PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The program pairs full-time or intensive English study with unpaid volunteering in an American NonProfit or Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). This model of enriched education combines English language studies with volunteer experience in an industry that matches your skills and interests. In the Volunteer Experience Program, you will volunteer with some of the most socially-forward, dynamic and innovative American NGOs, putting your language skills to work to support important causes like environmental conservation, community service and animal protection.

PROGRAM LENGTH
Minimum 8 weeks: Minimum 4 weeks study* followed by  Minimum 4 weeks combined study + volunteer experience *It takes ILSC 4 weeks to secure the volunteer placement

PROGRAM SCHEDULE
AS A VISITOR/ ON A TOURIST VISA: AS A STUDENT/ ON AN F1 VISA: 20 lessons/week + 8 to 20 volunteer hours per week, in the afternoon 28 lessons/week + 4 to 12 volunteer hours per week, in the late afternoon

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
PRE-ARRIVAL Submit the general ILSCSan Francisco application, Volunteer Experience Program application, a letter of intent/presentation, and take the PROLA STUDY Take Business English, or equivalent 1st week: Attend an orientation meeting  2nd week: Attend one-on-one meeting with your coordinator. Look at language level and pace of progress, discuss your interests, and review your letter of intent  2 weeks before placement: Learn about the NGO, your responsibilities, professionalism, expectations, dress code, schedule, contract, and how to submit weekly reports* PROGRAM COMPLETION Attend a final meeting for an in person evaluation and will receive your certificate of completion noting your total volunteer hours and the name of NGO where you volunteered.
*You must reach ILSC Intermediate level 2 before beginning your Volunteer Experience placement

2013 FEES
Registration Fee: $100 Material Fee:  312 weeks of study: $60 13+ weeks of study: $120 Tuition: F  ull-Time or Full-Time Intensive Tuition fees + Volunteer placement fee: $825

VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE  First day: Your coordinator will accompany you to the volunteer placement Every week: Submit your weekly online report Every 4 weeks: Meet with your coordinator  Throughout the volunteer experience: Practice your language skills with locals and do meaningful volunteer workmake a difference to a cause thats important to you!

Telegraph Hill Neighborhood Center was a great place. They were organized and kind and helped us work together and with the children on games and sports on their indoor field. I loved the time we had with the children. We could share stories with them about our families and it was so nice to practice my English with them.
