To sum up the next 10 days will be pretty much what is seen over the next 3-4. Monsoonal moisture streams northward over the West, swings eastward to the north of the KS/MO ridge and into the Great Lakes, Eastern Corn Belt and Northeast with deep easterly flow across the Gulf Coast into S Texas. Abnormally dry and warm to hot conditions will continue outside these areas burning up a large portion of the nations corn and bean crops over the next 910 days.

Moisture and storms surround a strong Midwest ridge, now parked for a while in E Kansas. Near the ridge, temperatures will average 12-20 degrees F above normal exceeding 95 + F days for 5-7+ days from SD to TX eastward to IL, KY and W TN.

Labor Day A week from today, temperatures remain in the 90s from NE to FL, but are a more pleasant 7585F from the N Plains to the Great Lakes and also the Eastern Corn Belt.

WED-FRI The next Corn Belt rains will be locally heavy and severe mid and later this week from in northwesterly flow east and north of the ridge from MN and E IA into IL, IN and OH. Despite the ridge remaining over KS/MO locally heavy downpours are possible in limited areas still leaving a bean crop to whither in abnormal August dryness. Some areas have seen less than 0.25 inches so far this month (right) with little additional expected

Despite much of the Corn Belt remaining abnormally dry for the rest of the month, the near term ring of fire pattern favors northern and eastern moisture with additional heavy rains from ND to PA (note 30 day below normal precipitation ND to PA). Intensified drying will continue close to the ridge in NE, KS, OK, IA, IL, IN, MO and AR.

The past 7 days were very dry in most of SD, ND, MN, IA, KS, MO, IL, MI, PA and NY. Frontal rains were heavy in NE, N IA, N IL and parts of OH. Last nights rains were quite heavy in N WI.

Tropical moisture is streaming northward out of the desert SW taking the turn eastward on the north side of the KS ridge across the N Plains and Great Lakes and then dropping southeastward into the Northeast and Atlantic Coast. Near the ridge over KS, skies are clear. Easterlies dominate south of the ridge, bringing the moisture westward into the Western Gulf of Mexico and S Texas. Rains this week will be heaviest west, north, east and south of the ridge...in the desert Southwest , N Plains, Upper Great Lakes, East Coast and Gulf Coast region, including S Texas. Right now, little significant change to this pattern is expected for the next 9-10 days!
