking an Ore Control Geologist to join the Mine Geology Group which is part of the Mine Technical Services Department. The position will report to the Chief Geologist and will provide ore control and production related geological expertise to the Mine Operations Department.

Principal Duties:
Supervision and technical input into the blasthole sampling and assay process. Providing daily ore control requirements including o Blasthole geological mapping o Monitoring and coordination of the blasthole assay data with the analytical lab. o Coordination of survey inputs for known blasthole sampling locations o Development of ore/waste dig-lines boundaries

Coordination and assistance with field staking of ore/waste dig line boundaries Coordination of mining activity with Mine Operations

Maintenance of the integrity of the blasthole information database including blasthole assay data, survey data, ore control dig lines, ore solids and waste solids. Maintenance and communication of broken material inventories for planning purposes. Development of blasthole geostatistical parameters for implementation of blasthole kriging methodology for determining optimal ore/waste boundaries. Calculation of mined vs. model predicted material quantities. Adhering to and promoting the companies environmental, health, and safety policies as well as general mine operating procedures. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
B.A. or B.Sc. degree in Geology or Geological Engineering with 0-3 years of mining or exploration related geological experience. New graduates are encouraged to apply. Ability to coordinate and lead the ore control functions in fulfilling the requirements of the Mine Technical Services Department and the Mine Operations Department. General understanding of grade estimation methodologies including geostatistical methods and the ability to apply those methods. Exposure to and experience with modern global positioning system (GPS) surveying equipment. Experience with Vulcan or other mine planning software, computer aided design software (CAD) such as Autocad. In addition, a good working knowledge of the Microsoft office suite of software (Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook). Ability to work in an outdoor setting often in difficult, extremely hot conditions. The position requires walking large distances and in remote, uneven terrain and in close proximity to large mobile equipment. A high level of personal motivation and commitment to achieving the mines environmental, health, safety, and production goals. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
