Introduction:

Internet technology importance is growing everyday in the businesses and lives. The internet and technology adoption is essential to almost every company because it is part in the businesses, it helps to give competion for the companies and it helps to give quality customer service and transperancy in the services. There are companies such as amazon, e-bay and others which are running based on internet , the internet helps to check e-mail , website sophistication, marketing support, marketing intelligence and other services ( Fahri Karakaya and Omar Khalil, 2004). It is a major part in the people lives, for example, with over 60% of Americans are having internet and more than 40% of Americans having been online for more than three years, the internet has become a mainstream information tool ( Matt Hames, 2008). Therefore, the overall benefits of information technology are increase the efficiency, decrease the errors and improve the performance of all services. It is makes communicational and business activities easy and alos it saves time and money in order to providing good service to the customers or clients ( Julie Li, 2010). As we discussed above, the information technology is making lives and services easy, especially whe we look at the businesses or organisations, the internet and its services impact is high , moreover it is essential to run their activtieis , even they cant image without internet technology. Let me forward to discover the socio-technical impact of internet on organisations. Socio-technial approach: Socio-technical approahces are becoming more essential in contemporary business envionement . There are many strong reasons beyond this revolution such as building relationships within organisaiton between employees and management, to increase the turnover, to increase the performance , to improve the customer relationships, to create competitive advantage, to creae core compencies and to increase the revenue in order to increase the market share of the company. To achieve these outcomes, company must focus on socio-technical approahces which would bring huge difference in the company performance. implications. Socio-technical systems: In the perspective of socio-technical system, In this mean the technology covers both machines and the associated work organisation , the social system covers providing a high quality and satisfying work environenment for employees. These needs contains communication needs, housing needs, recreation, approaches ( Enid Mumford,, 2006). 4 unleashing and other relationship Here, I am going to describe what is the socio-technical concept and its

To implement technical systems effectively, organisations should emphasise on employee social needs which helps to motivate them in order to increase the individual performancce and ovellall organisaiton performance. Although, to fullfil the social needs of employees such as communciation needs, transportation needs and other needs , there is need of technical systems such as machinary, techincal staff, equipments and others. Thus, these both are interdependent elelements and these are most important to bring revolution in the organisations in terms of high productivity, coordination, relationships and quality service. The following diagram shows the framework of socio-technical systems aproach.

Figure 1: Socio-technical Systems Source: managementhelp.org

The above diagram shows the soio-techncial activties in the organisaition and its participation from input systems to output systems. As diagram explains, needs fulfill by technical systems. Socio-technical impact of Internet on Organisations: The internet usage is a part to be a competitive in the market , when companies are focusing on higher priority to the customer service ,then the ineternet technology helps to meet the customer requirements. As part of the company strategy, the internet technology place at central to proven principles of effective strategy in order to help in creating competitiv advantage. In the organisaitons, the internet usage is for different purposes , those are including e-mail checking, communication within organisation and for external communications that includes suppliers, customers and clients ( Michael E. Porter, 2001). It is a key tool in the organisation for better communication and better customer service through business process outsourcing channels. By using business process outsourcing approach, companies are outsourcing their services to other companies to provide better service to the customers through live chatting, online communication and other channel of communciations. All these sort of services are based on the internet technology and its services. There are some industries which are completey running based on internet , those are e-busiensses, online education, travel industry, hotel industry and others. These industries are running based on the internet , they are making revenue by using internet services The social systems impact of Internet: In the organisations, socio-technical the organisation contains people and technologies, where technologies run by people and people social

systems and internet are important tools in the organisaiton to improve the efficiency and coordination in the organisation. As explained earlier, if company satisfies the employees by meeting their social needs then technical system implementation process and the performance levels will be high, moreover the quality and customer service levels alos will be higher. To fill these needs there is need of internet and services, let explain the connection between social systems and internet. As we know that, communicaitonal needs meets by internet technology. Fo example, the communcational needs are fulfilled by internet technology such as e-mail communication and by giving latitute to the employees to use social websites to get relax and using the internet to communicate with familiy , friends, colleagues and others. These are the motivational factors which influences the employees and thse factorw will result in the productivity and performance.

