What is global warming?

Global warming is the rise in the average

temperature of Earth's atmosphere and oceans.

Global warming is mainly caused by greenhouse

effect.
Earth's mean surface temperature has increased by

about 0.8 C over the past century, which is an alarming issue.

KARTHIK KUMAR K R

What causes global warming?

Green house effect: Earth gets energy from sun. After reflecting, it cannot cross the atmosphere heat

remains which maintains the temperature. This is similar to the warming of car interior because of sunlight when the windows are up. This effect maintains the weather and climate of earth.
Then where is the issue? The issue lies in the human activities which add up to

this heat which creates the abnormalities.

KARTHIK KUMAR K R

Causes...
The human activities which cause global warming are: Release of excess of CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) in to the

atmosphere by burning of fossil fuels Release of CFC (ChloroFluoroCarbon) from electronic appliances Release of Methane (CH4) from nitrogen based fertilizers Deforestation lesser trees, more CO2 in the atmosphere

Effects of global warming

The adverse effect: Melting of glaciers increase in sea level. Change in climate. Extinction of species. Reduction in drinking water level. Increased health issues Asthma, Skin cancer etc.

What is being done to mitigate global warming?

Global warming is a problem of the world which has

to be tackled by all. The steps taken globally are: Establishment of emission standards for vehicles
Euro I to IV BS 1 to 4

Encourage the use of electric vehicles. Banned the use of CFCs in Electronic appliances. Encouragement to harness reusable energy Solar power Wind power

What can WE do to mitigate global warming?

Turn off your computer or the TV when youre not using

it Walk more use vehicles less. Use more of energy efficient products. Use solar water heater instead of electrical water heater Design the room well airy and bright to avoid use of artificial lights and cooling system Turn off the lights when you leave a room. Use compact fluorescent bulbs. Maintain ACs and refrigerators. Plant tree.
