Entry strategies for water treatment players into oil and gas markets
With energy demand on the rise, more and more oil and gas companies are pursuing unconventional production through the application of enhanced recovery methods. Nearly all unconventional and enhanced recovery methods involve the use of significant amounts of water and, therefore, the specific technical and management challenges related to water. This has significant implications for water treatment and calls for a new way of doing business. The energy sector now needs to access the best that the water treatment industry has to offer. Likewise, the water treatment industry has to appreciate the complexity of water challenges in the oil and gas industry and identify which water technologies make the most sense for the problems involved. How can water companies find their way in to the oil and gas market? Led by Dr. John Walsh of GHD Pty. Ltd. and GWIs Water Desalination Report Editor Tom Pankratz, our half day seminar will weigh up the opportunities in the oil and gas industries and identify entry strategies for water treatment specialists.

Our Water Treatment seminar will:

Identify the relevant water technology opportunities in the oil and gas markets Deliver insights on how to structure partnerships with larger firms Review the fundamentals of making a technology pitch and explain what the oil and gas majors will expect in their vetting process Examine how you can make the most out of your pilot study and the crucial importance of the external validation of results

Water technology topics will include:

Produced water treatment for low salinity water applications Treating frac water for re-use Low energy desalination On site real time testing Membrane deoxygenation

Business Insight Seminar leaders:

John Walsh is SPE Technical Director for Projects, Facilities, and Construction. He has recently joined GHD as a Principal Engineer in the companys Oil & Gas Service Group. Prior to joining GHD, Dr Walsh was Shells global water treatment specialist where he provided operational support to Shells global assets in produced water treatment, sulphate removal and water flooding applications. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of SPE and is based in Brisbane, Australia. Tom Pankratz is an independent desalination consultant and editor of GWIs weekly Water Desalination Report. He now serves on the International Desalination Association board of directors, the Middle East Desalination Research Centers advisory council, the WHO desalination technology committee, and the AWWA Desalting Committee.