The technical impact of internet : The enterprise systems software

The technologoy which inlcudes machines, packages are done by with programming

material, tools and other equipments are also connected to internet. For example, languages with efficient technical people, whent it comes to apply into the organisaiton, the data requires from various departments to integrate the information in order to maintian the data and improve the decision making, while transfering data there is need of internet network and its services to maintain the intranet services. So, there is a huge need of internet , intranet and extranet in the organisation to keep implementing the technical systems in order to build potential relationships within organisation.

Honda Motors Company: I choose Honda Motors as a company to achieve the outome of this module, Honda is one of the worlds largest automobile manufacturing company . Honda believe in the power of dreams as the way of thinking that guides and pushed the company forward, the company see the world in eyes of dreamers , they always put high efforts to make those dreams true by empowering force, capable of producing revolutionary ideas and innovative products . The Honda Motors always give preference to look the company in the global perspective by making quality products at reasonable prices in order bag customer satisfaction and sustainability. As part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), they feel responsibility abou the society and they have global commitments in helping and protecting environement and helping local communities in order to enhance safety society ( corporate.honda.com). In the view of Honda company strategy, they mainly emphasised on quality products with good service at reasonable prices, as a social responsbile company they focus on global onvrionmental protection and safety and innovation which they believe mostly and which they implement their new products and new concepts with their well structured Research and Development ( R&D) activities. Honda Motors focus on Strategic venturuing process wich is part of R&D and they invest the huge capital on it to explore the innovation and technology in order to create competitive advantage for their products. Honda Motors strategic venturing mission is to identify venture companies with technology of interest to Honda R &D. Socio-technical impact of Internet on Honda Motors:

As I discovered

the Honda company strategies, technology and Innovation,

corporate goverance and corporate social responsibility, they are giving higher priority to the socio-technical systems implementation which considered as most important tool and method to achieve the organisation objectives towards achieving coordination and relationships within organisation. In the innovation and technology perspective of the organisation, Honda Motors concentrates on technology and innovaiton where it is more significant to compete the market. and performance. To achieve the organisational objectives towards technological development, human resource plays vital role to meet the standards ,quality Therefore, company should need to focus on human resouces by motivating the employees. The motivation can be indifferent approaches, it could be as incentives, rewards, awards, promotions, salary hikes, recognition, social facilities and other elements. Let me explain how socio-technial systems are connected to Honda Motors as follows; Technology and People: The technology and people are connected to each other other where both are key drivers in the organisation to meet the customer requirements and to meet the objectives. In the perspective of Honda strategy and the vision, they are giving primary importance to the technology which is key success factor to the company and it is part their strategy. When company gives best technology with unique features , that company can easily attract the customers and give tough competion to the existed companies as well substitutes. As we understand towards company strategy, the technolgy drives by people, so when company wants to implement the technology successfully then they must create the good working environment in the organisation. The good working environemnt and good facilites will build the company in terms of quality, sustainability, relationships, motivation and turnover (Ian Sommerville, 2004). Legacy systems and Innovation: In the Honda company, the innovation is their primary drive to keep their sustainability in the market share and growth rate. When company applies the innovation they replace the innovation into legacy systems. The components of legacy systems are including business processes, business policeis and rules, application data, application software, supportin softwre and hardware. When the new systems such as ERP, SCM , CRM and other software packages are implementing in the company, they should have to technical staff and other human resources. Hence, the socio-technical system revolution will make differences in the productivity, quality, performance and also internal communication.

These factors influences the organisation to implement the socio-technical systems in the organisation. In this casse, to implement the technical systems we should need supporting activities such as human resources, procurement, technology support and others to craeate value to the products. Thefore, let us discuss about value chain analysis which specifies the supporting and primiray activites to create the value. The value chain analysis was developed by Michael E. Porter in the year of 1985 that helps to create a value for the product.

Figure 2: Porters Value Chian Source: Somendra Pant and Cheng , (Hsu www.ra.ethz.ch). In the process of creating value to the customers, and supporting activities . Primary activites : These are inlcuding inbound logisticis, operations, outbound logistics, marketing and sales and service. These activites plays key role in creating value to the product, companies should put their efforts to process the products with quality , at the same time they should foucs on cost management, accuracy , speed and turnover. Support activities: As we mentioned above, the cost management, speed, quality and turnover are the key elements in creating value to the customers. These there are two types of primary

activites acccording to value chain analysis framework , those arecalled as primary activities

