Explain with diagrams a minimal closed loop control system of a current - fed (6) inverter system and its performance characteristics Describe with a diagram the open loop volts/Hz control of an induction motor (6) (OR) Explain with diagrams a minimal closed loop control system of a Voltage - fed (6) inverter system and its performance characteristics Explain the constant slip speed for induction motor drives. (6) A star connected squirrel cage induction motor has the following ratings and (12) parameters: 400V, 50Hz, 4-Pole, 1370rpm, Rs =2, Rr = 3 , Xs = Xr = 3.5, Xm = 55 It is controlled by a current source inverter at a constant flux. Calculate i. Motor torque, speed and stator current when operating at 30Hz and rated slip speed. ii. Inverter frequency and stator current for rated motor torque and motor speed of 1200rpm. Assuming motor speed torque cures to be parallel straight lines in the region of interest. Calculate motor speed when operating at iii. 30Hz and half the rated motor torque. iv. 45Hz and braking torque equal to rated motor torque. (OR) A 3 phase, star connected, 60Hz, 4 pole induction motor has the following (12) parameters for its equivalent circuit. Rs = Rr = 0.024 and Xs = Xr = 0.12. The motor is controlled by the variable frequency control with a constant (v/f) ratio. For an operating frequency of 12 Hz, calculate: i. The breakdown torque as a ratio of its value at the rated frequency for both motoring and braking. ii. The starting torque and rotor current in terms of their values at the rated frequency. Explain in detail with suitable diagrams and waveforms the (v/f) control (12) applied to induction motor drives (OR) Using a diagram and torque speed curve, explain the stator voltage control (6) scheme for the speed control of a three phase induction motor Explain how voltage and frequency are varied in voltage source inverter fed (6) induction motor drives
