POPULATION SERVED: Low to moderate income Vietnamese and Slavic refugees in the
Sacramento area.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: (Services they will provide.)

The Bach Viet Association has a long history of helping Slavic and Vietnamese refugees adapt to
culture in the United States. They offer services such as outreach and referral, job placement,
vocational training, ESL classes, citizenship assistance, translation services, social services, and
interpretation. They also have a strong partnership with the Sacramento area One-Stop.

The Bach Viet Association will partner with the Lemon Hill One-Stop Center to serve
Vietnamese and Slavic clients in the Florin and South Parkway areas of the city. BVA will
supply a worker at the One-Stop during the week to provide referrals, outreach, and translation
services. The Bach Viet Association will become a One-Stop Access Point for the Lemon Hill
Center. This means it will be open during the weekend and afternoon hours in which clients are
most likely to visit. A resource room will be dedicated to helping job seekers search for
employment and post resumes. Volunteers will be on hand to help job seekers in their search
which would include resume and interview preparation among other things. Others will be
referred to a training program at the Lemon Hill Center for more intensive career services. Upon
being referred to Lemon Hill or receiving employment, BVA will provide on-going bicultural
support to ensure job seekers successfully achieve their goals.

GOALS: (How many people served, placed in jobs or education, retained, etc.)
BVA has four main objectives to accomplish: 1) Increase community awareness and access to
the Lemon Hill One-Stop, 2) Increase One-Stop’s language and cultural capacity to serve limited
English proficiency community members, 3) Increase the ability of the local workforce
investment board to better meet future needs of the community, and 4) Increase their partners
ability to sustain the project. If these goals are met, Bach Viet expects to serve 100 Slavic and
Vietnamese clients. Through their own programs and those offered at the Lemon Hill One-Stop,
85% will enter training and 75% will enter employment following that training. They expect
65% of clients to remain employed for at least 90 days.