activities are includig human resoures, procurement, technological development and infrastrcutre. Analysis: In the business process and to create for the product , to reduce the costs and improve the service speed , then the internet technology plays important role. For example, when company communite with suppliers then it makes easy , inexpsive and reliable connection to suppliers, In the operations, the internet makes quicker to connect with customers and employees through the web. In the marketing and sales process, the internet helps to reduce the costs and creates connections with customers and distributors, these services includes news papare advertising, projections and improvements. In the supporting activities, internet place as siginificant tool to run the activites and internal communication effectively. potentail organisation relationships. Almost all departments are needed intranet connectivity to deliver and receive the data from each others that creates and build In each and every perspecrtive, the internet involvement is existed and it becomes as essential component to create competitive advantage , to provide speed and quality service and to improve the overall efficiency of the organisation ( Somendra Pant and Cheng Hsu) . Research and its methods on socio-technical impact of internet on Honda company: To carry out the research on socio-technical impact of internet on Honda Motors, there is a huge importance to understand the social needs of employees in the organisation to improve the technical systesm implementation. In this research, we have to carry the research methods, approaches, data collection technques and data analysis. Let me explian the research and its approaches in detail to achieve the outcome of the research. Objective of the research: The objective of the research is to explore the socio-technical impact of intenet on Honda Motors . Hypothesis and questions: Hypothesis means which is goint to be tested in the research to meet the outcome. In this research, we will have to test the social systems and technical systesm which are existed in the organisation. In the social systems, the needs of employees, working environements, communicaiton and transporation facilities and other motivational factors. In technical systems, we should identify the existed machinary, business processing, operations, technology 10 Television, Online, websites and other electronic tools. Thus, the internet influeces the marketing and sales

processing and others tools and equipements. So , in this research , the employees are the key source to understand the situations and required changes. On this basis the research questions will be designed to meet the outcome. Qualitative and Quantitatve data: Qualitative research is based on the natural science, the data gather from the existed reports, attitues, behaviours and relevant sources . The quanititative data consists the numbers and this kind of data mostly collects from the market and its a new data ( Thomas Tan Tsu Wee, 2001). The following diagram shows the difference betweent these two data approaces;

Figure 3: Qualitative and Quantitative Source: Thomas Tan Tsu Wee. (2001) In Honda Motors research, we have to explore and improre the socio-technical impact of internet on organisation. In this method, the qualititave and quantitatve research methods are applicable to collect the data from the company. Research approach: There are two types of research approaches , those are;

Deductive reearch approach and Inductive research approach. The deductive resonin works from more general to more specific that is why it is known as top-down approach, the concusions follows logically from premises. It starts from conformation. designing theory, then hypothesis , observation and finally

11

The Inductive approach reasong works from specific observation to broader generalisations and theories ,that is why it is known as bottom-up appraoch. It starts from observation, pattern, tentative hypothesis and thery (Dr. Aqil Burney, S.M, 2008).

Data collection process: In the data collection process, there are two types of data collection technqiues, One is primary data and Second one is Secondary data.

The primary data contains the new data and information which will collect freshly from the market or company.

The Secondary data contains the information and data which already exists such as financial reports, employee data, administrative reports and other published data. In our research process, we collect the primary data which will collect from the employees and mangers in the company. There are various data collection techniques which are applicable and can be used in this research. Those technqiues are , Questionnaire, Interviews, Surveys, focus groups and other observations. The specified data collection techniques more precious to the research to meet the objective and hypothesis of the research.

Data analysis:

After using differnet methodology for collecting data from the Honda company , the

employees, management and observational activiteis of

analysis will be processed based on the potential data collection tools. The data analysis will support to improve the socio-technical impact of internet on Honda Motors, it will result in strong decisiion making, reducing errors, increasing the productivity and the organisation efficiency.

Conclusions: In the Research in Information Technology module, we have understood the impact of socio-technical systems of internet on organisaiton with various examples, live scenarious and others. In the overall perspective of the research, socio-technical systems and its implementation has got huge importance to develop the coordination, improve the organisation decision making, build relationships within organisation and implement the systems effectively in order to achieve the organisation objectives. As we understands, the Honda Motors needs to put more efforts to implement socio-technical systems effectively, because they are completely focusing on advanced technology, innovation and 12

differentiation. That means the internet , intranet and extranet activities are compulsory in the organisation to run the operations and to keep maintaining relationships within organisation. This research methods, technques and analysis will help to the company to understand their communication gap and to understand the importance of socio-technical relations in order to modify and implement their approaches towards satisfying employees, customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.
